Are mythic packs in MTG Arena worth spending an extra 30% on to guarantee a random mythic card vs just buying normal packs?

In my opinion, a rare wildcard is by far more valuable than a random mythic card. Duals are always rare and are necessary for every multicolor deck.
I feel this way, but I am also a big fan of completing sets simply so I can use them in brawl (and hopefully one day commander)
As a newbie to the Magic, I'd definitely take a rare wildcard over a random expansion's mythic. As someone who is still learning and building out my collection, knowing I have the flexibility to craft something specific from any set is awesome. Great video man btw! I appreciate someone going into detail on this sorta stuff!

Yep, not all mythics are equal lol. Arena is very hard to build around so I don't play standard (I also stopped playing it in paper) do to rotation. I mostly play modern in paper but also play pioneer or explorer on Arena
A dust system would be so cool an would make being F2P way easier, even if it is like 4 dusted cards for one card is worth as bulk rares and mythics are so annoying (For example I opened 4 Hurkyl’s Final Recommision which is trash)
I got 4 Hurkyls too! I know what you mean, not all cards of the same rarity are worth the same at all.
The problem is that the addition of a dust system would almost certainly come along with adjustments to the other parts of collecting. Either wildcard drop rates would be reduced, pack prices would increase, or something else. The fact that Golden packs were added without making anything else worse is exceptional, in more ways than one!
@@renmaddox They found a way to get packs better with Golden Packs so they can find something that every card game does (the dusting system). But ye they would probably make it really expensive.

@@reidyo5404 the golden packs was a good qol BUT if you really think about it it really is a way to monetize on people that don't do drafts. On the other hand if you don't draft now you've got an equitable bonus for just cracking packs.
For new and mid players earning wildcards is the way, I´ve been through 3 set rotations and the amount of playable rare and mythics from each set is so low that building your collection is useless, only specific cards matter and you need 4 of each.
lol. horsesh!t. the soldiers deck is full of rare and mythics. so is enchantments, as are mono red/black/green. so are the 3 colored decks.
I think there are quite a lot of playable rares in each set. It's sometimes hard to find the right strategy for them, and there are definitely certain ones that you see a lot more than others, but you need to fill out your collection quite a bit if you want to be able to play a variety of competitive decks and fun combos.
If a set comes along where you really, truly want most of the mythic cards in it and plan to use them, I would say the value is decent. Most sets aren't like that though. I always feel bottlenecked on rare cards, even compared to mythics, because I so seldom need to craft a mythic.
I kinda agree, having come back to Arena after playing since launch till April 2019.
All old rare WC gone very quickly to build just a B and a R deck for standard to have the ability to just win some times.
That said, atm, there is a need for Black players to have a lot of mythics - PhyFlesh, Sheoldred are staples in almost any B deck so thats 6-8 mythics there.
But yeah in general, G or R, don't need much and hmm U? ... Can't come up with staple mythics, but W has a few angels and stuff.
Idk I spent my mythics on a few key pieces, after taking a break where I missed three set releases, and haven't made them back.
Not having those wcs can really lock you out of some powerful cards considering they aren't easy to get.
Personally, I would rather have the Mythic as I'm only buying those packs if I'm trying to acquire Mythics. Sure, I wouldn't feel too bad getting a Rare wildcard instead, but I'm resistant to spending my wildcards, so don't have a shortage.
Mythic packs are a must have when you're stuck at 100% completion of your rare's, but missing like 30 of you mythics. Then you've really got no other choice, since playing more drafts or buying normal packs is a complete waste of money.
That's true if you get to that point with a set (and if you actually want extra copies that you're missing).
My philosophie is never buy packs always draft and have fun with your resources
Rare wild cards are THE currency in MTGA, i have nearly 40 mythic wilds and not even 10 rares, though this is more a representation of the recent sets and the decks i play, however i expect this to be true for a lot of people.
It really depends. Sometimes obtaining a good base of raw cards is better than to get their equivalent in rare wildcards, because at some critical mass point you will be able to reduce your consuption of wildcards too.
You can't just focus on obtaining the most rare wildcards possible because your rate of consumption will rise as less "raw" rares you have, the most rares wildcards you'll need to craft them.
Ideally you want something that gives you a critical mass of raw rares and then build up a "flex fund" of rares wildcards so that you both have the currency and less pressure to actually use.
Im always at zero on rare wild cards.
One for one in a vaccuum, a random myhthic card is better than a rare wildcard. This is because it's easier to obtain a rare wildcard than it is from obtaining a random mythic card.
Now. If we get out of the vacuum and consider how fast rare wildcards get used against the rate of obtaining them, we find out that there's a definite scarcity value added to rare wildcards. Comparatively, the rate as wich Mythic rare wildcards get used versus the rate of obtaining them is way lower.
This disproportionate use of rare wildcard versus how easy they are to obtain make it that objectively a rare wildcard is better on average than a random mythic card. Especially if you consider the fact that rare wildcard is guaranteed to be useful, versus the likely scenario of you opening an unplayable mythic rare.

