    You forgot the step where you throw out the cranberries and just drink the brandy. :) Your Grandma's adorable by the way, what a great laugh.

    So, to anyone wondering, it's one of those small bags of cranberries, plus three-fourths cup white sugar, plus the juice of one orange. That's the standard recipe. You can add the orange zest too, if you want. You don't need any water, the orange juice is enough and it's better when its thicker, more tart, better on turkey and sandwiches. But really all you have to do with that is put it in a pot and simmer it until all the cranberries pop, and then let it cool and put it in the fridge overnight. It was so easy I had my toddler do it last night. The only part I did was help her juice the orange and work the stove.

    This makes me miss my gramma so much. I'm one of the youngest grandkids out of 19. She was 93 when she passed 5 years ago. I feel kind of jipped. I was only 28 when she died and I hadn't seen her for a few years before that. She lived in ND and I moved down south. Cherish your beautiful grandma. Give her lots of hugs.

    Best way to make cranberry sauce starts with a can opener

  • @Matando
    @Matando 3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    I'm originally from New Jersey, yes the New is silent, and there was only one kind of cranberry sauce. You had to get the cans of Ocean Spray Jellied cranberry sauce. It was grown in my homestate and Ocean Spray is a farmer's cooperative. Gotta support the farmers :)

    • @timbuktu8069
      @timbuktu8069 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Empty it out onto a plate so that it retains the shape of the can and Hey Presto you're done.

    • @greyeaglem
      @greyeaglem 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@timbuktu8069 No, you have to slice it according to the ridge marks from the can.

    • @greyeaglem
      @greyeaglem 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      My brother-in-law and I like the jellied cranberries, but my mother would only have the kind Charlie was making so we'd have to bring our own. They weren't allowed on the table and had to stay in the kitchen. Eventually they were allowed on the table, but were relegated to a plastic bowl. Everything else was in crystal and china. Then we got a long, narrow chrome tray that was perfect for our sliced cranberries. Eventually as years went by china gave way to paper plates and crystal bowls to plain ones, but our chrome cranberry tray endured. Now our lonely cranberries are in the fanciest dish on the table.

    The recipe is on each bag of cranberries (go easy on the recommended sugar - less is better). Just add orange slices, a can of mandarin slices (the best) or a 1/2 can of pineapple pieces for the last few minutes of cooking. Careful not to add too much of the liquid - it should be cooked down to a jam consistency and not a runny syrup. Tell your folks I says "hi".
