Love your in depth look into this boutbon. Great video again! You should add a few drops of water and swirl it around. The oils will rise to the top and the first sip will be a lot richer. Might help you find the notes you're missing. Thank you for another great video!
A few year ago I stepped my game up from sipping Maker and Bulleit (I was whiskey dumb) to sipping Woodford. The price and taste fit my needs. I’m blessed to be able to afford a little more so I’m venturing out quite a bit. But if I’m out at bar or at a function Woodford is an easy go to.
@@Ghoul181 I’ve tried a bit more and can now recomend Russel’s Reserve single barrel and Widow Jane 10 yr($60 and $40 respectively where I live) and both have proven to be really nice. I’ve had EH Taylor quite a bit and though it’s good, I’d rather spend that $100 on Russel’s and Widow Jane (same same goes for Blanton’s).
I do enjoy woodford reserve, I feel great for newbs. I also prefer double oaked like you. Think for price is a good bottle to have on the shelf. thanks for reviewing
That's a great deal! Yeah, we have a few slightly more limited reviews coming that are celebrity releases but just going with the popular stuff so there's a relatable reference against the rare bottles.
I think u reignited my whiskey hyperfixation! I do prefer scotch (my go to is a glenfiddich 15) but where I live in Canada alcohol is more regulated than cannabis and only sold at government stores, so you can't really find much outside of what the average person gets.
Woodford Reserve is consistent in every batch, including the Double Oaked. I know, I sell Woodford. As far as flavor profile, I get toasted marshmallow, oak and vanilla / toffee / caramel tones. With rye spice on the backend. TJ - water it down to 60 proof to taste everything. Use spring water.
I have trouble determining the both on the nose and with the flavor but I like toffee and chocolate so that might explain why I like this so much. It is the only bourbon that I always have one open and usually buy it a 1.75L and refill the smaller bottles to put on the shelf to drink. I think it is a really good bourbon and a great value. I think you scored it low but feel pretty good it was only a point off of Blanton's because I can always get WR but have yet to see Blanton's.
I discovered this whiskey about five months ago while looking for a bottle to take to friends while we were working on his race l car. I wanted to find something I've never had an stay away from the common one like Jim and jack. I enjoyed this. although it's 50.00 bucks in my town and 40.00 a town over. Luckily I'm a sipper when it comes to bourbon so a single bottle lasts me alone for months
Fun fact on chemistry vs. what we experience or at least think we do. The solution of water and ethanol has higher viscosity than either of them alone, and it is at its highest at ABV of 46%. Of course there are other compounds that might effect it slightly, but theoretically that should be around the "thickest" point. More ethanol than that, and it start getting thinner again.
Howdy buddy! Thanks for the comprehensive and not boring review) I bought this just a couple of days ago and ain't uncorked it so far (plenty of uncorked bottles in the bar cabinet). But strange as it may seem my version is 0.7 cl and 43.4 ABV %. The bottle is the same. Could ya please tell my -are they all of different ABV%? Best regards from Moscow, Russia! Cheers!🤝
I love it because I can grab a half pint of it for like $10, and go home feeling like money was well spent. For $30 ish for a 750, I might be grabbing something else though 😎 Old Forester 100 would be a great choice and it's easily $10 less in my market
Woodford Reserve is indeed a damned fine whiskey Their Double Oaked is an amazing Bourbon. If I could afford it, it would be my everyday pour but $50/bottle is a bit much for me
I love seeing your collection behind you, but have you ever considered putting mirrors behind your shelves? Personally I love the honesty of a flat background, but damn is it beautiful adding the mirrors, just wanted to hear your stance on it as a collector!
@@Brewzle If you had mirrors behind you the lighting would be affected . But if you did not film there I agree it would be AWESOME. I had them in my wet bar in my 20’s. Loved the look.
It’s not even better than Evan Williams 100. I was given a bottle as a gift. Worst bourbon I’ve ever tasted. I’ll make highly diluted hi-balls with it. Mid shelf is generous.
It tastes like Aunt Jemima pancake syrup. I tried it neat, rocks and an old fashion. Not so good. It might be better if it was higher proof. It made an excellent hi-ball with ginger ale and a splash of San Pelagrino. Over all it’s cloyingly sweet and off putting. Even makes a rough, hard to drink bourbon and coke. It’s like taking a Coke and putting cheap pancake syrup in it. I never tried it before today and I’m disappointed with it. I’m gonna try it out with some ice and tonic water to see if it helps round out the flavor.
I just got a bottle of this and it tastes the same as jack Daniel’s to me. The bitterness hides a lot of flavor, or all whiskey is like that because I don’t drink it very often.
It’s around $30 where im at but I usually end up getting Makers for $20. What would you consider the better deal? I like both but the cheapskate in me usually wins out
You seem like you found some flavor in there. Hard to believe you couldn't pick up on 1% of the caramel, Carmel, carrmull, karmul, kahrmuhl notes that Woodford advertises.
“You got deep into that bottle“ how what did you have one old fashion and have another person come over and go I need one of those so you made two? If I am deep in to the bottom has been smashed against the wall
Lol, fair point. I was just pre-empting the haters that are like "you've drank half the bottle already and are now doing the review". We made at least a few old fashions with it. We usually spread out the pours across multiple bottles, so we don't go too hard into one bottle in one sitting.
I think you're being too kind to Woodford here. I'm not even a Blanton's fan boy, and I will admit that Blanton's has way more flavor and complexity than the base Woodford. Woodford Reserve is basically just water and black pepper. There's absolutely nothing to write home about it. Woodford Double Oaked is great, but I'd rather drink almost anything but the base level Woodford Reserve.
🤣🤣🤣 I was a chef for 30 years.. my very livelihood depended on my nose and pallet... 212??? If anyone can taste and tell me just the "23" flavors in Dr Pepper I'll kiss their butt.😂😂😂😂😂😂
Its the most basic bourbon i can think of. It tastes like what your brain thinks bourbon flavoring is. It doesnt fail in any way, but it excels in no way. Not bad, but utterly boring.
Why is the color so dark? The bottle I have, the bourbon is very light colored......and I really don’t like it at all. It taste like 80% vodka and 20% bourbon.....

