Had an eye-opening experience with Abie Olajuwon. I was on a flight to Seattle and noticed what I thought was a college basketball team. I inquired of the woman next to me who I had no idea was a Connecticut Sun assistant coach. I never heard of the Sun or even knew one of my favorite ballers all-time Hakeem even had a daughter named Abie. Abie said 'We are the Sun on our way to our next game.' She boasted about beating the LA Sparks and seemed quite full of herself. I googled them. I said 'Wow, I am getting that feeling I got when I sat near the floor within 10 feet of Kobe Bryant.' Abie became snooty and said ' hardly, he wasn't nice and had character problems.' I was shocked she would say this. I used my Obama learned skills and remained calm and respectful but it was difficult. The rank ignorant cluelessness in not understanding or possibly caring you are an ambassador for the ratings starved, fan starved, money starved WNBA throwing shade at one of the greatest ballers ever is terrible for the league of beggers. Kobe whose hard earned popularity as well as her father and other NBA ballers allows the NBA to keep the Woman's Snoozefest Association known as the WSFA afloat. When a possible fan who would have followed the Suns and spread the word is trying to compliment you personally and the WNBA you throw shade on a great family man who invested his time with his daughters and supported woman's basketball is weird and a holier than thou sense of entitlement. Look in the mirror. I could throw a large rock here but I don't attack great ballers apparently try hard wannabe in and out quick of the leaguers do.

I was a collegiate player, and I also played outside during hoop it up or 3 on 3 tourna!nets came up. I adjusted to the higher rim, to only see that when I went back indoor or to ten feet, the 10 foot rim seemed easier, free throws were lay ups, and 3's were free throws. It was an advantage. So even training ing on 10 foot then back to 9 foot seems to me to give an advantage to the argument that they grow up on 10 foot rims.

I recently tried to get back into it and was disappointed. I can't remember the last time I seen so many missed shots., keep in mind the majority of them were layups. Honestly, it was like a high school game between 2 terrible teams. One girl was just jacking up shots each one less smart than the last. And she's regarded as one of the best in todays game 🤨 I don't know what happened or why the play is so terrible, but something needs to change. Maybe recruiting, coaching, I dunno. But it's sad.

For every year of its existence, the WBNA has had negative profits, a situation that is mitigated by who? Right, the NBA. Men's professional basketball does (and has to) subsidize women's professional basketball for the latter to even continue operating.
The utter hubris of these women, to make demands based on revenue, when their teams and the league as a whole, face a revenue shortfall year after year, covered by the men, is just mind-bending.

The WBNA Players are absolutely ridiculous. It doesnt matter if they feel hurt, no on watching or buying tickets. No one cares. The rim is too high, volleyball has a lower net, CrossFit gives women shorter bars and slightly less weight. What is the eternal issue with lowering the rim? Their game is just sad to watch. I grew up playing hockey. Not all rinks are the same size or have the same dimensions; US hockey, the NHL, and Olympic rinks have all had different dimensions over the years. If you go to a rink with different dimensions, like the one in Champagne, Illinois that was built for the Olympics for example, you can get thrown off a little. For the first few minutes. Then even as a little kid you can adjust. What a ridiculous argument.

💯 woman height on average is shorter, so the court should also be adjusted. Good they have a smaller ball they can palm it better.
So, according to the WNBA, they want to play like men..
What's next NBA is mixed male female or?
So what should happen in athletics, hockey? This dangerous road of thinking is how a man (trans) entered the ufc and cracked HIS opponents skull. Is that fair?
Compare all womans records in every sport to the men. Who is superior? Most woman know this. Most people know this.
Adjusting ring height us beneficial. Being a young organisation it would be nice if they just chilled out a bit. Early basketball, everyone was short white and nobody dunked. Is mugsy brogues not interesting to watch, even though he can't dunk?
It would be nice to see them improve and mature as a league like NBA - they shouldn't rush this. They would probably also play better if they gave way to their pride.
See if they keep it going. Some of those girls definitely have skill. You wanna learn hard though play streetball and hoop with the men, it'll improve your game girls.

