Hi Scott Well you were right. My Aventure 2 in Colbalt blue arrived the other day. What an incredible bike. Best purchase I have made other than buying my Ford Raptor new in 2012 which I still love and enjoy. Thanks for your honest reviews.
Great rundown, Scott! The *real* differentiator is of course that torque sensor. I went out and test rode the Aventure 2 today and I gotta say, it’s worth the extra $$ for that alone. But that’s just my opinion based on my riding style. Anyone who’s trying to decide between these two bikes really needs to ride both. $400 is a lot, and so if a cadence sensor works for you the original Aventure for $1499 is a total bargain!
I agree. The Torque sensor makes it a different experience. I am looking forward to putting some serious miles on this bike when I take it tomorrow for a long range battery test. That's when I will get to know the A2 much better.
@D so if i just plan to us it as amode of transportation in my town would the cadence sensor be better? I dont plan to use this for off-roading or anything just to and from work to save money. Will it go up hills just fine? Which will require less effort. I have bad knees
Great video. I purchased a black AA1 last week at my local bike shop for $1500. For $500 I can live without the torque sensor. I do quite a bit of trail riding and single-tracking and regularly use the throttle. Admittedly with the cadence sensor you have to be a bit more careful when trail riding. It's just a matter of getting to know your bike. The black AA1 which they no longer make looks great. Thanks again for the review.
@@scotthardesty My other bike is a Velotric Discover 1. I converted it to a hardtail MTB with 2.5" MTB tires and a dropper post. It's a great trail bike at 60 lb. An additional but minor factor in purchasing the AA1 is it's five pounds lighter than the AA2.
So I have a friend that has 2 of the original adventures. One step over and one step through. He has had them in his basement for over a year. They’re basically new. For me, I’m 6’, 260 lbs so the large step over is appropriate. He purchased the front and rear rack for it. I think the bike has 20 miles on it. Less than 20 miles is still new. If you can get a good deal then I would go for it. Although, the warranty is not transferable to you, and that bike with that small of miles, could have issues that no one has identified yet, and might cost you more.

What makes the Adventure 2 more efficient when it comes to distance traveled? Are the batteries more efficient or is the new motor better than the previous? I feel like the new one being heavier would cause it to be less efficient.
It’s all about how the power is generated. Torque sensors don’t use as much energy as cadence sensors do. This means the same size battery can travel a longer distance as it uses less power. The rider is the one decided how much power is used as opposed to a cadence sensor as it is programmed for a specific speed no matter how much effort is applied.

