I feel like the Aetherium Shield is more of an "oh shit" button, it essentially gives you time to heal for example, or cast buffs, or lay traps, pretty much works best as a spell-shield build
Or if your getting jumped by ten guys
Its fucking awesome for fighting people 1v1 on legendary.
It's the best shield for legendary

I always use spellbreaker normally because for a Warrior character those ice spells always beat me mad quick. lol good video Caedo
Yeah that is why I normally incorporate conjunction into my warrior build
Or just use the atronach stone with breton dragonskin
The lightening bolts are also killer and impossible to juke unlike ice spikes or firebolts

I kind of wish that with the Aetherial Shield had a detonation effect, where it has the normal original enchantment but once the ethereal effect is done, they explode with magical damage. A shield that would be perfect for crowd control.
For those who don't know. In order to get the letter from Falk Firebeard, you must gain at least one level after completing "The Man Who Cried Wolf" quest.

@@spongebob. You're welcome. It's also worth mentioning gaining this level inside of Solitude won't count for some reason. Probably a bug that never got patched.

The use for the aestherial shield is basically crowed control. I use it a ton playing legendary because i can cut the enemy numbers down a ton and focus certain ones
Exactly, when you actually play legendary or with increased enemy / increased damage mods, you know how important this is
It's outshined too much by the crown, especially if you know how to glitch the game for all the stones at once.

The giant in the cave behind you when you see it also has a ruby paragon it might be a sapphire paragon.

dawnguard shield stamina bypass- use drai vitality shout on target before blocking
Aetherial Shield is meant for crowd control. Bash the big guy so he can’t kill you, take care of the minions, circle back to the big guy. The fear helps you get some distance from him is all. Would be much better if you could get this AND the crown, but unfortunately unless you’re specific about using this for a build then most will skip the aetherial shield.
on legendary the aetherium shield can be useful at lower levels you can use it to give yourself time to heal if you are using restoration
Aetherium Shield is my No.2 behind Spellbreaker. Great for giving you the chance to heal yourself mid combat, even if your just healing yourself for the stamina! Amazing for 1v1s, not the greatest when you’re fighting say 4 or more worthy enemies, but it saves you so so so often it’s crazy. It falls off once you get shield charge tho as knocking enemies over gives you that time to heal up, not as much time, but enough time
Spellbreaker can also be paired with the Ward Absorb perk from the Restoration skill tree, effectively negating magic attacks that hit it.
And the warlock ring from fishing
Really the only viable use I've found for the Aetherium Shield is actually giving it to a follower during moments where you're fighting crowds. It helps by giving breathing room while I can use Spellbreaker or Auriels Shield
Spell breaker is my favorite shield.
In terms of making an aetherian item, the crown is the best. Trust me, I love the dwarven stuff so much, and made all 3 items after a save to see them, and I wanted the shield to be amazing.
About the Aetherial Shield, there is a perk, I believe it's in the Block skill tree that grants you the possibility of disarming an opponet with the shield bash attack. If you couple that with the effect of the shield, when enemies are struck with the shield, they will drop their weapons and run away. All of that, coupled with the size of the shield(I believe it's the second largest, with Ysgrammor's being the largest), and thus providing more coverage from attacks, I would give a more serious look at the Aetherial Shield as more than just a wall hanger.
I see the Aetherium shield being useful if you are being swarmed, like if 3 guys are rushing you, shield bash one to take them out of the fight for a bit so you have less to worry about.
I had no idea the shield of solitude’s magic resist was a different one than the standard my God that’s useful thank you dude
If you have a non-essential follower, you can hit them with the atherial sjeild yo keep them alive when you are going through traps
This is a bit late but the Aetherium Shield is good mainly for buying time. If you can't take down the enemy, you can just bash them and run away to fight them when you're stronger.
Why is the blooded targe not on here it is pretty good at all levels but slightly drops off at 40+ with it's bleed affect and the fact that it can be upgraded using a steel ingot and you can put a resistance enchant on it also if you get to enchanting 100 and get that perk

I always pick a Breton and enchant some gear with magic resist. Never happened for me to use spellbreaker, but I recognize the power within.
You could use it at low levels to get opportunities to use healing spells against tough enemies
Combo the Aetherium shield with warlocks ring is amazing
never actually used the Aetherium Shield but where i am in the game it would be great for crowd control when fighting multiple high hp and damage mobs. you can bash most or all of the other mobs allowing you to essentially 1v1 the mobs instead of 1v? mobs.
Targe of the blooded is nice too.
For the aetherial shield
A strong shield bash does not activate its special effect.
For Spellbreaker
It also blocks shouts like unrelenting force or drain life or what have you. Very effective against deathlords with an ebony bow. They can shout you down.
My favourite shield was the targe of the bloodied.

