I have the same problem with my 1st gen axiom and I've found a simple solution. Don't buy M-Audio.

@@FTropper I bought a Behringer MOTOR 61 in November to replace my dying Axiom. It malfunctioned from the start so I sent it back and they replaced it with an identical one so I sent that back and I still don't have a refund. I've gone back to using my Axiom. At least it's no longer sending spurious MIDI data to my DAW. Things were better when people played real instruments, especially the music.
