Göran, you can just tell you have a really good heart (both emotionally and aerobically!), thanks always for the super valuable lessons in both running and life.
I know exactly what you mean Göran, I have only done an ultra distance a couple of times, but after running my 50 mile run on my 50th birthday a few years ago, I sometimes draw on that experience if I find things are getting a bit tough. When you have such a big goal and it works out, even when during the run you have times where it is really hard, getting through the tough bits makes it so worth while.
Another fantastic video! Your channel is truly inspirational- I'm glad you didn't quit that first year! I've been running my whole life, but feel like my love and excitement, my PASSION for running, finally developed when i started running ultras at 41. I've always struggled with asthma and bad knees since childhood. Getting older and slower was a huge blow to my pride. Switching from 5ks to 50ks was the best thing I've ever done... I'm just an average middle aged woman, with a long list of chronic health issues, and 2 jobs totaling 60+ hours a week... my ultrarunning is where I transform into an epic badass. I'm slow as a turtle, but the feeling of accomplishment, the incredible camaraderie and memories from the events, and the friends I've made racing, have added soo much to my life! (And no more trouble with asthma and bad knees!)
I feel I do a pretty good job of not comparing myself to other runners, but thats easy for me to do, because I pretty much always run alone and only to "virtual" races. The odd chance that another runner is around me and is faster, I immediately try to keep up and compare myself to them. It's so easy to beat yourself up that you aren't as good, but if you've been running long enough and think back to your roots, you'll see huge improvements which is what we need to focus on.
Always looking forward to your videos. Always learn something new and extremely useful for my running journey. I hope to run my first 50k next year. Will need to rewatch this video😊. Thanks and keep up the great work!
I've entered a hilly ultramarathon this October, 2 weeks after I'm racing a regular marathon. I hardly even remember signing up for it, and I don't why I did. I think I was drunk. I intend to just try and enjoy it and not worry about pace or position and make sure I get through it injury free. But I know my competitive nature will come out, the winning time from last year looks doable...
Goran, thanks a lot for the effort you put into making these videos, it inspires me. I just started a youtube channel myself and realize how much work it requires to actually make video. Considering the high quality of your videos and how much time you must spend to make something like that... Respekt
I have a 50km race this Saturday. I am going to have a curry the night before and I’ll use a different sports drink the for the race that I was training with.
😂😂 I eat EVERYTHING new on race day, because I'm slow and have an iron stomach, and love food... but man, even I shudder at the thought of a spicy curry the night before! 😂😂
On second watch, 6:19 the basement(*) insanity really contrasts with & highlights the incredible wilderness vistas in all the other clips used in this video. And the beautiful videography. *why??!
Part of why I'm running is to hopefully learn lessons that I can apply in my own life of delayed gratification. Building fitness day by day run by run until what used to be impossible is possible. It felt awesome to complete my first ultra! Right now I am in a situation where life is so chaotic and hopeless that it spills over into my running instead. I am starting to loose the faith that I will run an ultra ever again.
Wish you the best and hope you can use running and people around you to feel better, remember it doesn't always get worse, I sincerely hope things will turn around for you soon!
I’m an ultra marathon runner too and I’m curious why you think it’s unhealthy? I used to give it all I have and tried to chase times or a good position, but then I learned to just enjoy all ultra and I didn’t want to have to recover for a week afterwards, which is totally possible if you just run it a little less ambitious. This is what I like about trail and ultra running. It’s not so easily comparable, so you don’t chase PR’s or good times as you would in track or road races. Also comparing yourself against others makes a little less sense, because races are all different and the same race next year might even be totally different because of the weather.
I love this! It's so true... I would rather run a trail 50k than a road 5k any day... if I'm averaging 25-35 miles a week, I can be recovered and back to easy running in 3-4 days. And they're just so much FUN!
Goran, did you re-record the narration after the run? It sounds like you’re in a studio not running outside. If not, that’s a GREAT microphone you’ve got! Thanks for the video - enjoyable as always 👍
You probably mean the Tromso Skyrace. Unfortunately the last one was last year. I didn’t complete, it was really tough cut off times, but nevertheless a great race and experience
@@markthomasson5077 One is going on right now (or technically, they were finished this weekend) But I think you are thinking about the one that goes up the mountain "Hamperokken", but I think that was cancelled cus they had an accident, so the races after that have been way easier (up and down wise I guess) but still 50km, which...isn't a joke :P I think the old, harder one, was even called "Hamperokken race, or skyrace" something. Was started by that world renonwned ultra runner, Kilian Jornet or something. But as said, afaik, it is discontinued. Quick Edit: I could definitely be wrong about it being discontinued though, as I'm not sure. Just assumed so, since I never hear talk about it again compared to the other ultra race here.
@@Popmycherryyo it was the Skyrace. Not quite sure why cancelled, but not due to an accident. I guess too much work to organise. Shame, it brought a lot of folk to the city, many to return, I did this June…with skis.
Good that you got sponsored, look nice shoes…but the first to design specifically for Ultras…is that really so? I see that they only sell in USA. And they only sell Road shoes.

Very inspiring. I just started my running journey few months back and hope to be able to run a marathon some day.
Brother, I signed up for my first marathon this year. It’s gonna be in December. Hope you get to sign up for one soon!
I am in the same boat! I’m going to sign up for one in Netherlands hopefully next year.
Glad to hear you found it inspiring and I wish you the best of luck on your running journey!

Thanks a ton makes me happy to hear 😊
Göran, absolutely loved this video. Great, down to earth lessons that can apply to us. Thanks for sharing. Happy trails.

Hey Göran, loving the content. I wanted to ask for some advice about finding good running shoes for wet weather. Seems like an impossible task 🤣
