another great video mate. I have found that in 20 years of living in Australia, it has got so expensive. I think its probably more expensive here than the UK now. In different circumstances I would be doing just what you are doing, not retiring but working from there. Keep up with the good videos mate.

I retired 20 years ago at 45. Right or wrong? No idea. How could I possibly know? I've been very happy, but I was very happy in my career too. It's just a different kind of life. If you're happy in your career you'll likely be happy retired because you had the skills to figure out how to be happy while working. If you're unhappy working you'll likely keep making poor choices in retirement and be just as unhappy and maybe more unhappy as the years pass.
    It's not complicated.

Just saw this video; I am trying to be creative with my future as I am going through life transition. I love Thailand, been there twice. I am curious to hear you take on the healthcare system tho, as it is a concern for most people as we age. A video about the steps ahead to move in Thailand would be much appreciated, like how did you start moving there, how did you find the ideal place, how did you find the house, what about having a community and not felling isolated...That could be a great education platform:) Thanks for the video, very positive and motivational.

Hi Mate, you've maybe covered this topic in one of your videos. I retire in 18 Months and since the early 80s Thailand was always on my radar as the country I would most like to retire too. I would be retiring with only my combined UK & German state pension Monthly income to support me of around €1550. If I am not wrong Thailand now requires a foreign retiree to show a Monthly income of €1780 and why I had actually hit the notion of retiring to Thailand on the head and currently considering Cambodia who offer easy access to a 1 Year renewable retirement Visa. Not sure in which Video but did I hear there are legal ways round me not being able to show the minimum Pension required to qualify for a Thai retire Visa ?. Its no big deal if there isnt as Cambodia would be cool too and Thailand an easy Holiday destination but having spent so many years visiting Thailand I have quite a few Thai friends now and it would still have been my prefered country to retire to if I would have qualified for a 1 year retirment visa that was easly renewable as one thing I do not want is to be always having to worry about having to leave a country when my aim is to settle in it, build a social network there and enjoy my latter years doing so.

There's a nice little bit of tax planning if you've a good public sector pension and you don't want to split up. Divorce, the pension gets split, you remarry and now (say) your £25k single pension where you's been paying 20% tax on £12,500 (£2,500) is two £12,500 pensions, totally tax free.

All the vlogs I have seen this one made the most sense to compare- nice one. Clear how the average guy can make the decision to retire. So you only survive on your pension? I was thinking £1.4K per month I could survive in Thailand rural and have that laidback lifestyle. Had enough of exactly you describe of England slog to survive rather than to live.

I too was affected by the collapse of the housing market, and it has taken me about 14 years to completely recover. I was going to wait until 67 years old to retire with my Social Security and the small income from a rental I own, but at 58 decided enough is enough. I've worked for 45 years of my life and am tired. I've been to Costa Rica (which I love), but it is expensive to live there. So I decided to give Thailand a try. Well it’s all come out great in the wash up Les. I think it was a good few years early to retire.....I took my lump some at 58, and put it into property.....worked well .....my mates said ....ah but my pension will be worth 10k more than yours .....sure , but they are paying tax on it !.
Finally left at 64...... have a decent company pension ( yes taxed grhhh) and U.K. state pension. ( yes that it gets taxed as well......anything you have after 12.5 k gets taxed) but lucky , no mortgage. , and 2 k a month...... coming in ....live comfortably on that.
Still have itchy pants to go to LOS.....as I’ve said before.....holidays first

American here. I agree with 99% of your points. My only complaint is you use very isolated examples that do not reflect reality as a whole. Sure there is crime and homelessness in NY, LA, Chicago and to some extent DC and other urban areas. That is less than 1% of the USA. I live in the Mid-west and I have never been victim to a crime. There are dozens of US States that are very safe. The US, as a whole, leads the world in overall Standard of Living. This mis-conception happens to most of the world that does not understand the US or have lived here for less than 10 years.
I plan to semi-retire in Thailand when I retire at 60 in a few years. We have a very close family and it is that family that makes life worth living for me. Everyone is different I understand this. For some, a wholesale change is needed.
Thailand is the only country I would live outside the USA. The scenery is the best in the world but it is the people and culture that is the most important. God Bless the Thai people. The world could learn from them.
BTW: Sorry about your Queen. She was an inspiration to the world. I hope Charles can be half the Monarch that the Queen was.

