Did new versions of Minecraft make the world size go exponential? Last I knew, in 1.8 even a world used by a lot of people (> 80 avg) for like half a year usually was only around 10-20GB.
Data packs do work, but some experimental features don’t. I have 5 minigames on the platform and that’s honestly the big appeal for me. Not the best service, but for the ease of use you can make a survival world quickly and play minigames whenever you want without any hassle or searching.

Realms really only makes sense in some limited situations. Like a Win10 Bedrock realm for your family to play on.. that makes sense.. but anything Java based, it just doesn't make any sense with so many other options available.
Realms has a different target than your average hosting company. I'm a software dev, I like doing things myself, so I would never use Realms. I'm more comfortable setting up a dedicated server on my own using something like Linode. I'm also quite technical with my worlds and settings. But that's not your average user. Your average user just wants to click a button to play, and that's exactly what Realms accomplishes.
Joining takes so long because greedy Microsoft actually shuts off the realm once no players are online and quickly reboots them once somebody wants to join. Even if you made chunk loaders and stuff your farms will just stop after a bit of no players online
@@arlooh_ I find it more greedy because of setting up farms and clocks and other stuff. Every other host doesn't even have to say that they are 24/7. Because they are, Microsoft just cheaps out even more on a cheap & bad service
In our use case, it's worth it. 3rd party servers always lag for us and it's literally unplayable. Realms changed that, and for the price split between us 4, it's really, really worth it.
I mean what did you expect? technical things like plugins, mods or access to the server files in vanilla minecraft? If you only need to play with a few frends on a normal Minecraft world (with some datapacks even, I checked) or you wanna enjoy some of the best, most amazing community made minigame maps hand picked by Mojang, realms is a definetly an option. That said, there are way better alternatives for sure, I do not recommend ever wasting money on a Minecraft realm.
for bedrock, just make a singleplayer game and add freinds to join. for java, there are loads of free server hosting companies online with tons more features. No realms needed.
Sure it CAN be that simple for bedrock players, but realms wasn't designed for players who want to do that. Realms stay open 24/7, so anyone with access can join at any time. If you do it the way you suggested, then the host HAS to open the world and stay logged in. It's just not viable long-term, especially if you have more than one friend. As for realms on Java, yes I agree. It's pointless on Java. But realms wasn't designed for Java, it was designed for bedrock, and just ported over to Java.
we had a realm. The connection is absolute trash. If your connection isn't stable, you get kicked. We had to use a VPN while playing on our realm. I've NEVER had this issue on ANY server. DO NOT buy realms
10:17 I have a bedrock realm that has 247.42gb and it is older than the combat update. Bedrock's Realms are nothing compared to Java. Why do you think that Java has so many server providers open to public? Minecraft Realms on Java is just horrible! But on Bedrock is just like rowing a boat on ice.
Me and a friend of mine use bought a realm for like 4 months, because we thought we don’t want to deal with config and other stuff and just want to play vanilla simple Minecraft. Long story short, not recommended. Any sever hosts offer plugins or modded options, and is even cheaper. Not to mention on realm we encounter lag and bug often, and it took me 3 tries to download the world.
Hey...I also want to player minecraft with my friends but I don't want to play...how can I make a server on mobile to play normal survival minecraft with my friends?
yeah you bought a realm for 4 months meaning you willingly or your friend kept the subscription up for 4 months and played for 4 months, and now youre not anymore because you encounter lag and bug often really? LMAO
People like y’all forget that there’s so many people who play on Bedrock, specifically on console, and they don’t have the options we have on Java, Realms is here for those of us that for have the choice to just do that
The server can crash with enough tnt. It let me join and then kicked me a few times after like 3 or 4 kicks it said server crashed, and then kicked me again, and then like I rejoined and the tnt worked perfectly after.
I have had a lot of servers throughout the years with plugins and stuff but now i have a realm cause its less hassle and if you only are a couple of people that wanna play some vanilla it works fine.
at that point, don't pay Mojang... just get Aternos... the only downside I see for Aternos is advertising, at least you can mod, have multiple servers, and literally own a server...
Java realms was great back then, then it got less and less. more restrictions more discontinuations, no more activity logs. Then they decide to cap the render distance to something so low its near impossible to enjoy with others. Cancelled it a long time ago, my realm has tons of old memories but its not worth the price anymore, I'd rather host it as a server
I pay for a realm and it’s because I Cba to set a server up and it’s easier for me and the boys to be able to constantly play without having the host (me) in game we can all play at any time so the progress don’t stop, I see it as a small fee for being able to have the boys join whenever they want and being able to play Minecraft together as were all older now and don’t have as much time to meet up with each other
I think a lot of people forget not everyone has a pc so can’t make a server second thing in a real the server stays up for al long as you like without the host being there making console friends just buy $8 for a month for the world and all the packs you can put in your world and do cool stuff with your hotbar you didn’t really break it down good to say it’s not work it but that’s my break down
I have realms+ on Bedrock at the moment and you get so much more stuff if you get it on bedrock. You get a ton of free texture packs, skins and maps that you can play, most of the maps and texture packs change every month or so, so there's a lot of options! Realms on java seems like a total scam. :/
My wife and I have been using a Minecraft realms server for months. I have a buddy that pops on every once in a while and he's unable to connect otherwise no matter how much I try. We had our world already made so it was just an easy option to convert it to realms. My wife and I started playing split-screen on the Switch and then we bought an Xbox Series S so the only way to migrate worlds was to create a Realms server on the Switch. Eventually I bought it for the PC so we can have our separate screens and she plays it on the Xbox. Honestly, now that I have PC I no longer need to pay for realms, but I do just because it's already setup and $8/mo is not killing me.