Right now there are no retro kits to convert the A1 to a torque sensor. With that being said, I have a feeling someone will come up with a way to do it.
@Scott Hardesty Hi from Canadas smallest province PEI, Maiden voyage today after falling down the rabbit hole for the last 2 months! Aventure 2 Reg slate grey, 750 watt motor not 500. $2649 CAD plus tax, Worth every Dam cent in my opinion. I feel like a 57 Y/O kid! Still vibrating after a my first 10 k light off-road in tour mode. Its a game changer, what a blast! Bike must be unlocked via App otherwise you'll be disappointed at first. Tomorrow range test. Scott pushed me over the edge on this decision, Thanks for that Scott!
I had the option of the AA1 or the AA2. After riding both my personal opinion is if you want to work out more and do a lot more pedalling go for the AA2 if your like me older 54 and want the best of both worlds exercise and leisurely ride I opted for AA1. I found AA1 to be more raw and exhilarating and an easier ride than AA2 but 2 is defiantly a smoother more natural ride! Would be great if you could switch from Cadence sensor to Torque sensor this would be awesome. Great vids and reviews I love watching them keep up the great work! 👌👍
Thanks for the support! That would be wild to switch from torque to cadence for sure. I would also like that. After 100 miles, I have noticed that I seldom hit 28mph on my AA2 as it seems to take much more effort. On my AA1 I hit that top speed with ease.
Appreciate the review. Honestly I think it all falls back on to and depends on the person and what they're using the bike for. I enjoy my Aventure a lot and modified it per your recommendations from your other video's. Did Aventon listen to yourself or the customers about the differrnt modifications?
Scott - Have a question for you on this topic. Like you, I have had the 1st edition for a while and been loving it. (Also, like you, off with those fenders!) I watched videos like yours here and convinced myself to buy the Aventure 2 for the torque sensor pedal assist variety. If I had one complaint about taking the original off road, it was that it was too easy and I wasn't getting much of a real workout. That, and the way the motor will lurch into gear when you resume pedaling, all that. Anyhow, have taking the new bike out a couple of times and I feel like I got the change I wanted with the move to torque assist in all ways except in one very important one. That being, I am underwhelmed with the performance when taking it up a lengthy grade. On the flat (and having removed the speed limiter with the app) I can pedal it on up to 28 mph and beyond and keep it there. I'm working for it but the physical/motor balance feels right, you know? However, on a grade, I feel like the bike just isn't giving me enough. Even in Turbo mode and low gear I strain to keep it at 8 or 9 mph. I mean, it feels pretty much like I'm trying to pedal a 75 lb bike uphill sans motor. And if I give up and press the throttle down; voila! I can keep it moving at about 15-16 mph. But no way, no how, can I muscle the bike uphill in the way I expected on pedal assist. It feels like there is friction or something holding me back on the grade which is silly because the wheels spin just fine in any other situation. Could the brakes be getting a slight squeeze on the ascent somehow? Did you have anything like this experience or would you say that maybe there's an issue with my bike on some level? Or maybe it will just take some getting used to. Frustrating.
Thanks for the question. I did a mtb test with my Aventure 2 and the hills that I attacked where not long grades. They were steep but not long. Although, I do understand what you are talking about. I seldom hit 28mph on my A2 due to its torque sensor setup. I have felt the bike get real heavy going up hills and like you, I have hit the throttle to keep going. Since I don't have a lot of those hills to deal with it has not been an issue, but yes, I have felt it. I think it's just something you will need to learn to adjust to.
@@scotthardesty I figured out what was wrong and thought I'd pass it along in case someone else comes to you with the same complaint. What I was doing wrong that is. So, coming from the first model, I hardly ever used shift between gears. Now, with torque assist, I was being much more mindful about being in the right gear. However, I treated the steeper grade like I was riding a regular, non-electric bike and went straight to the lowest gear. Which, obviously, you can't get the bike moving as fast as higher gears. So I left it in 4th and went down to 3rd and now I was getting that 'feels right' experience between pedaling hard and getting the Turbo assist and moving along at 13-15 mph uphill. Whew!
Assuming you didn't own an Aventon, after test and research which bike would you buy? My dealer says the original can now be bought for $1499. Thanks and love your videos. David
@@scotthardesty I currently own an Aventon Level so I'm aquatinted with the cadence. If I had the $400 I think I would buy another Rod and Reel. The bluefin tuna are running here in SoCal.
I went 45 miles on single charge with Aventon pedal assist 2. I weigh 200lbs, according to manual pedal assistance 1 should do about 70 miles. About 28 on pedal assistance 3
I'm glad I waited the new model is more advance it has more neat features and definitely more robust. Iam trying to get mine here in Canada for $2,498.76usd not sure if it's worth that price 🤔

I can confirm mine arrived as a class 3.
@@scotthardesty This bike will be available at Bestbuy in March regardless the price difference is quite extensive 2,436.07 usd how much did your ventura cost you from the Aventon store?
Very informative and good pacing. Thanks for all the details. To me, the torque sensor alone is worth the difference in price, especially if it will be ridden off-road.
I just bought the venture 2 and got the venture 1 for my they both have the exact same brake system. The only real differences is the Torque which isn't a big deal.
I hope you have a better customer service experience than I've had. Slowest shipping and lowest inventory (almost nonexistent) of any online retailer I've dealt with. However, they did contact me after my honest product review so they are staffed by real people. I love, love my Aventure but Aventon, not so much.
In Canada my Aventure v1 cost $3,400CAD less tax from my local bike shop last spring. I'd say we get screwed over not just because of the disparity in the Canadian dollar but because of a lot of other factors when buying these bikes from the US supplier. I recently tried to buy the improved display from a local bike shop. That display is typically about $65 in the US with some people saying it has gone as low as $50 on sale. Well, it's priced at $119 up here in Canada with at least one place selling it for $169! I tried to buy directly from Aventon but they wont ship to Canada, probably because of an agreement with the Canadian distributor. I tried to buy one from eBay but was unsuccessful. I'm still looking for a good upgrade path. I have the Cruiser version of the bike as I'll not be riding in the winter owing to the extremes in temperature and the amount of snow during that season. Mine came with the fenders and bike rack as standard equipment but the color display was not available so I have the older LCD display. I really like the bike but I'd be hard pressed to buy another in future. Also, the old batteries for these have been discontinued. To use the new ones (which are higher capacity) requires the contacts in the battery compartment on the frame to be replaced. This means the old batteries can no longer be used. Who does that? Do car companies make cars with non interchangeable parts between models of different years? Not usually. Not at least on my Chevrolet Impala. So, in order to get another battery, I have to buy one in Canada, which retails for $845CAD. In the US, these have now been discounted to $299USD. It looks like I can't get a deal there also because (you guessed it), they don't ship to Canada. Well, my next ebike will probably not be from Aventon, as it's too costly to run. Also, the bike only comes with a 500W motor which is the law up here in Ontario. 32kmph is the max speed by law but I can ride mine at over 40kmph easily without adjusting the motor. Getting a bigger motor isn't really necessary. Thanks for the video though...
It sounds like you own the Level 1 and not the Aventure. The Aventure has always come with a color display and the batteries are still the same. I can understand how frustrating that must be for you. Hopefully, your next bike will not have these crazy upgrade costs.
@@scotthardesty yes, my mistake, it's the Level. Same problems though...high costs for everything and no respite from the parent company. Guess they are off my Christmas card list (though they keep sending me online flyers everyday). Maybe this is also why cities like Toronto did not use them for their free ebike usage service...too expensive...

