You're so talented. This is just gorgeous. I have an issue with finishing though... as much as I'd like to burn on the perfect piece of wood, I only use fallen trees and mill out the cleanest slices possibly. I'm currently working mostly with a cherry which is fairly dark for wood burning. I'd also like to avoid any harsh chemicals. Could you suggest a non-mineral oil that would give a good finish and not diminish too much detail?
You will be fine. If you set off the alarm you are burning waaay too hot and don't have control of your tools. I've been burning since 1984 - never set off an alarm. Now, cooking dinner is another matter :)
