Fun fact : Post the release of Bombay, some religious extremists threw petrol bomb on Mani Ratnam's house, if it had been any other director they would have chosen to make non-controversial commercial films henceforth, but Mani Ratnam's next film was Iddaru, the most controversial movie in his career. It even boldly showed the corruption in the respective parties. He followed it up with Dil Se(first Indian movie to be based on Assam separatist movement and Amrutha(first Indian movie to be based on Sri Lankan Civil war).