I think the whole using more available bourbons for the chart is great 👍
Picked me up a Elmer T Lee Finally for only $42

For a good priced easy to find bourbon WR is my go to.
Woodford is very nice imo. Will acquire some in the near future
I agree, it's a solid bourbon. Not spectacular, but good.
I’ve actually tried this recently. It evolves into vanilla notes, which I actually do like.
Just opened a double oaked store pick here in Knoxville. Wow maple syrup for days! Love the videos TJ
Woodford is always on my self I truly enjoy it. Like wild Turkey and makers Elijah Craig just a very good affordable whiskey.
Woodford was my very first whiskey. It was my go too for a while. I drink a lot of glenlevit now.
I still have no clue how or when i subscribed but i loving the videos the last like three days lmao

Its the same in Ohio,USA, the state controls all hard liquor sales and you have to take whatever the state liquor store has on hand.
WRDO is my favorite bourbon. Must get a bottle prior to sipping on my WR Master's Collection 2024 BP.
Going from Wild Turkey 101 to Woodford Double Oak blew my mind. It definitely makes me want to try some of the other top shelf Bourbons out there.
Another good vid keep up the work my man
I love it 💯 & 1st had it 2022 last year & one of my favourite whiskey's & hey from Australia 🇦🇺🥃

Just how much water do you add ?
Can't believe how good this whiskey is. It tastes better than some stuff that costs twice as much 👍👍
Didn’t know Woodford and Old Forester are from the same brand! I’ll have to try some now, thanks TJ! 😋👍
Yep a solid bottle can be in everyone’s selection
Agree!

You should try Woodford reserve sweet wheat it’s awesome
I need help, Woodford or Wild Turkey 101 , what would you choose?
How about a Gentleman Jack video? I like it quite a lot.
That’s literally their worst offering besides the flavoured bottles honey etc, try a Jack Daniels Single Barrel instead. 👍

Just finished a bottle. Not bad but I’m not likely to run out and get another one. There are others I prefer that are around the same price.
I too have an oakie finish

The bourbon that takes no risks - per their website. Easy drinker and a great starter but certainly a mid shelfer, at best.
