Hey Hubwood, thanks for the excellent, informative video. Really keen to see a range of Radeon and AMD advantage laptops and this is great. Your commentary with fps test was the most valuable combo for me.
You could make in-depth review for low tier GPUs only. Because it's the low tier segment where people become more picky and wants every juice to squeeze as possible.
Arguably the best price vs performance (and features) on the market right now. Compared to what even 4050 laptops are going for currently, Asus have really knocked it out of the park when it comes to delivering value.
Can barely run anything natively. Even on lowest settings, i couldnt tell this dgpu apart from any other igpu in terms for what they cost. Anyway you can run everything on max with fsr BUT this causes hiccups when shooting, getting shot or theres too many npcs reacting to an explosion for example. But this fsr also gives small input delay when playing. Sucks that games cant optimize well anymore

Hello Hubwood, I really like this new video. It is also impressive that you played several games and in most of them this new monster (ASUS TUF A16 Advantage Edition) runs it like butter. Let´s be honest, just like Hardware Unboxed said, If you run the games in ultra settings is not exactly the best way to play it. As I mentioned before I like this new format, maybe next time you can play games such as Hitman 3, Far Cry 6, Resident Evil 7 or 8 (it will be awesome). Just a tip, when playing Cyberpunk 2077 turn off chromatic aberration and film grain (this settings have a penalty in performance). Cheers to Germany!
@@hawk9135G15 AE has a stronger GPU and has more vram. the cpu is the same because the R9 5980HX and R7 7735HS are both Zen 3. The only bad thing about the G15 AE is you need to replace the ram since the stock one is bad and it has no mux switch

I for one, prefer the longer videos because they give so much more context and nuance than just numbers on a screen. That being said, not everyone has lots of free time to watch the longer videos. In another note, AMD needs to work on the drivers for the 7600S. While it mostly works, the low utilization on some games are just atrocious and needs work. Great GPU though.

I got that laptop ordered, will get it tomorrow. I was going for something budget friendly and I was shocked to see this laptop on sale at the same price as the Lenovo LOQ 15 with R5 7640HS and RTX4050, the laptop I actually ordered and cancelled immediately when I saw the price of A16 😅 The reason why some games in 4K just won't work (even if VRAM is not in full use) is basically the specs of the GPU, it's just not fast enough to handle the load. I remember the same thing when I had 1080Ti in desktop with 11GB of VRAM. 1080p was blazing fast, 1440p was good with little compromises, but on 4K you had to compromise a lot. Same with this one, I don't think anyone expects from RX7600S to pull 4K on highest or even high settings in most graphically demanding games. That's what RX7900 is for and cards north of RTX4070. Still, I am really happy that portable gaming is finally catching up with desktops, as it is especially convenient for people like me, who move around a lot, so that would be a good start and if ASUS brand is gonna convince me to its quality, then in few years I'll go for something bigger. One question I have: during your testing, how did the screen feel? I'm being told it's not the brightest and the quality of it could be better, but since it's all AMD, they should put more effort to it.
@@0DADDYCHILL I bought it for PLN4600 which is equivalent to $1150. I find this price to be great for the specs. One thing though, a wireless card is one of the worst I've ever come across. Avoid everything made by MediaTek. $20 card (AX210NGW) solved the problem for good, so this would be the only thing I recommend to do immediately. This and also tinkering with software a bit, because in default settings AMD Adrenaline and ASUS Armory Crate are kinda fighting with each other, so a bit of adjustments are needed to make it work properly, but now the laptop is amazing.
How is it holding up now, still performing? I love AMD graphics as the control panel is so nice to use. still rocking a 5700xt in my desktop so think this will be a nice transition
My guess as to why laptops aren’t getting 500-600 fps in some games while older desktops can would just be power. The best laptops have ~240w power bricks. Basic desktops have 600-800 watt power supplies. Just a guess though. But with efficiency increases that amd is making it won’t be long before they are very competitive. @@RidwanurRahmanextreme it is certainly quite loud, and I highly recommend getting a stand to allow maximum airflow. The long battery is mainly for productivity and light use, so it is significantly less when in high-intensity gaming. Still, the battery is quite long at around three hours.

Hello. Overall, I liked the format of the video, but I doubt that people have much time to watch it in its entirety (I watched it from beginning to end). I suggest making a video where for example 2 minutes will be allocated for each game and in the background you will comment on how the game works. I especially liked your comments about gameplay and smoothness in this video, they are very helpful in understanding how the laptop works. I offer you an idea for a video: film an overview of a stock laptop and its optimized version (I mean turning off turbo boost on the processor, for example).
What did you use to test hunt showdown? Was it plugged in or off charger? Did you have v sync on and set the screen resolution to 165hz refresh rate? Also did you set the GPU to ultimate mode in armory crate and did you have the cou on performance or turbo mode? Hunt showdown is my favorite game and I have this laptop and was planning to use it to play.

