Forgive the heresy, but I actually think the Iron Hands detachment sounds like a great fit for Deathwatch units. Spammed five man squads of vets and terminators will really benefit from all the rerolls (helllooooo missiles). And if you need to find a use for your Desolation marines, just have them ride in an impulsor sitting next to a techmarine with the lethal hits aura and use the sustained hits 1 and crits on 5+ strat every turn.
Thanks for the update SH! I’m remaining positive they’ll update the fortis since there’s not much point running them as each component unit has a better individual ability. Sticky obj, RRW on obj, shoot on death and turbo boost
I would immensely like if they added something called "Veterans of the long vigil" to all KTs, that would allow picking a single original ability of a datasheet rather than the KT one. Like a Fortis KT could pick sticky obj, rrw on obj, etc instead of getting Fortis Doctrines. This would make KTs far more future-proof.
Great video, and I appreciate the summary at the end! In a perfect world, I would love to see a Primarch scale Captain Artemis or Watch Master followed by a buff to the Blackstar! Then maybe a Primaris Veterans kit with even more customized bits for different chapters. You are right about some of the new guys looking plain. I've been getting a lot of 3rd party bits to fix the problem, but it would be nice to have something beyond the standard chapter shoulder kits.
Exactly the same for me, I have been leaning heavily into 3rd party bits and there are some great ones to be had, but nonetheless, I appreciate when the original models already provide some neat options, aka DW Vets and now the multi-part-kit Sternguard Vets. Having said that, it would be great if every chapter had access to some kind of Primarch-level character, including the DW.
I wonder what kind of detachments we'll have when our codex comes around. The all KT force from Octarius is the most likely candidate. But can we get 6-7? Maybe one where we can purloin the detachment rule of another force for a turn? The other non-codex compliant SMs that can get close are Dark Angels with Death/Raven Wing. Blood Angels could have an 'oops all death company' list. Space Wolves...Wulfen? It might be economical for GW to put all the chapters without announced codexs into one big book and be done with it. Economical for us, not GW.
Purely speculation from my side, but I think this depends on how they handle the continuing access to the SM codex detachments for non-codex compliant chapters. If the latter get an actual "codex" with multiple detachments, I personally think that access to the ones from the SM codex should be restricted. The alternative would be that we keep access to all the SM ones, but maybe only have a single updated one in our own codex/supplement.
I think they actually look much better! Real cheap bikers with str 5 -2 AP! I’ll run em as Vet Bikers long as I can before they scrap em or update the data sheet (hopefully)
VetBikers are a solid datasheet, it would be to our advantage if they remained available. We can only speculate at this point, but if GW wants to pull a "minimum effort" on DW once more, I think they will leave them plus the Proteus KT untouched.
Now if we could just get a DW upgrade kit with more than 2 Terminator pads! Definitely getting the Command Squad, Jump Captain and some Jump Assault. I use GK Terminators for Deathwatch so I'm not so fussed about them :D
There is also the potential issue that the newly scaled Terminators have slightly bigger pads than the original Terminator pads, including our DW ones. This should be reason enough to warrant a new kit, but we shall see.
I know it's not the subject of the video but Proteus and Deathwatch Veterans can only be leaded by Captain Artemis, a Watchmaster or a Jump Captain now. Since Vanguard Veterans on foot don't exist anymore and most Characters can't lead Vanguard Veterans. Hope they update ir soon

It would be quite ironic if the IH detachment ended up being the best for DW. I am still suffering from 8th edition IH trauma...

@@SwissHammer a pretty simple change that would make the KT’s pretty fun to play

Bring back the black shield
Add new unit's to Killteams
Stop nerfing DW
It's a long vigil and our watch is not going to be easy.
Let's keep our fingers crossed that GW will provide a proper DW index update along with the release of the SM codex. One can dream.

Do you think our veteran bikes suffer since the bike squads are gone from the main codex? I know they are different datasheets but still...

And inquisitors!
This is something that they really need to address with a day 1 FAQ. On the bright side of things, Inquisitors will continue to work.
Would be nice to get terminator, biker and jump characters in a proteus