I think the torque sensor would make a difference in slow off-roading. When I go off road I'm in PA0. I want to work out a bit. However, there are times that I need the assistance and when I go to PA1 it's too much at once.
After having done a teardown of electronics. The original is build way more robust. I doubt any of the controllers in the 2 will survive long term heavy use.
No idea if they will send you one, but KKBIKE has a full suspension fat bike that's $1799. It would be great to see it compared against the Aventure2 (But I think the Aventure2 has better quality control and support)
Thanks Scott. By the way, I just found your site and enjoy how you don’t over hype the bikes you test. It’s much appreciated compared to some of the others trying to grab more attention with craziness. Keep up the good work.
You know that range is bull shit you have the same batteries same motor same speed you can't get more out of the same set up it's impossible you would need more batteries power
I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. The torque sensor pulls less power from the battery than a cadence sensor does. Because of that, the A2 can go a further distance. Each bike that I have ridden that has a torque sensor has gone further than its counterpart that uses a cadence sensor.
I thought they were a gimmic when they first came out. But, I have found them to be very effective. I have asked various people if they see and notice the turn signals. Most say yes. The others have their head in their phone not paying attention.
The Aventure 2 is still cheaper than the original Aventure was last August when I bought mine. It is worth it. I love mine, the original Aventure, but would love the cadence sensor. I asked them about retrofitting but they said not at this time although they had discussed it in meetings. So far I get way over the mileage they quote in PAS but I do peddle a lot.
Mate, 1,300 miles (2,100 kms) is not very far, especially over 2 years for an ebike. I would do that in just over 2 months on my hardtail without trying, without anything of any kind breaking. Not something I would call a real test of durability.

I'm guessing it probably will. I will know more tomorrow when I do the long range test. I have another set of 152mm cranks in case it does.
That’s more of a rider problem. You should never have your inside foot down around a sharp corner.
What is the 4 lb difference from? Seems to be almost identical
Torque sensor and the Aventure 2 comes with a rear rack as the Aventure 1 did not.
Thanks. Ordered the 2 last night with the free extra battery. Appreciate your videos!
@@mcplar1971 You won't be dissapointed!
AWESOME VIDEO BRO
THANK YOU 👍💯💥
I'm glad it helped!
So do you think there will be an option of upgrading the aventure to a torque sensor? Or are the aventure 1 all just stuck with what they have
Right now there are no retro kits to convert the A1 to a torque sensor.
Just for reference I have BMW R1200gs with 80k and the Aventure 2 is just as fun, albeit at different levels. Seriously fun!
You made me have to check my video... I say that both have a 750W motor and not a 500W. I'm glad I could help you decide and enjoy the ride!
Wish my Aventure 2 had an actual #2 somewhere on the frame. Petty I know.
I get what you are saying. Those who know the difference know you have the .2 version.
I hoping they did. Aventon has a big community and I do believe they made some changes based on customer suggestions. Also… thanks for watching!
@@scotthardesty Thanks for the quick response. I am afraid you're right. Well, I did say I wanted to get more of a workout, didn't I? 😁
David
It’s such a hard decision. I do like the torque sensor over the cadence sensor. If you have the $1899 then go for it.
@@scotthardesty I currently own an Aventon Level so I'm aquatinted with the cadence. If I had the $400 I think I would buy another Rod and Reel. The bluefin tuna are running here in SoCal.
Have you weighed either of these bikes in full off road mode, no fenders and no racks? I wonder if they drop below 70lbs in that configuration.
I have not but currently both are stripped down. Give me a day or so I can tell you. Great question!
@@scotthardesty could make a good video...
@@LectricGo You already know.
I went 45 miles on single charge with Aventon pedal assist 2. I weigh 200lbs, according to manual pedal assistance 1 should do about 70 miles. About 28 on pedal assistance 3
Nice! I ride more aggressive so my miles are normally lower.
I'm glad I waited the new model is more advance it has more neat features and definitely more robust.
Iam trying to get mine here in Canada for $2,498.76usd not sure if it's worth that price 🤔
I'm pretty sure if you are able to get it. You will be extremely pleased.
@@scotthardesty I will love to have this bike I hope it's available soon in my region since they're already selling last years model which has the same power I don't see why not except my only concern is since this model gets shipped as a level 3 bike out the box I hope that doesn't cause any restriction issues for my country I don't want to pay $2500.00 usd when the bike is selling for $1899.00 usd unless I have no choice 😉
@@banneduser978 The website says it ships it as a Class 2. For some reason, my was shipped as a class 3. I can confirm mine arrived as a class 3.

