Man, let me tell you. 1. I was babysitting my "step grandson" (his mom is Venezuelan) and when it was time to bathe him I'm looking up down and to the next century for a washcloth. I finally asked him where is his washcloth and he says he doesn't have one🤨 Like how am I supposed to wash his little man parts and butt with no cloth? @queenroyalty7550 There's no bacteria issue when you're supposed to be changing them every day. If you couldn't find a washcloth to bathe the child with why didn't you improvise with some old clothing rags to make your own?
I’m white, grew up using a washcloth and at 63, I’m STILL using a washcloth! It’s not a white/black thing, it’s not a rich/poor thing, it’s a “I’ve gonna get my a$$ clean! thing!!
You took the words out of my mouth, my thoughts exactly. Come to think of it I had a boyfriend one time & he didn't use one OMG I had a Nasty Ass boyfriend ewwww..🤮 I can laugh about it now 😂
One of my shipmates(white New Englander)asked me the same thing. He told me that he used a bar of soap to get a lather thinking that was good enough, basically.

Exactly we use 4 washcloths to be exact! And never use the same clothes more then once we take them straight way to the laundry to be washed after the one time bathing. There’s a process how to use a wash cloth but we use them indeed
Before I became a nurse I was a CNA and we were trained to wash our patience with a washcloth from head to neck to torso, privates legs, and feet in that order. And as a nurse now, I can’t even imagine having a patient not be washed with a washcloth. Am I gonna go in there and wash them with my bare hands I don’t think so.
As a Boomer, I was raised using one for my body & another for my face. (Don't want to be washing sleep off my eyelids with the same stinky cloth I used on my kitty kat & smelly butt!) Around 1979, I lived in a college dormitory where we had group male or female showers. I was very shocked to learn that most of my classmates (who were White) did not use washcloths! I think I may have helped some friends to understand that you just can't effectively clean bacteria, dislodge dirt, or exfoliate dead skin, etc. by rubbing soap around with your hands, no matter how briskly. It was definitely a cultural divide back then. However, I'm very happy to read in these comments that it is now commonplace that many Whites also use washcloths & raise their families to do so.
You must be able to get rid of bacteria with soap and water because otherwise doctors/surgeons would have to use washcloths on their hands. I agree exfoliating is definitely better with a cloth, but I don't think everyone cares about that.
I’ve always used a wash rag in the bath. I’ve noticed over the years a lot of men don’t, they just do the rub the soap all over the body thing. I really think skin needs a wash rag scrub down daily to exfoliate a little.
I am a 66 y.o. white woman. As far back as l remember, my entire family uses wash cloths. The rich ones, poor ones, white ones, mixed ones. We start using them on babies. That woman was wrong, wrong, wrong.
Yesss! I'm white & Ive always used a wash cloth!! My Hubby, when I met him, he never used a washcloth!! I was shocked, he used bar soap, he was raised that way, there was 8 kids & they were poor, so it's a poor thing! Since then I found other people that was raised up really poor with several siblings that didn't use wash cloths.😮
@@kc6810 I wash my hands several times a day. I don't bath as many times. When shower I use a wash cloth it scrubs my body. I'm glad soap and water gets you clean.
I mean.. while the wash cloth conversation seems relatively recent, how many of us know it’s been understood for centuries that Sally and Chip are foul creatures 🙋🏾♀️🫢🤢✋🏾
Really? And they are still alive? From the way people are talking here I thought people there would not live to be 10 and their stench would be smelt all the way in Europe and North America
My Dominican friend in high school used her underwear to wash herself and then hand washed them again and hung to dry. My Haitian friend’s mom was confused when I stayed over and asked for a wash cloth…she handed me a large towel and a hand towel…but no wash cloth. Different cultures different methods…
I'll just say this...I've been in 5 and 5+ star hotels all over this country and on 4 other continents, and I've NEVER walked into a hotel bathroom and NOT found washcloths! They're there to be used!
Yes it is and to think your booty and coochie is clean from just rinsing it of with soap is just nasty 😩. I know what I never would be doing with a person who don't wash between there legs.