No issues yet but my old aced slowly started running hot just on start up think it’s just age and my was under volted and everything because it thermal throttled hard

I bought Asus A16 with 7600S and Ryzen 7. By comparing benchmark, it is not great, just roughly around the performance of 3060. Though in actual game playing, it runs games smoothly in high setting in QHD monitor. I have tested several games, including Farcry 6 and COD modern warfare, they are run perfectly fine. Given its price, it is a wise choice.

No, it's because there's no need for 200+ FPS anyway. It would only cause higher temperatures and louder fans. Nvidia is using a technology called Max-Q in order to regulate their performance.
Would you recommend buying this laptop? I am currently looking at the asus tuf a16 and the gigabyte aorus xe4 15 (i7 12700h, rtx 3070ti, 16gb ddr4, 1440p). The a16 is €1.499 while the gigabyte is €1.599 I will not be playing the most demanding games. Just want a semi quiet laptop (will be using it in the living room while partner watches tv) and a good screen
Hm tough decision. I think it's a hood laptop. It also has amazing battery run times thx to the Ryzen. And a good screen. And we'll it's 100 bucks cheaper. The gigabyte might be a bit faster in gaming thx to the 3070ti, but will most likely consume a bit more energy. Both have their pros and cons.

@@leemanu94 especially, die on the lower Fan speed modes it's really quiet. The performance can be cut down slightly on silent mode and get you a super silent experience really...
In general possible but it's not really designed for 1440p. You will often need to use FSR or lower resolutions and probably not the higher settings. And the FPS will be of course lower as on 1080p but in general: yeah sure

Yesterday I had a drama with the Asus Tuf FA617 model: when using Photoshop it had an intermittent power-on screen, however, on a desktop that same file does NOT have any problem. TUF FA617 data • AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS Mobile Processor (8-core/16-thread, 16MB L3 cache, up to 4.7 GHz max boost) • AMD Radeon RX 7600S, up to 95W (Smart Shift), 8GB GDDR6 • 16GB DDR5-4800 SO-DIMM I will have to wait several days to send it to service, it has 8 days of use in video editing and graphic design. Has anyone gone through the same problem? I hope NO, it is very unpleasant to be without work for a few days.
The reason why FPS is capped on laptop GPUs is because of power saving reasons. Nvidia calls this technology Max-Q, AMD has something similar too. There's no need for 200+ FPS anyway, it only causes high temperatures and loud fans. Grüße aus Deutschland 🇩🇪👋🏻
MaxQ waren einfach die GPU Versionen mit weniger Power/Watt. Also quasi die Stromspar varianten. Das hat erstmal nix mit einem FPS Cap zu tun ;) 200 FPS verursachen auch nur dann Hitze und Lautstärke wenn der PC dafür an die Grenzen gehen muss ;) bei einfacheren Games muss er das dafür ggf gar nicht 😬 Aber ja, mehr als 200fps machen nur in manchen Fällen Sinn. CS2... Apex... Overwatch etc.
I have recently purchased this laptop and have fount once shut down it takes me a couple attempts to load the laptop back up the keyboard turns on but the display or screen doesn’t, can anyone help or advise a solution
Because some games are more sensitive to clock speed/mhz. Others to vram. Others to the cpu. Others to driver optimization... Alot of reasons :) Also mobile Gpu comparing is never perfect since you usually can't get identical test systems.

This is a great laptop for the price, $750 on Best Buy sale right now. Only reason I wouldn't pull the trigger and get one was 8gb of vram is just not enough for this resolution nowadays. GPU is powerful enough for a good experience on ultra settings but as your tests show you were running out of vram in many games. 12gb of vram is the bare minimum for 1080p gaming. If you had it at the full screen resolution you would have had even more problems.

Plugged in, vsync off, refresh rate is irrelevant performance wise, don't remember the GPU mode in armory crate

My experience really was, that games ran smooth with good frametimes and stable fps. Better than most 4050/4060 Laptops I've tested.

The temperature of the laptop is low, is the test done in a room with an air conditioner? or use another cooler?

Depends on the variant. THIS one has 1920x1200. But there is a second model with a 2560x1600px Screen and a Ryzen 9 7940HS.

