When a new set drops, I craft four of the useful commons, and uncommons first, then when I open packs, and get to three of a copy of a card, then I craft the fourth. This helps me fill the vault in a more efficient way. I don't draft, just buy packs, and I have a good colection of cards. Thank you.
Thanks for this comment lmao, ironically I came to this epiphany quickly on in this video, without anyone explaining it to me. Seems like a no brainer! (Good advice, I had this epiphany when I saw the SHEER VOLUME of common/uncommons this guy had lol)
Thank you so much for these comprehensive beginner guides, I really appreciate them as a new MTG player building a F2P collection. We all deserve to know exactly how Arena’s economy works so if we do end up dropping real money, Wizards doesn’t rip us off, and you’re the one putting in the work explaining it too us all! Again, thanks a million.
Just wanted to say I've recently been getting back into magic after about an 8 year break and your videos have been immensely helpful for catching up on things. Your information is always clear and concise and is much appreciated!
Word of advice: Craft Decks, Not Cards. Don't use wildcards to craft cards that you think "ah I want a set of these I might use these in the future". Like crafting all dual lands for the "future" might be a good idea, it's not if you're not using it. Decide on a decklist you want to play, then work your way to craft that.
I think you mentioned this in previous video but what ratio do you go by (premier draft vs quick draft) each set? before you open the packs.....or does it vary based on the set and if you like playing the limited set or not?
Great question. The answer depends on lots of things. With recent sets I've probably done around 5-10 premier drafts before I move on to constructed and open some packs. I do ok in Premier draft with around 60% win rate, which helps replace the gems I pay to enter. I would decide to stop if: I don't enjoy the drafting for the set. I can't maintain a high enough win rate. I start to see a lot of the same cards and end up getting too many duplicates. After about 2-4 weeks, or whenever I really want to get started playing constructed and building new decks.
As a primarily Historic Brawl player, I always spend any wildcards I get immediately on cards that aren't legal in Standard. I don't craft cards in Standard because of ICR's and Mastery Pass pack rewards. I generally try to avoid crafting cards from sets that I can buy packs for if I can. I'm currently working on collecting cards on Arena from Modern Horizons I & II. I'm looking to brew Lonus, Cryptozoologist, so I'm currently spending my gold on packs of Throne of Eldraine to try and open Shimmer Dragon or Workshop Elders, as well as to collect knights I don't yet have for Syr Gwynn, for which I'm hoping to get some excellent knights from Lost Caverns of Ixalan before brewing again (fingers crossed for a new Vona).
That's a great point. I usually cover the game from the perspective of a Standard player, but if you're mostly a Historic/Explorer player then wildcards might be used very differently.
Seeing you get Vraska that way hurt. I seem to only get Planeswalkers like Quintorious. Except in Phantom Drafts...it made me want Lukka something fierce earlier today. I used to sleep on his abilities until he absolutely helped me demolish an enemy player when I was on the ropes today.
Another great video my friend, thank you! I will say 1 minor correction, you don't only get standard legal in the Golden packs, as I got a few lotr cards throught the 5 Goldens I opened
You're right about that. The original announcement of Golden Packs said they would only be Standard-legal, or from the latest set. It seems like for now, LotR cards are included in Golden Packs because they are 'the latest set', but I'm expecting after Eldraine is released, the LotR cards will disappear from the Golden Packs, because they won't be 'the latest set' any longer. We'll see!
@gameschooldadMTG that'd be really sweet, I'd much prefer getting that extra hit of standard legal rares/mythics!! Thanks again mate! Also, having a lot of fun with the budget draw two deck of yours.
What's your oppinion on crafting the rare lands as staples, similar to Shelly? They're used in basically every multi colored deck, but I'm not sure if there is some kind of data that shows just how much of a diference they make, when compared to the common, come into play tapped ones and a mixture of basics.