I wouldn’t be without a flannel- it’s what we call them. But Face Cloth seems to be the latest. A lovely warm press against my face to rinse off my gentle homemade soap. And yes great in the shower. But into the wash after a full body usage. They help to remove dead cells as well. You Go Girl! What’s it got to do with “poor people” one wonders 🤔. Love your snazzy hairdo - so beautifully shaped and frames your expressive face 😊
I'm so glad my experiences have allowed me to look at things differently, I use white for my face, colors for the rest., I taught one of my other race BF in the past.😢
You haven't lost your mind. I use washcloths everyday. As a woman, I was taught to use a washcloth at an early age. My parents and grandparents didn't play about hygiene or education.
You can do it both ways. If you are really dirty better usa the washcloth. But if you are only taking a shower the third time that day, no need for washcloth.
Right. I use a new terrycloth washcloth everyday (not the same 1) for my body and a separate one for just my face (microfiber). I also use white rags just to see the dirt come off and be sure I’m clean.
I use multiple wash cloths to clean my body. About 60 years ago, a doctor told me grandmother to use one wash cloth for the face and a separate cloth for the body. He never said don't use wash cloths. The use of a wash cloth is NOT a poor people thing, it's a hygiene thing.
Wash cloths always... Actually I use two -- A general one for my body, AND one for the private parts. I can't even imagine someone not washing with a cloth! 🙄
I've never heard that in my whole entire life and I am 61 years old from white, black or any other nationality. I use wash cloths, yes to get into those spaces. How she???? Never mind.
Very true!!! This is something I've noticed with my ex. I was 34 she was 48. And I explained that you can get a closer clean and exfoliate the crevices better. After that I didnt see anymore flakes of dry/dead skin on her face. I asked her what did she do to her face she told me she started using a washcloth instead of using her loofah. This video caught me by surprise. I didn't know they looked at it that way. That's crazy, but true.
I get it. I started using gimmicky poofs, sponges and new school loofahs. By chance at a hotel, I used an old school wash cloth again and was like wow. Think the others don't really lather up like cloths, so think that's the difference.
You’re not losing your mind, I use a wash cloth for body and a separate one for face. It’s definitely not a poor thing, that’s a wild statement right there!!!
The kicker really is is that plenty ppl can't afford not to buy some. They've got washcloths at the dollar sto. N technically you can use whatever material you choose if you bout it. A cut up bath towel could yield you 20 rags.😂😂😂
White lady here. We used washcloths as a kid. I switched to the mesh scrubby thing until I learned that if you don't bleach or switch it weekly, then you are applying a ton of unhealthy bacteria. Went back to washcloths immediately. That was over 20 years ago. I love having a fresh one every day
It's the same with washcloths. You should use white washcloths & towels that you can bleach. Most people don't know that skin & bacteria get caught in the fibers, and it's very difficult to get it out of items that you can't bleach. I didn't know this until about 15 hrs ago when I read it on the CDC website. But yes, to washcloths. I faithfully use the African loofah (net material), too. I have a bunch of them, so tossing them in the wash is not a problem. I love using them for exfoliating and blood circulation.
They're not like us. This question was on the breakfast club 1 morning. Washcloths are how you get dead skin off your body, but alot of people don't use them. Dr Oz was on there 1 day too saying its wrong to wash off chicken & other meat before you cook it. 😮 He said cold water will only spread salmonella all over your kitchen. He said take the meat out of the package, put it in a cooking container and turn the heat to at least 350°. The heat kills the germs. 😮wtf? They're not like us. But it takes different strokes to move the world.
There's a lot of people like this and it's crazy because I think or I hope once society pops into their life cuz it seem like they're dumbfounded and blankly and really be thinking that they are the ones doing stuff right Good thing with social media now cuz they can see the way you've been living and how you think is way off and it's a no-no especially with this one
...and she's nasty. Çleanliness is spiritual and physical physical, by any means necessary... clean washcloth, clean loofah, or clean African sponge. Your body is a temple...honor God with your body. 🧽🧼
Lmbao ''Hey'' bro yeah you right that's what it means filthy rich she will use a cloth to wipe the table but won't use it to wipe that dirty tail wow wee wow wee umm,umm,umm....