Would you recommend buying this laptop? I am currently looking at the asus tuf a16 and the gigabyte aorus xe4 15 (i7 12700h, rtx 3070ti, 16gb ddr4, 1440p). The a16 is €1.499 while the gigabyte is €1.599
I will not be playing the most demanding games. Just want a semi quiet laptop (will be using it in the living room while partner watches tv) and a good screen

I think it's a hood laptop.
It also has amazing battery run times thx to the Ryzen. And a good screen. And we'll it's 100 bucks cheaper. The gigabyte might be a bit faster in gaming thx to the 3070ti, but will most likely consume a bit more energy. Both have their pros and cons.
@@Hubwood Went to a shop to see the screen in real life but the laptop was off so couldn't test the screen lol. How is the noise during gaming? Is it more silent compared to other laptops or equal?
Was impressed with the A16's performance in Anno 1800. 30 FPS in 4k is crazy good
@@leemanu94 especially, die on the lower Fan speed modes it's really quiet. The performance can be cut down slightly on silent mode and get you a super silent experience really...
would u still suggest this one with 7435hs cpu and 7600s gpu at 1440p for gaming and working purposes? :')
In general possible but it's not really designed for 1440p. You will often need to use FSR or lower resolutions and probably not the higher settings. And the FPS will be of course lower as on 1080p but in general: yeah sure
How much better is the rx 7700s version? I assume it could beat 4060? Please respond

to be honest 100w+ on cpu while running games is not normal
thats why this laptop tend to overheating for all the time u running games

I have the same device, but it does not receive the same FBS as there is. Rather, the video responds less on low settings. For example, Fortnite FBS 90-150 in Battle Royale. Why?
Some thing wrong with this. Because GPU WATT is low when compare with CPU. CPU always crossing 100 w whether GPU always stays low
Hello, I recently purchased this same laptop after seeing several of these benchmark settings and tests. I'm struggling to push 60 avg fps in GTA 5, on my asus a16. Any help would be greatly appreciated..
Is vsync on? Are you using the laptops performance mode? Is it plugged in? Drivers updated?
90C CPU Temp tho TUF still has mid cooling system i see, changing the default paste to TPM7950 should significantly decrease the cpu temp probably
That's probably because r7 variant does not implement the new cooling system. But we'll see when the r9 variant review came out

Yesterday I had a drama with the Asus Tuf FA617 model: when using Photoshop it had an intermittent power-on screen, however, on a desktop that same file does NOT have any problem.

I will have to wait several days to send it to service, it has 8 days of use in video editing and graphic design.

Is the temperature of the cpu acceptable when you play with 90⁰ ?
Even 100 degree is normal, cpu has build in protection so if it was too hot it would have shut down instantly.
These 90+ temps wont hurt the PC in longterm?

The reason why FPS is capped on laptop GPUs is because of power saving reasons.
Nvidia calls this technology Max-Q, AMD has something similar too.
There's no need for 200+ FPS anyway, it only causes high temperatures and loud fans.

MaxQ waren einfach die GPU Versionen mit weniger Power/Watt. Also quasi die Stromspar varianten. Das hat erstmal nix mit einem FPS Cap zu tun ;)
200 FPS verursachen auch nur dann Hitze und Lautstärke wenn der PC dafür an die Grenzen gehen muss ;) bei einfacheren Games muss er das dafür ggf gar nicht 😬
Aber ja, mehr als 200fps machen nur in manchen Fällen Sinn. CS2... Apex... Overwatch etc.

For ur rtx 4050 vs rtx 3060, why does the rtx 4050 outperform the 3060 in some titles but in others, the 3060 crushes the 4050?
Because some games are more sensitive to clock speed/mhz. Others to vram. Others to the cpu. Others to driver optimization... Alot of reasons :)
Also mobile Gpu comparing is never perfect since you usually can't get identical test systems.

@@Hubwood das klingt saugut vielen dank dir.ich hab keinen bock 3000 oder mehr für nen laptop oder pc auszugeben nur um gelegentlich rumzufliegen.ich denke die AMD Radeon RX 7600S ist ja vergleichbar mit der geforce RTX3060und die ist ja auch eine der besseren grafikkarten daher dürfte das spiel auch wenn die anforderungen höher sind noch laufen

This is a great laptop for the price, $750 on Best Buy sale right now. Only reason I wouldn't pull the trigger and get one was 8gb of vram is just not enough for this resolution nowadays. GPU is powerful enough for a good experience on ultra settings but as your tests show you were running out of vram in many games. 12gb of vram is the bare minimum for 1080p gaming. If you had it at the full screen resolution you would have had even more problems.