Very informative and good pacing. Thanks for all the details. To me, the torque sensor alone is worth the difference in price, especially if it will be ridden off-road.
I agree. I did a review where I tested it off road. Torque sensor was a game changer. th-cam.com/video/lCKiHfGaK5I/w-d-xo.html
I just bought the 1 before they released the 2 :( I did get it used with 131 miles for 1150 so I’m not too mad but still.
That's a deal!
@@scotthardesty 🤑😎
I just bought the venture 2 and got the venture 1 for my they both have the exact same brake system. The only real differences is the Torque which isn't a big deal.
The newer Aventure 1 models have gotten rid of the zoom brakes. Nice to know.
I hope you have a better customer service experience than I've had. Slowest shipping and lowest inventory (almost nonexistent) of any online retailer I've dealt with. However, they did contact me after my honest product review so they are staffed by real people. I love, love my Aventure but Aventon, not so much.
So far so good. Sorry to hear you had issues.
For the added weight of apx 3lb they could've run a 20ah 48v battery (51.8v/1036w). 33% more power and range.
The biggest battery I have seen integrated inside the frame of a bike is the Troxus Explorer with 960wh.

It would be nice if the fork travel was 180 mm but it's 80.
Oh crap. Did I say it was 180 instead of 80? I do know I made that mistake on the initial review of the A2.
I think the torque sensor would make a difference in slow off-roading. When I go off road I'm in PA0. I want to work out a bit. However, there are times that I need the assistance and when I go to PA1 it's too much at once.
Forgot to add I have the Aventure 1
I will be testing how she does on a MTB trail soon.
Great video buddy, can you review the Aventon Aventure 2 VS the Aventon Level 2? Please!
I would but I don’t have a level 2 @Aventon
After having done a teardown of electronics. The original is build way more robust. I doubt any of the controllers in the 2 will survive long term heavy use.
Oh wow. Interesting. So far so good with my Aventure 2... and I beat the crap out of it.
No idea if they will send you one, but KKBIKE has a full suspension fat bike that's $1799. It would be great to see it compared against the Aventure2 (But I think the Aventure2 has better quality control and support)
I've seen the KKBike. I feel that I will be getting more bikes shipped to me for reviews. The KKBike would be a fun one for sure.

@@jackblah5842 Leave my former dating profile out of this. hahahahaha
The rear rack on the Av1 is horrible design. But not enough on the Av2 to justify the cost to me.
You are correct. Although the differences are much more than just the rack.
Turn signals are a waste. For the few times you would use them and IF cars are paying attention, meh.
I thought they were a gimmic when they first came out. But, I have found them to be very effective. I have asked various people if they see and notice the turn signals. Most say yes. The others have their head in their phone not paying attention.
No it’s not worth the money.. not $400 more
Thank you for watching!
As of may 2023, now a $500 difference too
Mate, 1,300 miles (2,100 kms) is not very far, especially over 2 years for an ebike. I would do that in just over 2 months on my hardtail without trying, without anything of any kind breaking. Not something I would call a real test of durability.
For a guy who lives in Chicago and has many e-bikes to choose from. For me, it is a lot of miles. It is what it is.
@Nevets Essagal No, it was a crap bike review. However, it was a very good promotion (although somewhat biased) for Aventon. Now pull your face away from his arse and stop brown nosing.
