The Untold History of Indian National Congress: A Mega Series - Episode 1: Founded by a Foreigner

  • #indiannationalcongress #congress #congresshistory
This is the first episode of a mega series of Podcasts exploring the comprehensive history of the Indian National Congress. Apart from the official version of the history of the Congress written by Pattabhi Sitaramayya, there exists no comprehensive and objective history of an organisation that repeatedly claims that it brought freedom to India from British rule.
This mega series of Podcasts is a small attempt at offering such an objective history drawn from primary sources including but not limited to official Congress and British documents.
The opening episode gives a brief historical backdrop to the founding of the Indian National Congress by a Scotsman named Alan Octavian Hume.
Overall, both the mega series and this episode is a must watch for anyone who wants to gain an in-depth and factual understanding of the full trajectory of the Indian National Congress.

My late father used to get so pissed off by the Gandhi family claim that India became free because of Nehru only, India progresses only because of Nehru, Gandhi family rule as if without them India would return to medieval period. He was also pissed off by the naming of airports, universities, stadiums, ports, hospitals etc after the Gandhi families only as if there were no other great names or leaders in India.

What about RSS contribution in Independance of India ? How many RSS leaders went to Jail for freedom struggle? What's the Name of RSS freedom fighter?

    • @odhip3851

@@amolsapkal16 You mean, why RSS didn't partake in British collaborator Gandhi's "nonviolence" charade? Dunderheads can try wishing away their contribution all they like, but history's replete with stories of sacrifices made by Swayamsevaks such as Ramakant Despande and Hemu Kalani for our freedom. All that from an organization that was in its infancy during independence.
Your turn: Why were Nehru and Duratma accommodated in places like the Aga Khan palace, instead of real jails, and allowed to write theses while there if they were real threats to the British?

Very informative. Actually during 1857 gadar British faced immense killings though at the end they won but they were very scared about Bhartiya resistance so they wanted a safety valve things to diverge Bhartiya resistance. That's what my understanding of the events were.

The different frames and the lighting each episode doesnt help establish a solid image for your podcast.

That is one part. We need more research into how the policies of the party has shifted the demography of the many states and how the policies helped dilution of the civilizarional aspects of Bharat. For instatnce, they had enacted IMDT Act for Assam which made it impossible to detect and deport illegal immigrants.

I’d be interested to know the role played by the Theosophists and Annie Besant in the initial formation of the Congress. Were they genuine well wishers of Bharat or playing a role dictated by the crown? I think that this is a great venture, but I feel that often you allow us to read between the lines of certain statements made by the speaker which means that you are assuming viewers to know certain facts or details without them being spelled out. It’s difficult to give examples because it would be time consuming for me to go back, relisten and pick examples out. However, I feel that you need to treat the audience as a clean slate and explain as if we were totally ignorant novices. Please don’t assume we know, a safer assumption is you take us as being clueless. Because Sandeep is addressing you, he knows of things you might be alert to but we are not. He needs to therefore treat you as a total novice as well and explain as he might to a young child of let’s say 10 - 12 yrs old. Look forward to the next part.

Your comments of First War of Independence appears to be superficial. There was no such war where Indians fought against the Britishers. A few kings/queens/nawabs whose interests were at stake came together to fight against the Btitish to save their interests. Rest of India was mute spectator (even this is overstatement, nobody really bothered). Please don't glorify 1857 war. Regards.
