Thank you for the video,so I am living in Bangkok with my Thai wife of 38 years,it’s brilliant that you have made the move, chicken breast in Thailand 3.20 ozzy dollars,I use to judge a country on the price of beer, but as a recovering alcoholic it’s now chicken breast,I hope you have wonderful time
Good video :), In Colombia, many things are very affordable, such as food and fresh fruits. However, certain items like cars and technology are noticeably more expensive compared to Australia, largely due to high import taxes. There’s also a significant wage disparity: someone earning in dollars often has much greater purchasing power than someone earning in Colombian pesos. For example, public transportation in Colombia is affordable and widely used, but owning a car is expensive because of high taxes and import costs. In contrast, public transportation in Australia is more expensive, but cars are relatively more accessible, especially considering higher wages. Similarly, while technology can be pricey in both countries, Australians generally find it easier to afford due to their higher incomes
Yes!! All of this. I found it so interesting. Sometimes everything seemed fair and made sense in terms of income vs. Cost of living, other times I was like what the hell, this isn't fair on Colombians. But then geez, some of the costs in Australia are completely absurd and unfair.
Great videography! We live in Colombia and its not cheap if you don't budget. Which we need to start doing. Humans will always spend a lot of they dont control their spending. Rent, gas, utilities, food, clothes, school fees, phone bills etc etc things add up!
It used to be cheap. Same as Thailand used to be 30 years ago. Not anymore. Don't forget, it is still dangerous, you have to watch what you are doing and where you are going.
I would say that the quality for meat I found was much higher in Canada than in Colombia, so even if ur savings a bit of money in Colombia; ur getting waay worse quality. But the fruits are very good in Colombia (because it’s locally grown).
Ohh yeah fruits and veg are awesome! I only really bought chicken and the quality of meat was excellent. My ex boyfriend who is Colombian would argue about the quality of other meat being low though 😄 he used to diss on Aussie meat for being lower quality
En Colombia hay gente que gana muy bien dependiendo de su profesión, pero obviamente nos quejamos porque siempre queremos mejoras y el mundo esta en constante cambio
Income is not good in Colombia there's no compassion to make. Also, coriander at Spud shed for that amount is about 70 cents to 1 dollar. Gotta get away from woolies and Cole's sometimes sis.
I agree! But Woolies and Coles don't make it bloody easy to get away from. I don't even know what Spud Shed is but that name makes me want to know all about it
Yes baby, it’s called profit margin. Although I would like to see if there’s any greater use of regulation and safety standards on the Australian side.
Wow. Lots to think about … As someone who lives in Sydney and went to the Philippines this year for holiday, I was definitely doing the calculations and fantasising about a move there
With the Aussie dollar to spend in the Philippines, you’ll be alright there, but for us locals, it’s hard to get by because of our very low wages. I’m a Filipino living in Australia, I love living here with my partner and son but don't know until when… cost of living keep souring. We’re just very blessed to have our comfortable dwelling here for $400 per week. It's still doable for us, as we both working. Good luck to you, we love foreigners in the Philippines.
Have you considered that here in Colombia, we have a 3rd world infrastructure, a collapsing 3rd world health system, with many diseases such as tuberculosis and Dengue still prominent?? Have you considered that the level of bureaucracy and corruption are one of the highest in the 3rd world?? Have you considered that we have the highest level of crime and terrorism in latiamerica?? Have you considered that every year, over 40 westerners get deleted in Colombia?? But you did consider that potatoes and bananas are cheaper, right?? Let me tell you something, the majority of Colombianos would give an arm and a leg to live in Australia. I know your country. It is an amazing safe prosper place to live and raise a family.
I really do appreciate your perspective. I was simply making a price comparison video to help people understand it's not as simple as "potatoes and bananas" being cheap (though I didn't actually look at the price of those two things). Colombia is awesome and comparing anything between the two countries is not apples for apples.
@@comfortisforwimps I agree, but with all your respect, in the video, you are the one who's comparing prices of a poor country Colombia to Australia a wealthy developed country, (Apples to Oranges). For us prices are impossible to pay, specially the price of rent, since western (L) men have been coming here to bottom feed on (S) workers and to consume (D)
There are always going to be multiple layers to any idea or perspective. It's never that black and white. And I consciously made an effort to share not just price differences but income disparities too. I wanted to show that it's not easy for Colombians, which I think I did with comparing incomes. It's a complicated system and my intentions are just to get people thinking. Because people don't think about any of this stuff. But it would take someone far more experienced in journalism than me to unpack the issues you pointed out. I have another video about the downtown area of Medellín which touches on the issue of foreigners coming in and making things harder for locals.
you're forgetting that there is a 30% import tax in Colombia. Every piece of technology is more expensive there. The produce is cheap and that's about all that's cheap there. You didn't look at anything other than one grocery store.
Dentists, doctors, eye laser surgery, yoga, food, rent... Watch the video bro. Well you don't have to, but what's with all the people commenting without actually watching? I put hours into making this 😄
The majority of Colombians aren't part of the formal economy. They're trying to stay afloat with gig jobs that don't contribute towards their retirement.
@@comfortisforwimpsI didn’t need to watch it because the premise is ridiculous. Anyone with a 70 IQ can tell you why it’s cheaper-people in those regions are paid some of the lowest wages in the world whats to question the minimum wage there is 290us dollars a month... so crap is going to seem dirt cheap but its not cheap if you have to earn money there

Yes! I was in NZ at the beginning of the year and I noticed this. I have no idea about incomes but prices were a little higher for sure.

A lb of meat in Colombia is $4
Haha that's a funny switch and congrats on being sober!
Yeah I have no doubt it comes cheaper in many places, I did supermarket for supermarket though

You have to go to the butcher for high quality meats and it's way more expensive 🫰
