Your videos are the best. You stop and show the prices. Some others just go so fast even when you pause the video the prices are blurry. They really are the closest experience to going their ourselves.
Appreciate the feedback man! I try to constantly improve to make the videos more enjoyable so I'm always open to suggestions as well. Better to do that on discord tho
Great video. The catchment areas for Hard Offs out in the countryside tend to be bigger and there are fewer tourists driving out to them, so you can often find uncommon stuff or stuff that would be much more expensive in Akihabara. Again, prices may vary depending on the franchised location, but there are deals to be had (for example you certainly won't find that PSone w/screen in Tokyo for that price). Plus you get a road trip adventure out of it as well. It should be noted that, depending on the country you're originally from, the requirements to get an international license/permit to drive in Japan may be different.
always so much cool stuff in these vids! 14:32 well I'd definitely cop that beatmania turntable... a series I've been dying to get back into, just been sidetracked with dreamcast collecting, haha. I do appreciate showing the retro commercials *and* providing english subs, even when it's tough like apparently ogre battle 64? but appreciated all the same. oh and the conversion rates! looking forward to part 2!!
Hehe translating them keeps me on my toes as well, I played bestmania a bunch in the arcades but never had a console version. Should get a controller for the PS3
After 3 successful trips in Japan I learned one important thing: if you find something you'd like to buy and it has a price tag that you think is fair, just buy it! Prices are all over the place. A Gameboy game can cost $10 to $100 based on the box, the cartridge, the location of the shop, etc. And I mostly agree of that Akihabara is not the best place for bargain hunters, but Trader in my opinion is still once of the few shops you should check :) . I bought really cool things from that store!
I used to go to Trader all the time it's a great store and super reasonable for the location but I've just been focusing on these guided so it's been a while. And for us the thrill of finding "extreme" deals is a big part of the fun but if you're here on vacation then you should definitely not be as cheap and stingy as us haha
Found your channel recently and I’ve been binging all your videos. Your style is great! They’re so addicting to watch and I genuinely appreciate the effort you put into them including the gameplay and prices. I’ll be going to Japan in May and these videos make me all the more excited!!
Great video as always! Sometimes it is these small stores where you can score large, as entire town's products come to that store only. Looking forward to your next video! FYI, that 16000 N64 game's name is Wetrix. It is one of rare titles that price escalated fast, especially due to its white color box that fades so quickly.
@@4amLaundry It just my assumption, as I saw Wetrix CIB valued from KPY 10,000 to over 20,000... Too large gap in price despite the same condition except the condition of outer box. From my point of view, white box is one of problems N64 soft has, that fades too quick if not properly stored.
@@4amLaundry 300 yen for Wave Race 64 CIB is definitely a score, despite the box condition. Congrats! Looking forward to see your future journey on collecting N64! It is always great to share the experience with someone who understands the mindset behind~
Id really like if you added a brief walk through of the store sometimes. I collect diecast, some figures, gacha and lego and it would be very helpful to see a bit of that stuff. Im really enjoying all the pro tips you have when it comes to thrift shops
Really good feedback, thank you! I cut a lot because the analytics show a lot of people skip though that. I'm planning a lot of future livestreams here and Twitch where you can literally ask me to do stuff in the store so keep an eye out for those!
Fantastic video, such amazing finds. So how much is car rental? Any good value company you would recommend? Love Japanese game artwork.... makes you want to buy & collect so much. Even the hampster games!
All the major car rental companies are about the same and you can see on their websites that the prices depend on the class of vehicle you're renting. It really doesn't matter which company you go with unless you absolutely want to support a particular car brand (Toyota Rentacar, Nissan Rentacar, etc.)
Speaking of complaining about the prices, they are so much better than in the States. Last time i found a Dreamcast, U.S or Japanese, it was about $150 USD
I just arrived in Tokyo yesterday and will be doing some video game hunting today. My biggest question is, has any of the consoles and games been tested to make sure they work or is it pretty much a gamble? I plan on picking up a super famicom console and some games, maybe a Playstation
If you're talking about Hard Offs specifically, the consoles that they put out in the normal stock shelves have been cleaned/tested so those have higher price tags. The consoles you find in the Junk section may or may not have been tested (sometimes you'll find a paper label with an explanation of what they found wrong when they tested it, sometimes you won't), but Hard Offs have a small area with power outlet/batteries where you can test before you deciding to buy (if the system powers up, reads discs, etc.).
The other 2 comments already answered it but there's usually a test area or you can ask the staff. Junk stuff is sold as-is but non junk stuff is always tested & working unless stated otherwise at Hard Off. They even have warranty on the items so you can return them if broken.
@@4amLaundry Perfect! I'm so exciting to start my hunting, I'm going in next January, but the prices at Akihabara made me upset (my sister was there last year). Im going to Tokyo/Osaka/Kyoto and a place in countryside, but not too far, will be perfect!
thats how much i paid for my loose pocketstation $13...anyone know how to wireless transfer game saves? I know the pocketstation has that IR sensor but even looking at english manual i couldnt figure out how to send game saves from one pocketstation to another or if its even possible
Thanks for this cool video! Now I need this for for hiking/camping stuff and for second hand clothing, because one of my friends is a reseller and the other one is a hiker. If someone have some advise, please write it down. 😊
I'm from Aruba but I've been living here for about 5 years now. Yeah a lot of those roads are toll roads so you have to pay, there's trains but it takes a lot longer and there's a lot of walking.
@@4amLaundry Aruba wow is your family still there? That hardoff is monstrously huge😮 it would take me a week just to dig through all the junk👀👀👀🤩
It was massive haha we spent so much time in there it was crazy
Thanks
I think this is the literal first superchat lol thank you so much!
i am not really a gamehunter myself but seeing these clean second hand stuff, its really tempting :)
Didn't expect a game chasers reference and you are right I'm sure Jay would love that snes case
They're the reason I got into retro gaming way back in 2010! Still watch every episode haha

Tha ks for watching! Was definitely fun to make
Nice to see you back here
Nice to be back!
The thrill of the hunt is unbeatable in Japan ☺️👾
It's neverending!

It's a big chapter in the 4am book tbh
Thank you, immensely enjoyed vid, definitely going to these stores in my next trip

good to see you back bro love your videos
Thanks! Glad to be back.
By far the best vid yet.
Super fun seeing more places.
Some of those finds were crazy like the one N64.
Also hell yeh to the Hamtaro stuff

Thanks! It does take effort and time but the end product is worth it imo, good luck in Japan!
20:48 the river king games are really fun! I don't think we got that one in the US though.
Hard off is great if you don't have a wanted list. I never find anything on my list when I visit. I find lots of other stuff though.
That's a good point, I don't really have a wanted list other than N64 stuff so it's always fun to see what I run into
Nice Episode Dude
Love your content. Im happy that im Not living There otherwise i wouldve picked up so much stuff and would get bankrupt 😅
Haha it's hard that's why I constantly nitpick and leave stuff that I should've gotten