I don't have any data on exactly how much difference they make, but you know it when you see it! If I had very few wildcards, I would craft a specific good deck, or staples that fit into multiple decks first. I'd only craft the rare lands after that, and I'd probably stick to only a few of them at first that can work on multiple decks, like the Green/White lands that would enable me to better play Enchantments, Toxic and Selesnya Counters.
Lands generally make up the bulk of a decks rare budget, particuarly in multicoloured decks. So generally rare lands are technically the best use of wildcards since they are going to go in more decks that any other card you could craft in almost all cases. Also lands are significantly more likely to rotate back into standard v.s other rares. Generally the first thing that one upgrades in a budget deck is the land base since the lands can be reused later.
Any bans are usually announced in advance from Wizards of the Coast, and you'll likely see other content here on TH-cam that will mention it while you still have time to craft them. I'll post about any that I find out about too.
How do I add return to the ranks and chord of calling in wxplorer? See people use them but can't see how to add them to the deck, just crafting them was a digging nightmare.
So how long will Karlov Manor be in the standard as it is new... till 2026? Could you do some tutorial to some decent builds for 2 colours + a video about the 5 colour card and somehow in depth explain Karlov cards and how to create pure Karlov builds? Thank you
Where do I find the ban announcements if I want to pre-craft the about to be banned cards? When they show up in game as an announcement, I figure it's already too late? Or can I now (for example) craft Necropotence since it got announced in game today that it would be banned in historic?
Necropotence was pre-banned, so there isn't any way to get a wildcard refunded after crafting it. You can still craft it like normal, but I believe it's only legal to play in Historic Brawl. Normally the ban announcements will be on the website, and probably in the game inbox as well.
Yeah, if you go to make a new deck and filter by lands, you can click on a little arrow next to each basic land and then it should bring up all the different artworks. You can click the heart next to any of them to set it as your default.
Generally i think quick draft flat out gives more rares and mythics than opening packs assuming you can win at least 1 game a few times. (this is slightly offset by the golden packs). Since you get 3 draft packs plus a regualr pack for 750 gems which is more pack than you coudl buy with the same ammount in the store.
If I had gems to spend, I wouldn't buy packs with them anyway, that's not a good deal, so it doesn't make it a particularly good comparison to doing a Quick Draft. Also draft packs and reward packs don't give the golden pack bonus, which makes store packs worth 50% more. Draft can be good, but you need to get more wins or get passed extra rares, which is a risk.
I don't think Drafts are worth it anymore unless you are able to consistently get at least 4 wins every draft on average. I really suck and all of my coins and gems are spent way too fast to be worth it to me.
I did 8 Premier Drafts for Ixalan and only got a 50% win rate overall, which isn't as good as I've got for the past 3 or 4 sets averaging 60% win rate. I still profited 42 more rare cards than if I had spent all my resources on packs instead. If you get a low enough win rate then it won't be worth it compared to just buying packs.
5:05 this is such a rip off man... With the amount of rare lands in the game, and rare cards, WHY IN THE NINE HELLS would they ever put mythics/rares on the same wheel.. . They should update this system. 9 packs for a rare, 12 packs for a mythic. 6 for an uncommon. THAT is actually fair. THIS is just a bad marketing tactic

What about historic cards? Is it better to buy packs for that?
@@NeostormXLMAX If you need a specific card in historic, best to use a wild card, packs are random what you get inside.
@@deanaldridge4277what if you need a huge ammount of commons? I find that since older formats dont have jumpin getting commons are very hard

The new Starter decks still don't add to my collection when I win with them. 😥
If you still don't have them, it might be worth reporting it as a bug by emailing support. They should be able to help.
Where can I get the ban announcement before the bans take effect, so I can craft them?
When announcements like that are released, you'll get a notification in your Arena mailbox to tell you in advance of any bans.

How many drafts do you do when new set comes out
I probably do around 5-10 on average at the beginning of each new set.
Is there a tldr?
Buy packs to get more wildcards.
Save the rare ones as much as possible.
Only use them on cards you know you'll get a lot of use out of.
