This is a perfectly executed strategy. Usually the early laps of a race like this is slow to conserve energy, but making the other skaters forget they are a lap down is the perfect mind game

Because the last lap buzzer goes off with the person in first at the end of the pack. The buzzer goes off and it confuses all the other skaters into thinking they only have one more.

I think this is totally WRONG! The bell ringer waited until she (last place) crossed the line to ring the bell. BUT! - if it's all theirs last lap, it can't be hers. I got to the lead and eased off.. and this was maybe 1/6th of the way through the race and I was so dead and exhausted halfway through I had to practically walk the last 100m.

Hard to understand what exactly was happening since I don't know much about Ice Skating.
So what Yingru did was she quickly completed a lap ahead of everyone and tapped her teammate who was behind to let her know (I'm thinking the reason she was also behind was that others don't quickly catch what's going on) then her teammate surged towards the leading pack. So then at the end the bell rang the moment Yingru passed the starting line for her last lap, but then everybody INCLUDING the spectators, commentator thought this was everybody's final lap as they cheered, and so everyone began to sprint towards the finish line and when they got to there they slowed down thinking it was over but Yingru's teammate knew it was wasn't and was the only one who didn't slow down which gave her the edge and she ended up comfortably winning second.

    This was genius .
The first attacker pushed an early lap with better endurance than her partner. After she completed her first go ahead lap she settles in the back to recover and protect the Gold.
Her partner had the more difficult job, which was field control . After receiving the signal from her partner she attacks and moves to the front of the field , not as a earnest move to compete but in an attempt to disorientate the rest of the competition by purposely slowing down and simultaneously forcing other teams to reposition and allowing her teammate crucial recovery time.
Then the final lap. Only the Chinese were mentally prepared for the double single for the last lap to begin and the Gold medalist to cross the finish line seconds apart. Giving the Chinese competitor a final psychological advantage over the rest of the field .
    10/10 strategy

Even though I knew she won and yet I was still confused who finished first. 😂

By this trick, she didn't need to try keeping 1st position, but she just needed to keep the last position 😂😂❤

That was absolutely amazing. So innovative and well executed. I don't think other Skaters paid attention which Chinese skater was the one who lapped

My favorite part was the “last lap” everyone thought they would win lol

It doesnt seem like the main thing in the strategy is that everyone forgets that she lapped them, its that literally noone does anything to prevent her from lapping them

Yang doesn't need this strategy to win the gold medal. The strategy was to secure the silver medal for the other Chinese skater

*Chilling in the back watching other people compete for the other medal spots must have been very satisfying for her lol 😅🤣🤣🤣! She was skating casually in the back while going fast lol 🤣🤣🤣! What a cool move!*

wait hold up...not only did this strategy secure gold, but it won silver too?!?! the key to the entire strategy was the silver skater. imagine the coach deciding which skater would go and which would stay in the pack. they key to the silver was going at the bell, then going again after the other racers thought the race was over. amazing stuff. mad respect.

Love the fact that when they get the bell for last lap they don’t realise it does not apply to them, then they fight for the line on the wrong lap allowing the other Chinese skater (who knows they still have another lap to do) to easily pick up silver.

The bell should have rung with everyone else having 2 laps to go! The bell gets run when the athlete that is in first place crosses the line first (which she did with 1 lap to go for her but 2 laps to go for them)!!! LOL!

2:35 In this 'false' finish, the skater at the bottom of the screen actually fell due to overstretching her foot 😂
2:57 The front-most skater was the skater who previously fell, thus at this point she was still sprinting to finish her race. The 2 skaters behind her already completed their race, yet seeing the (previously fallen) skater still sprinting, they blindly followed suit as well.

It was a team work. Well done china. One secure gold and other one secure silver. U can say one sacrifice gold for both gold and silver.
