Marsalis calls this "Buddy Bolden's Blues". For this purpose I have labeled the video as such. If you want to hear him play "Thought I Heard Buddy Bolden Say" click here: th-cam.com/video/iUwILC0nOWM/w-d-xo.html
There are always gd old tales about these classics and I think Bunk Johnson gave this melody as an example of playing New Orleans jazz and said jazz is making runs , musical runs , lovely tune to play though regardless of tempo
This melody is not "Buddy Bolden's Blues". It comes from a recording made by Bunk Johnson in 1943 where he demonstrates Bolden's style. Bunk calls it "Making Runs".
It is the tune called 'Making Runs' that Bunk Johnson hummed when he was recorded talking about his memories of the music Bolden played. It is based on chords very similar to those of 'Bill Bailey'.
BUDDY BOLDEN BLUES: sung by Jelly Roll Morton (Ferdinand La Menthe) , goes like:" I thought I heard Buddy Bolden say, your dirty, your awfull, take it away..."

the way he sings through at 1:56 is still some of the best trumpet sound ive ever heard
Don't get me wrong, Wynton sounds great in this, but I can't help but notice how clean and full the tuba's tone is even in this soft of a style
1:28 = WOW, pure genius!! hence the applause...!!
