Used to see them going to rehearsals at the inch house edinburgh when i worked with the park patrol in the inch park what fantastic band they deserved more recognition than they achieved
I was a fan - had their first two albums - and they got on the 31 in to town - Martin and Shirley - downstairs in the 'disabled seats', behind the stairs - I was beside myself, but to shy to say anything. I wish they'd been better appreciated - incredible band and songs.
Typical of me, I found them decades too late. Got to them via Isa and the Filthy Tongues, and only later realized the connection to Garbage, which I also love.
Gosh, I remember doing monitors for them in the Assembly rooms. Whatever happened to that wee backing singer? No answers on postcards. I was being silly!
I was so,ooooo in love with martin, yet looking back it should have been Finn, what a body!? John was my bestie in those days, used to make his tea every Tuesday. Love you still J! Kx
00:00 - Open Your Arms 04:09 - The Rattler 07:58 - Dust 11:14 - Knockin’ On Joe 18:50 - You Generous Thing You 23:39 - I’m Sick of You 27:40 - Here Comes Deacon Brodie 31:12 - Goodwill City 35:28 - Goodbye Mr. MacKenzie
Thanks for this. I loved the Mackenzies, saw them a few times, bought all their recordings. They should have been huge. Nice to see them back together again playing shows.
Really looking forward to seeing them play at The Barrowlands in December 2021, never thought I'd see them at The Barrowlands again, long time coming x
Martin Metcalf, Big John Duncan, Fin Wilson, Derek Kelly, Rona Scobie & Shirley Manson....what a band. The sound of my youth but I think the crowd is dead.
This music reminds me of Deacon Blue, also a Scottish group that produced a lot of very good music in the same area, but are only remembered because of their hit “Real gone kid”. They also had a wonderful female singer that suffered from the same lack of perspicacy of the other band members : if you have a wonderful female voice in the group …. Use it. And just don’t let her yell only “ooh” and “aah” to back up the male singer.
No, it's a bit earlier than that. It was a gig specially put on at the Town & Country Club in Kentish Town to be filmed. I'm not sure who else was on the bill that night. ITV did a couple of series I think, I went to one that featured NMA and Something Happens.
Im not really into these guys...in. 89 the los Angeles sfene alone woulda schooled these guys...they are trying...maybe a lil Siouxie weird influence...anyways ..siundgarden mudhoney res hot chili janes and x were going string doing what the sound was 5 years later....truth ....shirley is gewt though...great...
JC 120. I still have 2 of them! Beautiful amps. I need to stop hoarding amps!
This takes me back to a special time of my life. Oh the memories!
A proper band, one of Scotland's finest.
Open Your Arms is a fantastic song. Thanks for sharing.

Saw them in my home town Paisley the other night, still tremendous live as was the case the first time I saw them in Edinburgh in 1988. 😎
They were awesome on the tour. Just wonderful to see them play all those great songs again live. A great band that really should have made it big.

I love this band
Shirley is so gorgeous , Joppas finest . Scotlands greatest band at the time.

You're right with the crowd but they are in London and maybe they were supporting someone?
@@AndrewSmith-gq5ze Good point Andrew.
@@AndrewSmith-gq5ze lets just say the energy in St Andrews Student Union was a little more sweaty in 1988/89. BRILLIANT live band