I had a white friend who said that to me. I asked her “do you have a wash cloth I can use to take a shower with” she said “I’m white, we don’t use those things babe” lol 😂 can’t make this up! I believe you!!! 😭😭
White lady here. I use a washcloth and so does all my family. All the other options are good to exfoliate but the delicate body parts need a softer material. Also, I now use microfiber washcloths, not cotton. They stay fresher. Once the cotton ones get smelly it’s too hard to get that unpleasant smell out.
You use a cloth to clean your kitchen, your car, your bathroom, your desk at work.....pretty much everything. How some people think you don't need one to clean yourself is beyond me.
@@amygresl3691yes ma'am, that's the best way to blast all the oils, sweat, and XYZ off is with detachable shower head but even if you don't have that option - 💯 washcloth! Maybe they don't understand the concept of using it once and then washing in the machine 🤷🏻♀️..that may be the ideology behind it that they don't understand and the more I think about it the more it sounds like people I know who think a bar of soap 🧼 is self sanitizing. Spoiled ignorance? 🤷🏻♀️ Sounds about right 😆 oh well, F 'em let them get their UTI and yeast infections and then wonder how it happened! 😂
I use what I just call a rag to clean all that stuff. Washcloth is for the body, only. Wouldn't want to wash myself with a rag that I've cleaned something else with.
I use 3 wash clothes 1 for face, 1 for body & separate one for feet.when I use the shower puff I only use for body don’t use it between legs or on feet
You are not wrong. I use more than one for different parts of the body. Also as a woman I have, I have light pastel colors to be able to see the dirt coming off, I use the different colors to keep them from getting mixed up in the shower and the washing machine. My family has their own sets arranged by colors as well. We DO NOT WASH our socks, underwear, bath towels, or clothes together. We each have our designated laundry day during the week. 30 days worth of towels so you are not reusing the same towels, underwear, and socks over and over again. It is an investment but it is worth it in the long run… we barely get skin irritations or sick. Oh an my guest get brand-new towels, and they take them with them when they leave. Just get linens when they are on sale. I never miss a beat. 😅💛 The Laundry Czar 😅💛
This made me laugh.. because when I was waxing vaginas the rich Karen’s were the stinky ones.. and they had NO SHAME. Not saying others didn’t occasionally smell but the Karen’s smelled the worst One told me one time “i just came from a jog you’re in for a treat” Girl no I’m not! I’m about to put this Vicks in my mask 😵💫🤣 I’m Latina and I use washcloths too.. I did grow up poor and they say washcloths are a “poor” thing but I don’t even care lol I feel clean . Loofahs harbor bacteria and just washing with your hand doesn’t do anything so that’s fine I’ll be poor and clean 😂
It has nothing to do with color. Many people don't use a wash cloth on their face because cosmetic companies say not too. I'm white and I wouldn't know what to do without a wash cloth. One for my face and one for my body . A lot of people use a cloth glove.
They say that even after washing them there is still bacteria (ecoli = fecal matter) left on them. Still, I think I'll continue taking my chances with them. 🤷🏾♀️🤭
When you don’t see yourself as needing to be cleaned. When you still see the white on your skin when you’re in the shower. You are disillusioned in believing the grime is not there!
That's what my grandmother called them. Tater, tomater, and her father was a traveling school teacher in the late 1800's to early 1900's. She was born in 1905 and passed in 1993. miss my grandma.
I'm black. I don't use a wash cloth, I use a glove. I find it gets into nooks and crannies easily and I don't worry as much about it storing bacteria since it's a synthetic fibre. I know just how absorbent cloth (especially cotton) is, as I cloth-diaper my baby. But diapers only get used once before they get a thorough hand wash, plus a machine wash with an extra rinse cycle. For something that I'm going to quickly hand wash after every shower, I prefer plastic fibres that won't absorb anything. I also don't use traditional sponges for washing dishes, for the same reason. I use wash brushes or dishwasher-safe abrasive plastic sponges. Unpopular opinion, I know, but that just feels safest to me.
I use two wash clothes, otherwise known as flannels, here in the UK. One for the face one for the body. When it's time to clean them, they go in with the towels on the hottest wash. I have also got loads of them to change regularly. What's poor about using wash clothes? I am clean, that's all I know.