I think it's a good choice in your situation. There's a persistent dichotomy between freedom and accessibility, and while you may have more control over a hosted server, there are a lot more moving parts to keep track of that it may simply not be worth troubleshooting, especially if you nor anyone you know is particularly technically inclined. I've used a realm for a time when my friends and I were younger, and we even managed to lean on datapacks (which do work on realms) for some of the finer tuning as a medium between vanilla and modded/plugins. I'm glad you find that Realms works for you.
Not being allowed to coustomise your Realm with mods, older versions, or even datapacks, is a deal breaker for me. ... Hypixel isn't an option either, because it's not private, nor coustomisable.
Realms is more for console where you cant just log into a new server to play with friends. you have to make a world that is only active when your online which can be annoying for friends
As someone who plays both Bedrock and Java but mainly and actually has a Bedrock real its actually not bad at all, you can even add experimental stuff to the realm, sl in that version is better than java, apparently
i used to own bedrock realms when i was a kid, and it was fun. but that was years ago, before i realised free server hosting existed. ever since then i've just been using aternos.
I tried Shockbyte and after a month of progress they erased the world, but still expected me to pay them. I was done with their crap and moved over to here. Much better knowing i didnt have to pay $16-30 a month for one server, and have a butt-ton of lag.
There’s realms and realms plus. Realms is you and 2 friends Realms plus is what you got. My only complaint is that realms is only you and 2 other people, why not you and 5 other friends? Realms plus has too much for what I need, and realms has too little!
Tbh, realms are only good for bedrock players. Sure you can just do a private world and invite people, but a realm is good when your friends are in different timezones💀Not everyone can join at the same time, so yeah its okay. But in Java? I like minecraft realms. Finally a world where me and my friends can play together without one of us actively managing it. It’s chill and simple.
i dont get it, what do you mean managing? I don’t really play MC like that, so whats the difference between a regular realm and this realm?
Did new versions of Minecraft make the world size go exponential? Last I knew, in 1.8 even a world used by a lot of people (> 80 avg) for like half a year usually was only around 10-20GB.
New world format post 1.18 due to the new world size.
So... Probably
Bigger world, more new blocks biomes, mobs etc. just survival world with 1 player can take over 2gb in a few days
its actually pretty nice, but not being able to select versions is a giant downside
Data packs do work, but some experimental features don’t. I have 5 minigames on the platform and that’s honestly the big appeal for me. Not the best service, but for the ease of use you can make a survival world quickly and play minigames whenever you want without any hassle or searching.
the only thing i dont like about realms is the fact that they cap the render distance to 10 chucks on the server side
They upped that quite a bit recently
@@nathansnively1537 yeah 24 I believe? If so, that's playable unlike before lol
I once created a modded singleplayer world and uploaded it to my dedicated server (a general purpose one, not specialized on gaming or minecraft) and it worked just fine, with all mods and the datapack.
I’ve used a realm for 6 years, so since June 2017 😅 it’s been great! Definitely worth the $8 a month!
Realms really only makes sense in some limited situations. Like a Win10 Bedrock realm for your family to play on.. that makes sense.. but anything Java based, it just doesn't make any sense with so many other options available.
Which options? Because I've just read the instructions to build a server and now I have headache lol
Realms made sense for bedrock because console players cant connect to 3rd party servers. But java realms....? why.....?
Shader: Complementary Reimagined
Resource Pack: Faithfull x32
DataPack / Terrain : Terralith/ Tectonic
Fabric Mods : Sodium, Nozium, Iris Shaders, Lithium (Maybe)
On consoles it works fantastic. Currently they added free back ups, free market place items such as skins, add-ons (mods), texture packs, etc.
As a former realms user you cam use realms that crash was likely a coincidence
realms is super fun when u have lots of friends who want to play at different times
Even if you made chunk loaders and stuff your farms will just stop after a bit of no players online
its not greedy, its smart, why keep a server on 24/7 for each realm every player had ever made even when someone isnt on it? its a waste of resources
Ye that's just common sense. Why run servers with nobody on them.
@@arlooh_ I find it more greedy because of setting up farms and clocks and other stuff. Every other host doesn't even have to say that they are 24/7. Because they are, Microsoft just cheaps out even more on a cheap & bad service
@@arlooh_ it might be smart but what makes it greedy is that they advertise 24/7 uptime which is just a complete lie
Do you know how expensive it would be to keep all realms running 24/7?
