I've had this guitar several months. Loved the looks. The richlite fingerboard is actually fantastic. I am a terrible guitar player but this has improved my a lot over cheap guitars I tried to learn on before. Never used the electonics other than the tuner. Koa looks spectacular. The black tuners and headstock are cool, too. I wanted a Nazareth Martin since I live near there, but the price is just too high for somebody at my level. I'll state the obvious, I guess....if you really want to learn guitar buy a good one. This is one.
In the Road series, there only 2 guitars that make sense. This on and the D-12 Sapele. Best bang for the Martin buck. Sapele is the new modern mohagony. Crisp but warm.
Koa is (I’m reliably informed) like mahogany but slightly more shimmery. However this guitar is not solid koa. But, you know, if it sounds good, it is good.

The koa is a thin veneer on the outside. The sound is in fact being reflected off the inner wood of African mahogany, probably sipo.
