Hey I would like to say THANK YOU. I started by cleaning the intake, that did not work but it help me more for something I have never done. Then I replace the EGR, same problem, test test the solenoid with a 9v battery work okay, clean the EGR Tube it was clean, finally I re-study you video how to test the modulator, I TEST THE MODULATOR P AND Q FREE AIR PASS. THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. REPLACE THE MODULATOR AFTER 300 MILES NO MORE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. NO MORE P0401 AT ALL. THANK YOU.
Thanks man for the very helpful detailed information you gave. I will be going by the parts store to get a vacuum modulator, thanks again. Keep up the good helpful videos.
i havent replaced my speedo cable yet so unfortunately i am not sure how it comes out , i will probably have to replace it soon since the speedo is acting up but hasnt quit yet , if you find out let me know
@@TheRandomMechanic What I think I know so far is that the old 22r up to 95 trucks you can pull the cable out from the bottom, but after that you have to take the dash apart. This is what I am thinking after reading allot of forums. Not any videos on TH-cam to do the trucks from 95-2004. That would be a good video to do as that was one of the issues. Replacement and or re lube noisy speedo cable behind guage cluster.
I took my EGR valve off in my 95 Previa with a Superchager. Tested on vehicle with a vac pump and no drop in RPM. Took it off but I had to remove my starter to gain access to the EGR.
99 toy got sick FRIDAY and its now SUNDAY NIGHT and just seen the VID!!! 200 bucks at autozone plus 5 trips!!! lol this could of saved me time and money!!! DAMMIT!! MAN!! lol THANKS
+jesse197981 i even went as far as to cut my vacuum modulator apart it just has a rubber diaphragm in it and mine was completely destroyed , make sure the egr valve is still good and i meant to say egr port earlier make sure the port on the intake isnt clogged up the port is about the size of your little finger , mine was so plugged up a tooth pick was a tight fit i had to use a cordless drill to clean mine out man what a mess , good luck let me know how the new modulator works out
Thank you so much for this video. It was very helpful. I have a question , the first thing you said to check ....that gets plugged up ...can you show how to clean it out ? I'm not sure exactly where you are talking about. Thank you for your help.
Where the EGR Valve mounts to the intake, there is a hole that goes straight towards the front of the car, right into the intake, it comes out in the intake , you have to remove your throttle body, then look inside intake, on the left you will see a 1/2 hole about 3 inches from where you TB was mounted, If you have removed both EGR and TB, then you can spray some TB cleaner into the hole and use a smaller bottle brush, installed into a drill, keep spraying and running that brush through there, then give it o0ne last good spray. In gets plugged up and causes low flow when the EGR tries to add air to your system. About a 3 hour job. That small hole gets plugged up with carbon, not a good design. But you probably have already fixed you engine, seeing how old this post is, maybe someone else can use it.
I don’t even have a Tacoma, not sure why I watched and gave a thumbs up, but it sounds like it would solve the problem to whoever has that problem. You know you know your shit when you do a suction test with your mouth lol 😅
sorry about that after this video i was insanely busy and i forgot to make the follow up video , once i replaced the vacuum modulator it started working perfectly and the 4 years its been since making this video the check engine light hasn't come back
that usually means that the egr valve is stuck open i would check the modulator and clean the egr valve , if it seems like the valve is sticking still you will need to replace the egr valve
I’m waiting for mine to burn out 258,000 1995 1/2 still gets 22-27 just drove across country 800 miles a day. Made it across in 4 days. I was smart this time and brought a 5 gallon gas can and used it 2 times. The tank says 15 gallons but I get scared at 12-13 gallons. Love these little trucks except the tank size

What about a p0402 excessive flow, happens during cold starts
that usually means that the egr valve is stuck open i would check the modulator and clean the egr valve , if it seems like the valve is sticking still you will need to replace the egr valve
The Random Mechanic I'll try n clean it and check the modulator
