Such good advice, Pastor John. I didn't realize that Sunday church service is designed by God as a spiritual high that is a "weekly special". Your advice as to how to extend the Sunday morning joy and hope through the rest of the week is something I'll try. Thank you.
This is one of the few things I think I have a different perspective then Pastor John has. And it's not so much that I disagree with him, but more that I just have to point out that I have had moments where my private time with the Lord is just as good if not better than corporate worship. There have been several times leading up to Good Friday and Easter where I felt the presence of the Lord in such a way that it made me get on my knees and bow my head to the ground and pray great praises to the Lord while I was by myself, it was dark in the house because it was night, and everyone else in my home was asleep.
So powerful Pastor John your teaching is so complete, I walk a way in amazement thinking he just answered 10 guestions in a short period of time♥God love you for being so beautiful♡
Our joy is short-lived because we seek joy from Church gathering, Sunday service, our acts of worship (music, singing, praising). These can never give us permanent joy. Jesus is our joy (& peace). Peace & joy always go together. Our joy/peace is short lived because it's not based on Jesus. We try to get joy from our actions (just like all the other religions preach) instead of getting the permanent joy that Jesus gives at Salvation. Our joy is based on the finished work of Christ on the cross & the surety of our salvation. 👇 1 Peter 1:8 "Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy," 👇 John 14:27 “I leave my peace with you. I give my peace to you. I do not give it to you as the world does. Do not let your hearts be troubled. And do not be afraid." The word "world" here means all the fleshly efforts that we take. All our Sunday corporate worships are a big waste if it does not come from a heart that has already received joy/peace (which is Jesus & His salvation).
* "Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done." Gen. 2:3" * "And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD." Isa. 66:23 For sure that everyday we shall delight in the Lord our God, and meditate on His words (Deut. 6:4-9); but in His will, saw God to choose a day in which we may delight on him, wich is the seventh day *Sabbath* Saturday : “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy" (Exo.20:8) Love you all in Christ
I find joy fully in the work and the accomplishment of Christ, not in myself. Knowing that your destiny outside of Jesus Christ would have been utter and complete just condemnation in the lake of fire under the wrath of Alighty God for eternality. Yet you have been freed and saved from this destruction of your soul, Christ has already satisfied our deserved punishment, that in Christ there is no condemnation but eternal life in the presents of God. No two realities could be further apart, and yet we have been brought from one into the other.
Your joy should be coming from living under God's Grace, that he does not condemn you and in fact declares you righteous by trusting Jesus to have saved you and rose from the dead. Not from living under the law "I did this sin, I didn't do enough good, I didn't love enough". You being good enough in the flesh did not save you in the first place, thinking now that you are saved by Grace and try to be perfect by the flesh actually robs you of the joy God wants you to have. May God our Father bless you all the more with his unmerited favor, and peace in Christ Jesus our savior and God.
That's so well said. With all the stresses of life I feel i have fallen out of Grace and went back to "earning" God's love. If I love God I should obey Him right? Well then I must not love him. Its horrible. I feel like He is so far and i'm carrying my load on my own. I pray that He keeps my faith until I can get back to that place where His peace used to be my rock. Maybe depression is not letting me think clearly so my emotions get the best of me.
Pastor John I struggle to feel loved by Jesus. My family is not Christian and and I struggle with sins like gossip and complaining. I have come a long way , but I still struggle with the question: how do I know if God is proud of me?
You are loved by Jesus despite your sin! God demonstrated his love toward us even while we were still sinners Christ died for us romans 5:8. When you struggle to feel loved by God, remind yourself of the scripture that says you are loved by God. Read Isaiah 43. If you hate your sin and delight in the law of the Lord, then you are loved by Jesus. Read the end of Romans 7. You shouldn’t be asking the question is God proud of us. Bc according to works, God isn’t proud of us. He is proud in us most when we are proud in him most. What God delights most about us is our delight in Him. Jesus is a the author and the finisher of our faith so look onto him when you feel unloved by God due to repeated sin. God is proud of you because of Jesus’s accomplished work in you. Look to Jesus sister :) Let me know if I didn’t answer your question or you think I might be incorrect in my thinking Blessing to you
Rita Mezic also John MacArthur wrote in his book “saved without a doubt” that “if you grieve or quench the Holy Spirit by walking in the flesh, you short circuit his ministries to you, and you will lack assurance as a result” Meaning if you sin then you are going to feel like you’re not loved bc you’re not listening to and being led by the Spirit. I fell into this for a year. And was just delivered yesterday.
Rita Mezic also, sorry I just keep finding things that may or may not be helpful to you, also consider Hebrew 11:16 “But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.” When we desire Gods heavenly Kingdom over the pleasures of this earth, then God is not ashamed to be called our God.
Charles Stanley has a church in Atlanta. It’s about 45 minutes from me. But since your in the city it’s probably closer for you. He’s a great bible believing pastor.
If you want more and even more understanding try studying the feast s they are not just for the Jews they are God's Feasts and anyone who wants to follow him the Passover coincides with Easter as he is our lamb look into the connection of the feasts. Those following the feasts get weeks of being with Jesus not just Christmas and Easter. And understand Jesus and the apostles all followed the feast s.
Your Joy is short-lived..Because you are not following Jesus Alone and have developed a Correct relationship with HIM. As long as you are listening to the ideas of Men in the bible and Men who regurgitate men in the bible..you will be on shifting sands.
There are Many anti-Joy ideas in the Bible and Men love to scare you with them. Simply obey Gods Commandments and you will have Peace and Joy that comes from Obeying God..and Not listening to the commandments of men as Jesus Told us. 😊❤
How is Sunday Corporate "high" biblical!? I totally disagree with this. This is why we left corporate Church. It's structured on a timeline to generate a feeling of being in God's presence it's all forced the music the lighting the pastor's teaching. I don't like that there's different sermons at Christmas and Easter those are pagan holidays that is not biblical they should not be starry-eyed visits to a church building and you walk out of there and you feel like you're on a high and then the next day you wake up and this dumpster. If you're attending church it should be to keep on growing to be part of teaching and community, and to help new believers get on the right path. The whole creating an atmosphere is false its not real that is not real life and there is nothing in God's word that says that his church is designed that way what that man just said whoever that Pastor has that's not true. That's a man-made thing we are the ones that feel the need to have special lighting special music comfy chairs we need this created atmosphere in order to feel like we are in God's presence and then we are disappointed when we can't create it Monday through Friday and Saturday. We need to be getting into God's word on our own and allowing him to create the atmosphere!
The response is very balanced and biblical. If you get to 6mins and beyond you will hear that Pastor John addresses corporate worship not been an emotional/social/music high but truth high based on Good and his promises, then gives pointers on how to sustain that all week long, ie praying especially for your heart, searching the scriptures daily and abstaining from those things that can bring us down like social media. Scriptural and balanced advice I feel to help us stay in God's presence all week long and not just Sunday
