Only the biggest of the big artists make real money from streaming. All their earnings go to managers and promoters and everyone else involved in getting their name out there. Tickets are too expensive because of the promoters and venues while consumers are pinching pennies in an increasingly volatile economy. Going viral with a grassroots campaign is far more lucrative than launching a tour that won't sell (The Black Keys and so many others have folded tours this year!) Sure, the industry isn't what it used to be, but an artist driving traffic and profits directly to them is not the problem. The man got people in his stores and ordering online directly from his label. Jack hit with a stroke of genius with the release of "No Name." When he tours, he will have sell-out shows like he always does. I won't be there because the last JW concert I went to was an absolute nightmare and I'd rather listen in comfort from home than be harassed and shoved by a-hole bros who want to lick his sweat. I know it’s good for an artist to explore new way to express themselves but I’m so glad he’s returned to making some great rocknroll. Every band and album he’s made before the last couple albums were magic.
I have been a fan from the beginning with the White Stripes, and I frickin love his country and blue grass stuff. I am too hyped and happy for him to go back to his roots. Thank you Jack for making this out there for your fans to hear it.
