This is my favorite piece of content this channel has ever put out. As someone that plays a lot of pickup, analyzing great moves is more interesting to me than deep, advanced coaching concepts. I can more easily translate what I learn here into pickup games.
As a middle school coach, I try to give my players as many moves as possible and help them improve their vision so they can begin to understand and recognize all the possible counters. They're much more likely to work on technique in their free time than they are to study X's and O's. Studying plays is still very important from a coaching standpoint, but it's definitely not as interesting to young players. I was pleased to discover that I've been using a Durant favorite in pickup games for years, the hesitation go. I'm better at the righty hesitation go than the lefty hesitation go, and I think it's a probably a plant foot quickness issue because I've had some left foot injuries. But the lefty hesitation elbow pull-up is sort of my signature shot (nobody likes to guard the mid-range jumper!), so I should probably focus on improving my lefty hesitation go... 🤔
Isaiah been doing that half spin move for so long, nobody seems to stop it. Seen high school highlights of him doing it and it still works now. Incredible to see. Good video and I'm so glad you chose to show that one
I've always think it's great to analyze great players moves. Great way to learn. Maybe you can continue this series but take some retro players and do the same thing with their moves. I truly believe it would be great to see you showing Michael Jordan, Barkley, Bird and many other players ways of getting buckets!
This was a great episode. You could make this into a new series, highlighting one player per episode. It'd be really good to show the players 'base' move, and then show how they execute their 'counter-move' if the base move is not on.
Isaiah's layups with the right hand jumping off the right foot are not only thought to throw off shotblockers' timing, primarily smaller and lighter guys use that kind of a layup because this way they can better lean into the defender who is on their left creating separation. If they jump off the left foot the defenders can easily push them of balance. Tony Parker is the master of the right foot right hand layup.
+BBALLBREAKDOWN ty for all ur great work....my son is going on 5 and I'm 28 pretty soon I will b coaching him bcuz I loved bball as a kid and still do today....some of these videos will give me defensive tip Haha and some plays....we all kno defense wins championships and from what I've seen in recent yrs, coaches r neglecting it bigtime
Really loving this breakdown of individual players skill-set! Looking forward to see more videos similar, hopefully, technical players like Gasol brothers, Chris Paul, Timmy, and etc.
that hesi- pull up by KD is truly unguardable. John Salmons used it a lot but he was only 6'7. KD is 7ft and usually has a smaller guy on him. would love to see KD use it more often. especially for game winners or clutch shots
+dalton graham yup. he is definitely 7 foot. the 6'9 thing was like when he was a rookie or when he was younger. then he grew to 6'11 or 7 foot. the nba just doesn't officially update it. and don't base your facts on 2k either
Z,Bo footwork is awesome with baby soft hands around the rim, Isaiah gives inspiration to the small fellas, the hesitation is like the modern "Smitty" trademark, CP3 is pretty good at it also.
Could you do a separate video to how Isaiah Thomas uses his strengths to his advantages? As a small guard, I'm just curious as to how he can compete at such a high level.
that half spin is interesting! spin moves are so tricky, disorienting for a split second but if you are ballerina with it you can concentrate for a pull up, or switch sides quickly
Nice.😎 really good stuff, I'm a baller. & the summer time is here, 👀 can't wait for some more moves. "please" I would like to use them on the basketball courts.
I was thinking the same thing. JR developing a consistent jumper is the absolute key. Watching and applying what Zbo does here in this breakdown would be a nice foundation. This was an excellent watch.
Hey coach, can you break down how Shaun Livingston has been so successful in the Rockets-Warriors series? I notice that he has such a different style than Steph, but the Warriors are still able to insert him in the starting lineup and not miss a beat. He seems to always find the cracks in the defense, so I think it would be a good one to break down.
If Memphis blows it up, Raptors should try to get Randolph, he would be a beast next to Jonas or Biyombo. If Biyombo is the center then we could use Randolph's offense so biyombo could just focus on blocking shots and getting Offensive Putbacks
The righty hesitation go is one of my go-to moves! If a guy fails to force left but I can't quite get the right cleanly, I'll hit him with a hard cross and take off. If only I was a better finisher on the left and didn't have to finger roll middle or cut back to the right so often... 😜 Anyway, great video! 😊
+Adrian Nacua I would say "That's a good thing!" but that depends on how good your right hand is (perhaps you're really good with both, just better with the left!), whether or not you can shoot well fading to the right (I can't, but I can to the left from in close), and whether or not you can get lefty layups up on the right side (totally a hip/shoulder/timing thing). I'm only 5-10/135, and I've never been particularly dangerous from 3 with a hand in my face (few are), so on days when my quickness or rhythm isn't there I'm kinda limited as a scorer against good defenders. That's when passing becomes even more important. But when it comes down to it, the most important thing to me has always been having enough skill that competing is more fun than frustrating 😄
Gmac I'm not a hater, watch Carmelo closely on his post ups. If you can't spot it then you don't know bball. Lebron travels too i agree and so do many others.
Ryan Jay Yes I'm a huge Melo fan, I know oftentimes he travels. Sometimes he gets called for it, sometimes he doesn't. Literally every star travels. Fact is Carmelo has one of the best offensive arsenals in the game. His jab step jumper is unstoppable and if you play him to close he can take you to the basket. He's also got a wet post fadeaway and a good up and under counter move, he's got a nice all around game.
Gmac I agree he does best in the post with his quickness and offensive moves although the footwork isn't perfect, However as for his all around game i think he does quite poorly with shot selection and playing as a team. His defensive awareness is lacking too but the effort is there unlike Harden.
I don't think you needed to put in the zach Randolph part, it's not very special at all, but instead of that you did a great job, keep posting this kind of videos, I'm subcribing to see that, man.
Hey COAH NICK we are waiting for your breakdown on Oklahoma City Thunder vs San Antonio Spurs game 2 ending there's a lot of violation Manu's foot on the line Kawhi grabs westbrook Waiters shoves manu Waiters jumps on inbound pass Clock starts early Foul on danny green Ibaka holding kawhi and aldrige Fan holds steven adams
If only memphis runs the triangle offense.. Just like the old laker bigs with gasol odom, bynum. They wouldnt be too predictable in the post and can have good spacing vs double teams. An ordinary low post offense is too predictable but not the triangle.
so much respect for Thomas looking like David in a sea of Goliaths

