I Just bought one and had it installed on my 2021 Ford Ranger Lariat FX4 in blacked out carbonized gray. It looks premium and works well. Definitely would recommend it to others. FYI, it’s not shaped for your model of truck. It’s one shape for all, so it won’t follow the contours of the back of a truck cab like a regular canopy would. I didn’t want regular.
I wonder how difficult it would be to make a custom after market detachable screen for the small little side window on each side of the Smart Cap. Maybe a fine mesh with either velcro or magnets to hold it in place when the little window is open, but perhaps detachable so when you want to close the little window on either side you can just remove it, and maybe store it inside the Smart Cap by the window somewhere for easy access from the side or inside, or just roll them up and put them in the glove box or center console storage bin when not needed? It's a small thing but a screen on those little side windows would be important to me, and if RSI won't offer it direct, included or as an option, I'd like to make one or have one made after market. Awesome cap though, and frankly the extra weight I suspect would help with improved traction in the snow. And its extra sturdiness would make that cap top a much more usable space for racks and heavier things I suspect.
This looks like a very nice product. I wonder, can you get one of these for the 2023 or 2024 Ford F150 Raptor? Platinum? And those little side windows, can those come with bug screens? How about bug screens for the larger side or rear openings? And lastly, maybe a longshot, but I'm a tall guy, 6'2"+. I wonder, if I wanted to open the rear window of this RSI Smart Cap and open the pick up tailgate, is there any kind of a tent type enclose so that I could sleep in the back on the bed but have the enclosure protect me from rain while sleeping partly out on the tailgate? If it's not raining, no issue, just sleep with my head and shoulders out in the open air, but I wonder about rain or morning dew/dampness and Imagine if there was some kind of attachment for an extended tent added to the back of the cap.
I've had mine for a few months in Alaska. Wouldn't recommend if you live in a colder climate. All 6 of my locks and hinges are constantly freezing closed. The lock has no cover and there is a recess behind the hinge that collects water and freezes. Usually can't even get the key into the locks, if you can the hinge is still frozen closed and you need a screw driver to pry each one open. Need to keep the truck inside or carry a blow torch for the locks which isn't ideal for the appearance of the smartcap or anything else. Had a Leer for 7 years previously and never had this issue. I didn't buy mine from the creator of this video.
Hey thanks for the feedback. We’ve reached out to the manufacturer for feedback/suggestions and will pass them on. We aren’t your kinda cold but it gets to -20 often enough.
Following up. RSI has only had a few reports of this and action being taken. Carwell CP-90 has been successful in similar situations with Tonneaus etc. This product is being sent out to test in Alaska and Canada. Other considerations are being discussed and RSI would like you to know that feedback is taken seriously and if issues can be confirmed, and solutions can be found they will take care of their customers.
@@bobvedder2451 - “Leer” is no better, there’s no such thing as a quality lock for a canopy, it does not exist. I’m not not talking about the construction of the handle, I’m talking about the $3.00 lock cylinder they put in the handle. A quality lock cylinder, by itself is north of $60.00-$90.00 each, companies just don’t spend this, understandably. But to make the claim “your tools are secure” inside is well, you know. I’m a locksmith that’s installed some quality lock hardware with high security locks in the odd custom compartment in a truck, but’s it’s not cheap. If I was paying for a top tier premium canopy, I would expect locks that weren’t utter crap.
Are they all the same size for the full-size trucks? What are the dimensions of a cap for a Silverado? You said that they will fit on different year model trucks....... The company doesn't make anything for the Silverado under the year 2019......... I believe that it will fit a 2015 Silverado. If it will fit a 2015 I will for sure buy one. Can you help me with this please ?
Really nicely made product but I would love to see them upgrade their locks to be compatible with a key fob remote to open electronically. Also some more protection for the locks against the cold due to the problem mentioned in the comments below. Also it definitely needs screens on the vent windows. Can you tell me if there is a slider in the front so that you can pass through to the cab of the truck? Thanks for the great video.

RSI makes what they call “Positive Air Pressure Vent” that is on top of the cap. This video did not show it but with a little research you can find out for yourself.
They are priced at the premium end. But you are getting a lot of value. Consider just shipping costs. The modular design allows for lower cost shipping so the $4,000 US starting price includes more Csp and less shipping. The other value to consider is that when OEMS bring out a new design full-size pickup, the box dimensions are rarely changed. The OEMS are sensitive to the fact that trades people, service company’s etc have large investments in special equipment for the box. We think that fact makes investing in a product like RSI, made from materials such as stainless steel and aluminum and designed for a long service life in challenging environments, a really good price/value. You will find the pricing very consistent and that all combined should lead to a good resale value. Many of these Caps will see multiple trucks under them. You just need to make sure you trust the brand of truck you choose is built just as tough 😁
Can you recommend me a good low cost cap? I'm not broke, but I have to support a lot of children right now and It just doesn't feel right to spend money on myself

Hey there, curious if you ever get a SmartCap? If so, what was the total wait time? Thanks!
Ordered one January 2023 and now it's January 2024, and I still don't have it. So beware before you order.

Quick to purchase he said. Well, my local dealer here in Portland said I can’t get the C model for about 7 months. Very bummed about that.
All good. Does it work with RamBox?