Rare wildcard for sure! Considering you easily need 20 rare wildcards to just build the mana base for a given deck...
I personally would rather have the random Mythic, because that is what I paid for. If I wanted a wildcard, I would fill the track to earn said wildcard. I've been trying to complete this set (One of each copy, anyways, because I only play Brawl, since I only play EDH irl), and I can't use a Rare to help with this goal. I have plenty of Rare wildcards, anyways. It just seems shady to me that a specialized pack geared towards Mythics should have anything to do with Rares. I would've much rather bought a regular pack, and made progression towards the Golden Pack, instead of wasting my gold on these packs. They really should make it much more clear with a confirmation or something, before purchasing these packs.

I've watched many beginner videos and I understood that we should save wildcards but I'm wondering when I should start spending them.

It's one of those questions that doesn't have a clear answer, and it's different for everyone. My general advice would be to save them as much as possible, only use them for specific cards that you know you'll get good use out of, or key pieces for decks that you want to play. Apart from that, save as many as possible because it will help maximise your collection in other ways.
@@gameschooldadMTG Thanks, as a former Gwent player I'm tempted to find a competitive deck online, craft it and then maybe start doing some drafts or something. I think it could pay off in terms of rewards but I might be wrong... Do you confirm it's a bad idea in mtga?
@@tomramecin6995 There's absolutely nothing wrong with finding a competitive deck online and crafting it for yourself, as long as you've got the wildcards for it. If you find it does take a large amount of any wildcards you have, it's good to have an idea if you'll enjoy playing the deck long term as well, to get the most out of it.
I was looking through the most popular competitive decks and since theyre all 2-3 colours, they all include 20-35 rares, where 14 or more are lands (generalized stats). Thats the bottleneck for me if i want to play different decks. The manabase is the hardest
Those rare lands are definitely important crafts for anyone who wants to play competitive, especially with Standard becoming a 3-year rotating format, which will only make this a bigger issue. You can play those bigger multi-colour decks with fewer rare lands, but you definitely need at least some of them for the deck to function properly.
Spark Notes: Buy normal packs until you are close to completing the set. When you are close to finishing the set... buy the mythic packs. Its all about how many rares youve maxed out.
I'd already got all the rares and 80% of the Mythics ... So i'm just buying regular packs just to farm gems.

Feeling pushed to do daily quests for so long made me hate the game. At the end of the day, every deck idea that you want to try out is months away and their limited card selection means there are no second options. I already own a lot of cards, so I'm not exactly itching to find ways to spend more money on a version of Magic that can be nerfed. Nerfing cards is what made me stop playing Hearthstone.
.. maybe random Mythic cards for me if i get only one. But for decks, definitvely normal packs, especially for new players!

Rare wildcards. I never have enough rare Wildcards.
Hey one question. How to make ward defense for all creatures and lands? Is it possible? Im asking because, i was playing yesterday against one guy who did it, and i could do NOTHING with sorcery and istant cards. Very anoying.. thanks for feedback
In Standard there are a couple of green cards that can give hexproof to everything, and one Mishra card that gives all your permanents 'Ward - Sacrifice a Permanent'. You could still remove them with a board wipe like Depopulate or Farewell if they have ward or hexproof though.

That's debatable if you don't like draft at all. Sure draft will give you more but if you really don't like it at all, you are not enjoying the game.

So what's the best way to get gold on here? Just daily challenges?
Daily quests and daily wins give you the most gold rewards. After your first 4 wins, the rewards go down a lot, so any more than that won't make much difference to your gold.

@@jerrymcdaniel6643 you can do jump in events instead to play fairer matches against equal power decks. Or you can just do standard play games. You should be matched against other starters at the beginning to make the matches more fair. You can definitely get a couple of wins with the first decks 👍

Rare wildcards in Mythic packs are better than any rare, mythic, or mythic wildcard the pack could give you.
I eventually run out of mythic wildcards. Rare wildcards on the other hand are always at zero.
Land bases ruin the rare wildcard.