I use a wash rag. I start with my face, and move down. I have eczema, and loofahs are horrible for it because they hold on to bacteria, so the bacteria gets into the dry cracked areas and can cause a serious infection. Plus, nothing works at getting dry, dead skin off better than a wash rag.
Yup, ive never ever used washcloths. Tbh theyre the right size for me to use them as rags to wash my floors, dusting, n other household cleaning jobs. I know other ppl do use them for their bodies but i understand wer all different n hv various needs for different things. The only bodily use i hv found them to be convenient for is washing off waterproof mascara. Im a 51 yr old basic white woman who just used loofahs mostly.
As a white woman I use washcloths and everyone in my family uses them, but I know people who don’t. Now the reason I think she said a poor person thing is because people started using those loofahs and it was like you had to buy a new one multiple times a year. And I think that some people believe that soap has enough chemicals to strip the dirt and grime off but they aren’t thinking about the skin cells and everything else. Washcloths are the way to go. And the cheaper they are the better they work. Those soft ones don’t do squat compared to a good cheap wash rag lol
It's true! My ex didn't use one, he was Caucasian too. When we married I kept wondering why there was only 1 wash cloth in the bathroom all the time - my wash cloth. So I asked him one day "baby are you bathing, or how are you bathing because I noticed you not using any wash cloths." He told me he rubs the soap on his body... 👀😮. Babyyyyy we had a lonnngggg talk! I explained to him that he needs to use a wash cloth to run off the dead skin & bacteria, rubbing is not going to get all the dirt off. 😂😂😂 I was literally in shock! And now that I see this video, it's concerning me that other people really do this!
South African here. You telling me there are people that don't use washcloths?? How do you clean the delicate places without one? She said eww to using a washcloth? I say eww to NOT using one! I know some poor people and some very rich people, and let me tell you, EVERYBODY uses a washcloth.
So true. I'm poor, my grandmother was rich. I use washcloths. So did she her entire life. She just used much thicker and nicer ones than me. 😂 I shop at Walmart for my washcloths. She hated that store.
No you are NOT loosing your mind. I honestly think just using hand and soap doesn't necessarily get you clean enough. And then there is that 1 spot.... On your back. Where your hands don't reach. 😊
And that's why we as black folks age gracefully, in my opinion. Cause a washcloth exfoliates and removes not only dirt, grime and oils. But also the dead skin that sheds.
And that's why we the poor white folks age gracefully as well. Not because of genes or the certain country our ancestors came from no no. But because of a washcloth, it exfoliates, removes the dead and dirty skin which turned brown from a hard days work out in the fields. Here's to washclothes, why else were they invented.
Exactly! That's the new insult they are using. They have been showing people say that across social media and they are all white people who are saying it. That's them trying to see if they can get people to follow not using one. Social media is a psychological experiment and the majority of people are following and doing everything that they are promoting for them to do. They are watching to see how many and who
As a white person- I do not accept this behavior or practice of not using a wash cloth, and denounce such foolishness. Lol I have used wash cloths my whole life. My question to your friend is (Ma’am how are you washin and CLEANINNNN yo azzzz!??)
I use two washcloths. What the lady told you she f do ids doesn’t actually clean her skin. It’s like people using hand sanitizer on their hands. It is better than nothing, but to really clean your skin, friction is needed too. That’s why surgeons “scrub up” before putting on gloves before surgery. It’s also why nurses wash their hands before and after touching each patient (they should wash for at least a minute, even if they use gloves.
I'm a 75 year old white lady. I have always used washcloths. For my face, for my body. Also, I never share my soap, not even with my husband. I was told this by my dermatologist over 60 years ago.
I don't share soap. I don't even like to have soap in my bathroom for hand washing for multiple people. I like to keep the dispenser soap. I was not raised that way and my immediate family was very clean and healthy, so there were not any problems, but everyone was not raised the same.
