Cross-Border Kantele: Concert piece "Kalevala rune" performed by Elena Ankhimova, Ensemble "Kantele"

Concert piece “Kalevala rune,” performed by Elena Ankhimova, International Music Contest Awardee, Ensemble “Kantele.” Music adaptation by Irina Shishkanova. This recording was made in Ilomantsi (Finland), on 12 October 2019.
This joint Finnish-Russian kantele concert was organized by the Kantele Goes Global project. Our project seeks to promote cross-border cooperation between Finnish, Russian and Karelian kantele players. We also seek to promote internationalization and popularization of kantele music worldwide by means of intercultural synthesis. We play Finnish, Russian and Karelian folk music, as well as contemporary compositions. We also try to introduce kantele into foreign cultures (North America and Far East) by using kantele as accompaniment for traditional cultural performances (i.e. dance) in recipient countries.

because many many people in Russia aren't Slavs, but Uralians, such as the Finns. This is the Kalevala a compilation of Uralic folktales. While this may not be Slavic Russian culture or the mainstream culture it is the traditional culture of many Russians. Such as Karelians, Vepsians, and these stories are related to the stores told by the Mordvins and Mari and Mansi, all of these Russian peoples.
