People tend not to think about R&B being a band, even when it’s a band. For every era of rock, there’s a black band on the charts killing everyone that nobody includes in the discussion.
Think Isleys in the 60s, Funkadelic or EWF in the 70s, Mint Condition or the Time (or the Revolution or NPG) in the 80s, and so on…

@@mrmaxxx94 I'm wondering if given time, they might be though. If you look at Bruno's songs over time, there is some range. But also, we were used to having interesting music like Steely Dan on the radio back then but Silk Sonic has to meet the audience where they are and gradually bring them up from mumble rap and autotune to an appreciation of all the musicianship Silk Sonic could potentially unleash, so tunes are around 3 minutes with a creative music video (and humour!) to keep the attention of an audience that grew up on 6 second Vines and now has TikTok shorts. Steely Dan was pretty much pre music video so we possibly had a longer listening attention span back then.

Love Adam's comments about live drummers moving the air and making the rest of the band sound better. I wonder if there's some real physics there, kind of like how priming a gong with light taps before banging on it brings a brighter, fuller tone.

I saw them twice. Correction. I experienced the absolute best concert I've ever been to, twice. First time I saw them was their 2nd weekend and the 2nd time was the end of May. Both Saturday shows and their 2nd show was actually better than the 1st which amazed me. The setlist didn't change but their interpretations of the songs were a little different especially the intro. Here's the entire setlist.
    Silk Sonic Intro
    777
    Skate
    We Took Your Phones Away
    Love's Train
    (Con Funk Shun cover)
    Fly as Me
    That's What I Like
    (Bruno Mars song)
    Am I Wrong
    (Anderson .Paak song)
    Treasure
    (Bruno Mars song)
    Everybody Loves the Sunshine
    (Roy Ayers Ubiquity cover)
    Smokin Out the Window
Put on a Smile / Make It Better / When I Was Your Man
    After Last Night
    Come Down
    (Anderson .Paak song)
    Runaway Baby
    (Bruno Mars song)
    Pure Imagination
    (Gene Wilder cover)(Guitar Solo)
    Blast Off
    Encore:
    Leave the Door Open

I love this channel SO much! An Evening with Silk Sonic is probably one of my favourite albums in the last few years.
A couple songs I think would be awesome for you to react to: The Pot - Tool, Josie - Steely Dan, Sunny - Boney M.
Midsummer Madness - 88rising, Lingus - Snarky Puppy, Time Alone with You - Jacob Collier
A nice diverse selection to pick from.

33:18 - LOL at the subtitles. Neely says, "Wagner wrote for Bayreuth," and the subtitles say, "(indistinct) wrote Babe Ruth." 😄 To be fair, though, can't really fault the transcriber for not getting yet another esoteric Neely reference. 😊

Saw SS this past weekend, and can say that Bruno + Anderson are just too powerful together. It’s OP. You’ll have no chance to sit down because EVERY single number is performed so well, and the vibe is just too fun. Everyone dance throughout the whole 90mins.

One interesting thing I read is a fascinating branding move. Because Bruno is a bigger mainstream star and known more as a vocalist, they have “rules” in place to make sure it’s perceived as a band and the two of them are equals. For instance, apparently there is an agreement that Anderson is only playing an instrument if Bruno is playing one in the same setup. In the video for Leave the Door Open, Bruno is behind a keyboard. In Skate, Bruno is on bongos. It’s brilliant. In live shows, they go for the old school vocal group approach. Otherwise, you run the risk of people who don’t know Anderson thinking they are just Bruno’s new backing band. That perceived equality comes through in the music. Love the video, BTW. Can’t wait to watch more.