I retired at 48 in Thailand, got bored within 6 months and went back to work within 12 months. I held on to my mortgage free home in Europe while in Thailand as I wasnt sure if I would stay. If I did stay, I would have sold it.
But, its actually more expensive for me to live in Thailand than 40 minutes outside one of the most expensive cities in Europe. In Europe, I live on 800 euro a month (no mortgage or rent) When living in Thailand for the best part of a year, it was costing me in excess of 1200 euro a month, and anyone that lives in Thailand will know that 1200 euros equates to a very sedate lifestyle, visas and insurance are a large cost. Food is another cost that people underestimate. Its easy chew through 10 euros a day on street food, fruit and water. 70 euros a week for the basic Thai street food, you go western once or twice a week, add another 10 euro per meal. 90 Euros a week total. I go to my local supermarket and can feed myself for a week for 40 euros. I could cut that cost to 30 euros a week if I lived on a Thai diet which consists mostly of rice or noodles and a very small portion of meat/fish.
I saw a guy on youtube recently walking through a mall in Thailand and he was proudly holding up a cup of fresh orange juice to the camera 'this juice only cost me 2 Euro' ...you can get the same fresh squeezed orange juice in my local supermarket for 1.50 euro.

    • @wojamacolit
      @wojamacolit 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

You can also choose to go to local markets and supermarkets and cook your own food in the same way as you do in the UK! Do you eat out every day in the UK with a couple of trips a week to eat out at a (Thai?) restaurant? How much would that cost? I can't see your point, it's really not a fair comparison.

@@wojamacolit You could cook at home but who does? Even Thai have the common sense to eat out rather than cooking themselves as they realise that there is very little price difference between buying and cooking it themselves and buying exactly what they want from the street.

@@PedrosmsPedrosms How did I contradict mysef? And you said 'we cook for ourselves' which I assume means you have a lady that cooks for you. Another mistake is men hooking up with a lady as you end up entirely suppporting her financially, you should add up how much you spend on her weekly and include cost of food, which you have to buy twice as much of. Hooking up witb a lady in Thailand adds 30% to your monthly budget.
The only real saving to be got in Thailand is cost of renting a place to live. My mortgage free home for example, I could rent it out for over 2500 euro a month, then go to Thailand and rent out a nice place for a few hundy a month and live like a king..but Thailand gets boring after a while, nice to fly in for a few months to avoid euro winters but nicer to fly out of there and go home. Retirement is all about having choices...You dont want to be stuck in Thailand in your 70s on a limited budget. I have the choice of going to Thailand when ever I want...Going in november BTW, for 5 months, to avoid winter.

Traveled all over greece, italy, france, germany, england and a few other places. Went into the miltary and then came out and went to work for myself and a few companies. I thought that when i get older i dont want to travel as much and im glad i went about at an early age. I had four houses and sold them, had a few businesses and closed them. I did have two girls who I loved very much but my wife stopped me from seeing my kids for 9 months, then when I got access to them again after taking her to Court it was not the same 9 months is a long time, following this time their mum poisoned their minds towards me saying everything was my fault and sadly things turned against me Many people kept saying wait until the kids get older they will come back and understand. My ex kept saying not good things about me and I never said anything bad about their mum, My ex girlfriends also helped by saying I was not a nice man, funny it is always the ex girl friends who I left never said anything good but apart from my ex gf everyone is ok with me. When I retired and went around the World and the bad mouthing got worse. I waited and waited pussyfooting around with my kids and when they were both older than 20 I asked for a chat with them both to get things sorted, It did not happen. I visited the UK for 6 weeks One daughter met me for 2 hrs the other said she did not have time. Then asked for another meting before I left for good the answer we have got no time.
Divorce can ruin many things, My door is always open but I fear it will never happen, we all parted on some not very nice words. But my true answer even if me and my daughters were like best friends, I still would have moved to Thailand, you have to live your live as you want it and as you would want your kids to live their life. We are 24 hrs away from anywhere if you are needed.
I am not a perfect man and never have stated that I was, but following my 2nd divorce I knew what I did not want in a partner and was very quick to exit that relationship if it started to go wrong. I am now married to a wonderful girl and have a great life together. So it can happen, never stop in a relationship if only one side is working it takes 2 to work together.

But we found Academically qualified guys did not have problem solving ability's and no common sense if it was not in a book then they were stuck The fire service is all about problem solving dealing with what ever it is with the equipment you have Practical These bookworms struggled.