I use a pumice stone for soles of feet but be sure to let them sit in bleach after each use. Or use 3% Hydrogen peroxide …if the stone foams up that’s bacteria present and it’s killing it
I agree - I have these rough washcloths that get all the dry dead skin - exfoliate- off my body. The friend needs to know when she ages, exfoliating is a must or her skin will look awful. 🤷🏼♀️
Exactly it is not a "poor person thing", it's a clean person thing. 🤣 I use a scrubby cloth to exfoliate and a wash cloth for the sensitive areas. My Mom uses a wash cloth for everything, more than I do. 😁❣️❣️🤣
Im white/ Swedish but always and will forever use wash clothes - I know my skin be smooth as hell after washing then using that coconut cream/ cocoa butter/ Nivea ( one of them ) afterwards
I had a dermatologist tell me not to use them due to the high bacterial growth. She recommended a natural sponge since it doesn’t hold bacteria. She said loofahs were ok but needed to be changed every month. 🤷🏻♀️ I used to use them all the time though. With my body scrubs.
THANK YOU for calling it a CLOTH and NOT a RAG. CLOTHS are for PEOPLE's Faces and Bodies. RAGS are for THINGS (dishes, counters, motor oil, monthly flow). WHY would you EVER put something deemed a RAG on your FACE or BODY?
They way grandma taught me: One washcloth per shower. Shampoo and rinse hair. Condition hair and leave in. Wash face, ears and neck. Rinse hair, face, ears and neck. Wash arms, hands, chest, stomach, upper and lower back. Wash private area. Wash upper and lower legs then feet. Wash rear-end. Btw. We was poor and she hand washed our cloths for many years. Fed us mostly from the garden and had a stock pile of food she jarred. She raised her five sons and two daughters and myself on very little income. We'll, they all helped raise me but grandma was the foundation and strength of the family. Strongest woman I've ever met.
Washcloths are great but then should be changed out & cleaned/sanitized often. I use a *new* cloth for every shower, rinse them out & set aside for a long *bleach soak* and then I *boil* 🌡️🔥 them in a huge pot of hot water for at least 20 to 30 mins & then throw them in the laundry. The key to using washcloths is keeping them super clean & hygenic for use
I use 2 washcloths. One for the face, One for body.

Exactly we use 4 washcloths to be exact! And never use the same clothes more then once we take them straight way to the laundry to be washed after the one time bathing. There’s a process how to use a wash cloth but we use them indeed
Wash cloths slough the dead skin off of your body… it’s not just for sick old or poor people!😮
@helenbuford9030 Are you saying that you only use them to wash other people? Like you don't use them yourself?
Before I became a nurse I was a CNA and we were trained to wash our patience with a washcloth from head to neck to torso, privates legs, and feet in that order. And as a nurse now, I can’t even imagine having a patient not be washed with a washcloth. Am I gonna go in there and wash them with my bare hands I don’t think so.
As a Boomer, I was raised using one for my body & another for my face. (Don't want to be washing sleep off my eyelids with the same stinky cloth I used on my kitty kat & smelly butt!)
Around 1979, I lived in a college dormitory where we had group male or female showers.
No ma'am you have not lost your mind.

That doesnt make sense. Why was she using a loofah if it wasnt exfoliating her skin?
I get it. I started using gimmicky poofs, sponges and new school loofahs. By chance at a hotel, I used an old school wash cloth again and was like wow. Think the others don't really lather up like cloths, so think that's the difference.

The kicker really is is that plenty ppl can't afford not to buy some. They've got washcloths at the dollar sto. N technically you can use whatever material you choose if you bout it. A cut up bath towel could yield you 20 rags.😂😂😂
😂
They say that to justify their reasoning for not using them. It must make them feel better about uncleanliness.

Im white/ Swedish but always and will forever use wash clothes - I know my skin be smooth as hell after washing then using that coconut cream/ cocoa butter/ Nivea ( one of them ) afterwards
Wash clothes for life. Cleanliness is a virtue
Grandma was a legend! Raising you in a priceless way!!!! 💕
Praise Jesus Christ! HALLELUJAH AND AMEN!!!
Yep. I wash like grandma, except I wash my bits and pieces last
Agree except switch the order of rear end and feet. New cloth every shower.
Sounds just like my gran 😊
Why do people think stores sell washcloths and matching towels? Washcloths are the original exfoliators
Thank you!
I came here to say this! ❤
They’re useful for your body. Doctors don’t recommend for ladies’ intimate wash.
White lady here, yes I use a wash cloth for my face and a sponge for my body...you are not alone..🌻
