For my 10th birthday in 1961 my grandmother took me to see Brenda Lee in Macon Missouri. She was part of Red Foley's Jubilee. Different groups got up and sang their hit songs, however Red Foley introduced her and everyone was amazed because she was so much louder and had the distinctive 'gravel' voice, all from this little 4' 9" girl. I went up to get her autograph and she said, "Hi and its nice to meet you." I was tongue tied and just stared at her (star struck). My favorite song was 'All Alone Am I' that came out a couple of years later.
Look, she is fully clothed with a normal fitting dress. She does a little demur dance only and belts out of a truly astonishing singing voice, pure talent multiplied by a million. No gimmicks, just pure Brenda Lee. One of the greatest singers of all time.
Only 4 feet nine and 15 years old She well deserved her nickname Little Miss Dynamite. She sang her first big hit Rocking around the Christmas tree when she was only 13. Still one of the most popular Christmas songs. She had 37 chart hits in the 1960s and her sales were surpassed only by Elvis the Beatles Ray Charles and Connie Francis. She is now 77 and living an active life in Nashville. Happy Christmas Brenda
She got that nickname because she sand a song called "dynamite" which gave her the nickname. Years later, it would be a young little Michael Jackson for my time.
I remember when I was little my Dad got me hooked on Brenda's music he had a bunch of her 45s I miss my Mom and Dad very much my memories of of having all that precious time with ❤my parents will be with me forever
Fantastic voice and style at only 14 years of age, Brenda delighted audiences young and old and the great thing is she still does to this day. Thanks for the posting!! God bless Brenda and her family.
First saw Brenda Lee when she was a young child on the Red Foley show. Had the pleasure of meeting her in Cincinnati back in 1970 and told her about seeing her on Ted's show. She started laughing, gave me her autograph and spent a few minutes chatting. Great entertainer and a fabulous singer!!!
My late mother's all-time favorite singer. I got to interview her twice when I worked at an oldies radio station. Treated Mom to a concert in the late 1990s at a casino in Connecticut. Love Brenda Lee!
By 1960 she'd already been singing publicly for maybe 10 years. She practically invented the vocal singing inflections you have heard Elvis and Buddy Holly emulate (which are unique to rockabilly) when she was barely out of her diapers.
Saw the title of this post...can't wait for Brenda Lee. She had a voice ....wow. turns the clock back to the late 50's. Yep I was in high school and danced to this.. 🎶💕🎶
The 'British invasion' had a horrific influence on a previously straight-laced and moral younger generation...soon gone were the suits and dresses, along with respectable behavior.
I'm English, Brenda was a huge star here and my teenage soulmate. A big regret is never seeing her live onstage, as I did many UK and US stars of that special era. The time has gone but the music lives on, thank you NRRAchives for this precious footage. Memories are precious.
At the young age of 16 my partner, Mark Hutchinson and i, billed as The Two Teens, appeared with the "Stars Of Tomorrow" show presented by Tony Grant. " This in Atlantic City. Our first week there was opposite the Everly Brothers, and then the fantastic Brenda Lee. Knowing where her limo entered from the boardwalk, i waited patiently and sure enough, she came rolling in, window down, and gave me a big smile and wave! A moment i will cherish forever. Long live Brenda lee! Joe Seddon, band leader of The Sterling Bros, Plymouth Rock and You Tube musician.
This is great..it's better than the other clip of her singing "Sweet Nothins'" that is usually shown. She sang "Sweet Nothins'" and "I'm Sorry" both penned by the great Ronnie Self. Both were huge hits for her! Her book about her life "Little Miss Dynamite" is a must read. Thank you for including this video for her fans.
I grew up listening to this song along with tons of late 1950’s songs at my grandparents house ever since I was a toddler. Then in 2013 Kanye West sampled Brenda’s vocals for a whole new generation, so people would be looking back at this kinda music even more. Sadly my grandfather is no longer alive, but he introduced me to some great catchy timeless tunes. :)
Brenda Lee, "Little Miss Dynamite" was one of the first girl singer's from the early "Rock & Roll" years to become a true super star. I remember seeing her at age 13 on The Ed Sullivan Show. She's still preforming and draws sellout crowds. After close to 60 years Brenda is still an Icon and Legend in the history of "Rock & Roll".
This more than makes up for all the songs of today... Thanks God for TH-cam, Brenda, Dick Clark, and all involved from Nashville in making that recording. Good music is alive and well here!
I only remembered her as a kid growing up, for that song Rockin Round The Christmas Tree. About 20 years before my mom passed away, she came over to my dads (they divorced) & mom had an extra ticket to go see Brenda Lee & didn't wanna make the drive & go alone, so she asked me to go. So we went & there on stage stood this tiny gal decked out in a gold sequined dress with her hair jacked to Jesus & I gotta tell ya, she was without a doubt the most AMAZING beautiful gal I ever seen. And that voice even to this day STILL knocks me on my ass. How can such a powerful voice come from such a tiny little gal like Brenda? Looking back on that experience I can truly say, boy am I ever glad mom asked me to go. Allot has changed since then. Mom, dad, & my only brother are now gone, while Brenda & her amazing voice is still here. And I found myself collecting Brenda's cd's too. But still, nothing will ever compare to that one special night me & mom had, watching this amazing talent on stage. That little gal really packs a WALLOP!!! She is simply put, an AMAZING TALENT & A BEAUTIFUL LADY!!!
+Ashley Ashbee Thanks. Yea, Brenda Lee is an amazing talent. I watched a dvd concert of her on New Years Eve. I watched ALLOT of concerts to ring in the new year. Shania Twain, Wynonna, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Linda Ronstadt, & Suzi Quarto. Now THAT'S ringing in new year in grand style!!!
That is a GREAT story! I don't know if you are male or female (MALE I THINK!) but it is clear Brenda Lee had such a massive impact on you and it gladdens my heart to know it. And Rockin' Round The Christmas Tree is in my top 3 Xmas records of all time. Gotta check and see if Brenda is still strutting her her stuff or if she has retired.
Yep, she is amazing, esp with her raspy voice...love it...Cher had it, too...and, the songs were about life n relationships...still listen to these kind of songs....i just call them "oldie but goodies"...or, Sweet Nothings"...enjoy...😌

What a wonderful singer Brenda Lee was in the 1950’s & 60’s. This was a marvellous recording.
Dick Clark said it, one of the most talented teensters in the country.
I would whole heartily agree.
