That doesn't work. It only cuts the free edge, it doesn't measure the whole nail with the nail bed. Most people have different length of nail beds on right and left hand
It does work. Because you're not supposed to measure from the CUTICLE to free edge. The length of the nail is from the fingertip to free edge, as seen from UNDERNEATH the finger when turned over. All the free edges should be a uniform length when viewed this way. The short is correct.
