I'm loving geckos in my spitshined old ishtar, but the only other drones I use are garde IIs and put myself at a distance. Only 550 DPS but there's a weird purity about passive sig tank and no ammo to fuss with. I drop a tractor unit on grid and come back in a salvage ship.
fact is if u use a ship that have drone bouns u can throw heavy drone against cruiser as long you skills are great and also remeber that drones can be replace all times so bail out when things are getting hot to fight another day and about gecko are awesome for rattlesnake in c3 grinding but once u can offord 2 accounts go for dual box ishtar remote repair with orger t2 or caldire t2 drone they would be much faster then rattlesnake wth gecko also can repair drones :> also good video
You've almost convinced me but I do have one question? Back in the bad old days I remember drones having a mind of their own (in almost the worst moments) where, it didn't matter what you ordered them to do, they chose to do something else. Has this glitchiness now been fixed?

Drones always seemed to want to attack trigger ships, or not return on command... hell once my drones switched targets to a buddy I was with in a fleet during a mission, and neither of us even had the other targeted. Drone glitches are long gone, but they also don't insta-launch now, rather pop out one by one. It isn't a big time difference, but it is a little annoying either waiting to press F or pressing it repeatedly so they all attack after launch.
@@RobertBreckenridge13 There is a system to solve this friend and I'm glad to be able to tell you, (assuming I understand your problem). In space, you will see a list of your available drones. What you need to do (by right-clicking IIRC) is assign each one to a group and you can name the group as you see fit...i.e. ''small thermal'', ''medium thermal'' or ''ECM''. Of course, each group can only hold 5 drones max but when you run your cursor over the group title you should get the option to launch all of that group in one go. I hope this is clear and helps.
If i may ask, why are you focusing on Caldari drones? Players told me Gallente is best for PVE (dmg type) and Minmatar for PVP (speed). Whats the catch with Caldari that made you choose those over the others?
A better answer would probably be it depends on who you're shooting. In general I believe the gallente drones do the most dps outright but if you're shooting a target that resists the damage type that the gallente drones do, then you're better off just using a different drone type. Apart from the geckos, each factions drones primarily do a different damage type
Is there a site where i can see Fits online somewhere (i discovered i had a old account from 2006 ) but i made a new one and feel like im brand new, i tranfered 1 bill isk to my "alpha" and bought a myrmidon. Now those Gechos are so nice but i can only launch 1 and rest hornets /or 2 gechos only. is there a fit that can squize out more banwith ? (my 2 gechos+3 hornets 'integrated') ((Im staying in alpha for time being)
It's not good to slow down fast moving targets, especially when they are orbiting you. In this case, heavy drone would orbit target and it will cause them to miss or deal less damage. When they are chasing target from behind, they'll always hit and crit more often ^-^
Not exactly easy to explain the whens and the hows, but sentry drones can make real short work of enemy ships of any size, as long as their transversal isn't too high. If its an L4 mission that you can just stay put and enemy ships spawn far from you you can just snipe them down with sentries. The distance and transversal where you can optimally do this will vary greatly depending on the drone you're using, enemy you're facing and of course, your skills and ship fit.
You didn't mention targeting range and drone control range. I made a drone boat and forgot about it went out and can control my drones to 105km but can't lock target till I get within 40km. Not much point in being able to control drones if you can't lock a target.
The only thing I question is the gecko drone, those are over $200m each right now and yes they are definitely better but those are 2/3 the price of the hull your launching them from in the case of your space potato and I personally think if you're going to splurge for geckos you should maybe consider a better platform to use them on its like using a rare 1/2 billion isk faction module on a rifter. To be clear I'm not saying it doesn't work but that's an expensive drone for that hull I mean a flight of 5 is a billion isk.

i use 2 geckos, 2 mediums, 1 hornet. you can check zkillboard for fits of ships that are killed and such

Getting a target's transversal velocity (amount of speed and turning) to 0, gets more hits and crits

A Ishtar with decent modules does around the same dps, can tank alot more, and is relatively safer for lvl4s with that dps.