I love your work sir, please continue!!!!
+Ali Hassan Thanks! Lots more coming up.
This was a great episode. You could make this into a new series, highlighting one player per episode. It'd be really good to show the players 'base' move, and then show how they execute their 'counter-move' if the base move is not on.
+Campbell Peters for sure. Let's get Coach Turner on board!
More of that please ! The Content is awesome :)
awesome content!! these types of breakdowns would make a good series!
+vtownkid44 for sure. Thanks!
That Isaiah half spin is like that old Steve smith move
exactly. i thought the same
+Rhys-Jon Jenkins aka the smitty :)
Yes! And Chris Paul uses it a lot too with his left drive though
Isaiah's layups with the right hand jumping off the right foot are not only thought to throw off shotblockers' timing, primarily smaller and lighter guys use that kind of a layup because this way they can better lean into the defender who is on their left creating separation. +Ger Ski i never understood how he gets so many layups to go - till now. great vid
please breakdown Brian Scalabrine fade away 360 3pointer dunk.
he can also pull up from 30
LMAAAAAAAAOOOOOO GOOD ONE! Like it is impossible to fadeaway while shooting 3 and make a 360 dunk at the same time, but not for Scalabrine!
fuck hahahahaa
Love this Section Coach, for the next ep, can you breakdown Tim Duncan, Kobe, Dirk Post moves?? please