This has nothing to do with the height of the basket or size of the ball. NBA fans spend thousands of dollars to watch Steph, Dame, and Kyrie play below the rim. The USA is not interested in women`s professional team sports, period. How great are the ratings for women`s pro soccer? Softball? To be more accurate USA women, are not interested in USA women`s pro team sports. • @dxfifa
      @dxfifa ปีที่แล้ว +3

And even so, women's volleyball at the net is even more exclusionary than the men's game because you gotta be 6'0"+ and super athletic with high reach to even try.
As a man you gotta be about 6'3"+ and decently athletic to have a chance.
It's generally about 0.7% of women who are tall enough and about 3-4% of men. And because the net is only 7 inches shorter, that 0.7% of women need to be more athletic than the men by percentile.
Lowering athletic boundaries to participate really helps the numbers for women
Fact is, way taller people are often clumsy and unathletic. You might end up with 5-10% of women athletic enough, with 30% of men ( who are all in sporting shape, at their peak performance).
      10% of 0.7 is 0.07%.
      30% of 4 is 1.2%
Therefore out of 10000 women, 7 have the physical gifts to play at all. And they have to choose the sport and go through as an adult with actual talent.
For men that number is 120 out of 10000. 17.5 times as many. More men play sports too

I really want someone to ask a WNBA player this hypothetical:
“Let’s say you have two choices: Your rim, your salary, and the league all stay the same as it is now. OR you can lower the rim, your salary triples, AND the league immediately expands to 16 teams. If those are your two choices, which would you pick?”
I want someone to present it to them as a hypothetical binary choice. Lower the rim and have a healthier league or don’t. Force them to expose what their priorities really are.

To be honest, if we put it an anonymous vote strictly from WNBA players, with the results not being made public, I feel it would go through with a near unanimous result for yes.
The caveat is that most of the usual suspects will be complaining publicly that they were forced to do so against their interests.
Returning to the current status quo, the true irony is that the only people who would even give a crap about the current complaints and deterioating direction either would not even watch the games, or are the ones they are constantly blaming and shitting on for existing.
The number of tv personalities, celebs and NBA players giving shout outs (not criticisms) to the WNBA getting outright insulted back afterwards is a bit telling.
I wish them the best for playing a sport they love at a higher level amongst peers, but this just reminds me of the bs with the US women's soccer (football) team.

Our HS girls team were state runner-ups.. Our boys team didn't win half their games. So the talk was the girls would smoke the boys. The girls and most teachers thought so too. Just a note, our principal played at Texas. WE actually had a pep rally and they played a ten minute game. Da boyz won. 42-8. And there were still two minutes left when our principal, Mrs. Jackson, walked out and stopped the game and sent everyone to class.

Facts!! Having said that, this decision needs to be taken out of their hands, altogether. Lowering the rim is the single most doable adjustment they can make to change the game's entertainment value and it will cost them...... NOTHING!!! Imagine that. These women need to put their pride (this is a really stupid sticking point when you think about it) on the shelf and listen to guys like T-Mac, Shaq and others. It's about ENTERTAINMENT VALUE and right now, the WNBA is about as entertaining as the Westminster Dog Show. Kathy Engelbert (or whatever her name is) needs to sit down with the players and tell them this is happening. Until she does that, this league will continue to be unwatchable. To be completely honest, I'm not certain that lowering the rim would do it but it's the best chance they have. The NBA is just farrrr too superior of a product.

If anything wrong or right the players that complain at least get people talking about the league even if it's to point out the wrong opinion of the players. The truth is The WNBA offers the same talent on the level of top men's high school Basketball. Then you have to think about the men's eruo leagues ,men's D-league that offer better Basketball play then The WNBA . I forgot they also have street hoops or 3 on 3 league's trying to get people to watch that have star power behind them , the point is , even if someone is a huge Basketball fan there is already so so much out there. I mean I am a huge NBA fan and I do not watch every regular season game of the team I am a fan of let alone the other teams in The NBA.

It's a result of being subsidised.
Here in Aus we had a similar situation with the WNBL. The WNBL is completely dependant on the NBL for funding. When the WNBL started it was supposed to be a juggernaut, it was supposed to be the premier women's ball game.
Yet today women's netball outperformed them again and again and again and even managed to get their game on FTA TV. (we only have 3 commercial FTA networks in Aus)
Yet the WNBL as had 4 "rescue packages" in that time.

The refusal to lower the rim comes down to one thing: It wasn't their idea in the first place. Men saw the rating going through the floor and offered the idea as a way to help generate crowd appeal. Unfortunately, modern women would rather the league to bankrupt than to accept the change simply because it wasn't a woman's idea. Prove me wrong!

So to say it would mess you up just means you lack the skill set to truly be a great player, and they wonder why no one watches WNBA.

Yeah I was going to say that , we would lower and play legit pick up games at 9 feet because most of us could dunk on a 10 hoop but not well enough to have people do it legit turning pick up games. I would say if anything it's way way harder to like play on a 9 foot hoop and then try and play on a legit 10 foot hoop.

I've played some pickup games on a nine foot rim. It was so much fun. We were all throwing down vicious dunks on each other. It's just their pride that doesn't want to lower the rim, but if they did they would immediately realize it was the right decision.