EDIT: Also, The Aetherial Shield is usefule for interruption. Let's say you're getting clocked by a Chaurus Reaper (F those things, seriously). You can make them etherial and flee, which gives you time to either heal or run.
You forgot to involve the potion of enchanting if you and that you will become completely immune to magic

I found a shield with some crusader armor that had a ward built in
I went through the shines utcasked me to do to be worthy...but never used it it looked good but I dud not want to clunk around on a Holy Grail outfit. But the shield looked g good. I gave it to a follower whk equiped it on her back and left it there pulling out a ebony shield leaving the other in battles

Aetherial Shield strategy: When fighting a big baddie & also lesser baddies, shield bash the big baddie repeatedly as you whittle down the lesser baddies in between the bashes.

i could see the ethereal shield as being useful for taking care of aggressive hold guards without increasing your bounty
Aetherium Shield seems like a waste of time. I hate having to chase stuff around and it would lead to chasing invincible enemies around. The crown allows for 2 signs at once iirc.
Never noticed there's a huge ysgramor head above the door in his burial chamber. Noticed when you zoom over to the chest.

A cloak spell with a good sword an board is great crowd control

Whenever I play warrior or a tank build i either play Targe of the blooded or spell breaker

People know spell swords but i love playing spell shields in skyrim.
The aetherial shield could be really good if it converts the target to undead. Otherwise i'd just use chain lightning on the fleeing enemy so it shocks ther enemies.
I don't really use unique ones I use the daedric Shield kind of like spellbreaker it increases magic resistance
But spellbreaker literally nullifies magic damage

Guys listen! I just found a glitch how to apply that dawnguard rune shields sun shield to any shield , atleast I think it will be on every shield you wield :D
It was by accident when I was at kilkhreath temple and tried to block that light ray. Standing infront of it it slowly takes your health even if you have shield up. Stand there with your rune shield up and let it take your health at least half.
At one point when it have taken half your health try to switch another shield you have and raise it up. It should generate sun shield too now. It takes your stamina still as normally. But this glitch to work you have to generate that sun shield all time while standing infornt of laser!
Did anyone know about this at all? :D I just discover d it. Tell me did you get it to work or not!

So I have looked everywhere to see if anyone has found this shield, and I have come up with nothing. The shield is called Hyperion and it looks exactly like Auriels Shield. It's in Blackreach, I found it during the Septimus Signus quest: Discerning the Transmundane. You go to the ruins that has the giant orange Dwemer light orb area and make your way to the top. There is a chest to the right of the King's Throne called King's Chest. In it is the shield. I have never seen it anywhere on TH-cam or on Google. So I'm not sure if anyone else has found it.

@@kharjothekhajiit1669 No problem! It's pretty neat! It casts a ward while blocking that blocks 120pts of damage and has 30% reduction on Restoration spells!

Think that is coming from the Space Wiking Dwemer Exoskeleton or another mod that pulled from it. That shield is not in the base game

Aetherium Shield is a pretty trash shield unfortunately. The use case of that shield are super super niech

I have only ever gotten it from the Lost Relic quest. Never seen it on a dragon.

Small correction to a few things in the vid; Shield of Ysgramor CAN be upgraded at a workbench, needing Arcane Blacksmith and an ebony ingot, and benefits from ebony smithing. Shield of Solitude also cannot be disenchanted, and the magic resist enchantment on it is not unique. It's a unique shield but with 2 ordinary yet powerful enchantments, but it's considered by the game a "true unique" item, thus it cannot be disenchanted. The ability to disenchant it and the separate magic resistance shown in the video must be a result of a mod, same might be the reason for being unable to upgrade Ysgramor's shield.

Yes I am, because his videos are supposed to be of the vanilla Special Edition. Some people may not have the mods he has which might cause confusion. Note that I dont count the unofficial patch as a mod, its mandarory and might fix the issues shown in the video

Atherial Shield is worthless does nothing special. Spellbreaker is the best unique shield in the game.

That why you shouldn't play on vanilla skyrim without using mod, in my game sse really moded) i can craft nord hero arrow, upgrade every item that are not added by mod like certain custom follower armor and weapon, yep like the higer vers of nightingale blade)