In our use case, it's worth it. 3rd party servers always lag for us and it's literally unplayable. Realms changed that, and for the price split between us 4, it's really, really worth it.
It looks like it turns off when no one is playing and then boots 20 second when someone joins
Still can't believe we have to create a server to play multiplayer online. One of the few things Bedrock is actually beyter at.
What would you do then? I have no experience and would like to learn
"Why can't I just use world edit"
Me when /fill exists
for bedrock, just make a singleplayer game and add freinds to join. for java, there are loads of free server hosting companies online with tons more features.

Thanks! This looks like exactly what I’m looking for.
“Breadshop watch’s this video”
Breadshop: Why am I in a realm?
Certain “datapacks” Technically work, the problem is realms can’t support experimental features.
I loved realms when they first came out. Now my friends could play in my world when I wasn't online. Bedrock didn't have that before
6:49 is /fill not a command on realms?
It is, he didn't use it most likely because he isen't familliar or didn't think of it.
It probably is as it's a vanilla command. But I want my WorldEdit 😭😭😭
LMAO
6:49 - the /fill command could do that in seconds
In Turkey, it doesn't even cost a dollar. It's 20 turkish liras. Like 70 cent. It definitely worth a lot more.
People like y’all forget that there’s so many people who play on Bedrock, specifically on console, and they don’t have the options we have on Java, Realms is here for those of us that for have the choice to just do that
Suggestion: Make a video showcasing New In Town datapack and maybe make videos on mods and datapacks too.
I've been exploring Mods more lately! Might also do datapacks. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thank you, I was seriously considering it, but not adding mods or maps above 5GB is rediculous.
I used it once to transfer my java world on pc to my ps5 bedrock , i think this is the only useful feature.
its an old feature for people who dont feel like running a server on their computer even though there are plenty of free minecraft server hosting
6:46 /fill
at that point, don't pay Mojang... just get Aternos...
the only downside I see for Aternos is advertising, at least you can mod, have multiple servers, and literally own a server...
alternative title : lagging mincraft realms servers
Java realms was great back then, then it got less and less. more restrictions more discontinuations, no more activity logs. Then they decide to cap the render distance to something so low its near impossible to enjoy with others. Cancelled it a long time ago, my realm has tons of old memories but its not worth the price anymore, I'd rather host it as a server
I always knew Minecraft realms wasn't that good. Great video! Very funny!!😂
Glad you enjoyed it mate! And I figured that out too 🤣
I pay for a realm and it’s because I Cba to set a server up and it’s easier for me and the boys to be able to constantly play without having the host (me) in game we can all play at any time so the progress don’t stop, I see it as a small fee for being able to have the boys join whenever they want and being able to play Minecraft together as were all older now and don’t have as much time to meet up with each other
A brave hero who saved our hopes and dreams and 8$ unhurt.
Thank you
Realms know as players can play the world without the host being there.
Realms are perfectly fine if you want a casual bedrock server to play with your friends on multiple platforms. For java, there's no point.
Not being allowed to coustomise your Realm with mods, older versions, or even datapacks, is a deal breaker for me.
...
Hypixel isn't an option either, because it's not private, nor coustomisable.

Realms for 10 people is only 60 cents in Turkey
Realms is more for console where you cant just log into a new server to play with friends. you have to make a world that is only active when your online which can be annoying for friends
As someone who plays both Bedrock and Java but mainly and actually has a Bedrock real its actually not bad at all, you can even add experimental stuff to the realm, sl in that version is better than java, apparently
Realms is way more successful on bedrock on consoles. Java Realms does seem silly
i used to own bedrock realms when i was a kid, and it was fun. but that was years ago, before i realised free server hosting existed. ever since then i've just been using aternos.
Aternos is way too slow 😂
It means that only ten people can be on it at once, and a lot of people can join the realm
I tried Shockbyte and after a month of progress they erased the world, but still expected me to pay them. I was done with their crap and moved over to here. Much better knowing i didnt have to pay $16-30 a month for one server, and have a butt-ton of lag.

There’s realms and realms plus.
Realms is you and 2 friends
Realms plus is what you got.
My only complaint is that realms is only you and 2 other people, why not you and 5 other friends? Realms plus has too much for what I need, and realms has too little!
It is worth it if you use a Turkish account because then it cost 22 cents a month. It’s a nice simple way to play with friends for really cheap.
Ima just say, when stressing world gen just use spectator, its slower than elytra, ....Until you scroll up on the mouse
this is one of the reasons why essential exists
As someone who cannot possibly live without mods, i will not take this offer
Tbh, realms are only good for bedrock players. Sure you can just do a private world and invite people, but a realm is good when your friends are in different timezones💀Not everyone can join at the same time, so yeah its okay. But in Java? Not recommended. I was in a server (Java) with my bf and his friends and it had 300 mods. Its way more fun than a vanilla world (realm) that cant even handle any mods lmao
Are there other ways to make servers for Bedrock without Realms?
The tutorials I've been looking so far are from Java