Really loving this breakdown of individual players skill-set! Looking forward to see more videos similar, hopefully, technical players like Gasol brothers, Chris Paul, Timmy, and etc.
Lebron James' goto move = the stepback from 19
Lebron James' counter move = the stepack from 25
First off, keep up the great work. Secondly, more of this series please!
Z Bo is pretty unstoppable. Think of a player with athleticism and Z Bo's skill level. They would be unreal.
+Adam Maund Yeah! He's amazing.
+Ezio Auditore olajuwon was much more skilled no disrespect to z bo
+onrry toussaint aloooooooooooot more skilled
+Adam Maund Pretty much what Laker fans like myself are hoping Julius Randle will turn out to be
A breakdown on CJ McCollum? That would be a good video.
I agree. Sorry for such a late response. He's definitely become one of my fav players. A great all around sg who improves every year
that hesi- pull up by KD is truly unguardable. John Salmons used it a lot but he was only 6'7. KD is 7ft and usually has a smaller guy on him. would love to see KD use it more often. especially for game winners or clutch shots
7ft ... really nigga
+Coach 7 ft? He's 6'9", but lengthy
+Ray Zhang na bruh he a legit 6'11 7ft look at him next to adams and ibaka
+dalton graham yup. he is definitely 7 foot. the 6'9 thing was like when he was a rookie or when he was younger. then he grew to 6'11 or 7 foot. the nba just doesn't officially update it. and don't base your facts on 2k either
+kay nine (kay9ine1) Durant's 6'11 in shoes
isaiah thomas's half spin is a amazing move. got to learn that one
Z,Bo footwork is awesome with baby soft hands around the rim, Isaiah gives inspiration to the small fellas, the hesitation is like the modern "Smitty" trademark, CP3 is pretty good at it also.
my thoughts exactly, i saw the move and i was like that's the smitty.

More Go To Moves, please!
Could you do a separate video to how Isaiah Thomas uses his strengths to his advantages? As a small guard, I'm just curious as to how he can compete at such a high level.
Ever Since those foot injuries from KD people really forgot how good of a scorer he is, easily still the best scorer in the game.
rt, he's got so many ways to break a defender down
Isaiah Thomas man, representing all the normal height folk. Definitely looking forward to seeing him more
do damian lillard
every big should study z-bo's moves. they are so easy and simple yet very tough to stop.
that half spin is interesting! spin moves are so tricky, disorienting for a split second but if you are ballerina with it you can concentrate for a pull up, or switch sides quickly
+andrew kim very similar to the smitty, but more subtle/quick
love this
Nice.😎
really good stuff, I'm a baller. & the summer time is here, 👀 can't wait for some more moves. "please" I would like to use them on the basketball courts.
Awesome! Please do more
if Julius Randle develops a jump shot like Z Bo watch out NBA. good video coach!
I was thinking the same thing. JR developing a consistent jumper is the absolute key. Watching and applying what Zbo does here in this breakdown would be a nice foundation. This was an excellent watch.

+Eric Place im a righty but my strong hand when it comes to finishing around the basket is my left. lol
Wow your really a hater, you know how many times LeBron travels?
Gmac I'm not a hater, watch Carmelo closely on his post ups. If you can't spot it then you don't know bball. Lebron travels too i agree and so do many others.
Ryan Jay

Back to Back Coach Nick???
I don't think you needed to put in the zach Randolph part, it's not very special at all, but instead of that you did a great job, keep posting this kind of videos, I'm subcribing to see that, man.
big guys get no respect nowadays.
what career would you have Randy Foye or Brandon Roy
Do James harden and am Jefferson next plz.BTW great work for this one
Har_en? His signature move is the flop in every single shot.
Lol, Harden hater spotted
Doawwn Bruhh Hater? I actually like him. You can't deny that he flops a lot. Like in every single shot he makes.
Alejandro Serrano thats called drawing a foul, MJ, Kobe, and D Wade all did it to, it's not floping, flopping is what Vlade Divac did.

We need one for Kyrie Irving. Very versatile scorer.
Hi Coach. Do you think OKC v SAS will be real Western Conference Finals.
No
If only memphis runs the triangle offense.. Just like the old laker bigs with gasol odom, bynum. They wouldnt be too predictable in the post and can have good spacing vs double teams. An ordinary low post offense is too predictable but not the triangle.
How did the Spurs get away with Cosbying OKC??
Do one on LeBron please
