First time hearing a Martin [in person] was an “oh sh!t” moment for me. Very first chord on a D-28 filled the entire room with so much balance and clarity… I’m a teacher, so it will be a longgggg time before that guitar finds its way in my budget. But I will have one before I die. For sure, D-28 is now my number one dream guitar.

The new Satin D28's are about $400 cheaper. Also, many places have payment plans. I just got my first Martin, it was $2000 and i pay $100 a month for two years approx. You can do it. Also, once you get an amazing high quality instrument, you play it more, cuz it's that much more enjoyable.

I have an OM28 and just love it but honestly any solid wood guitar should be checked out and played, Martins are great but there are others too. Don't get stuck on the name. Take the advice from someone who's been playing for the last 45 years. Happy hunting!

Try the D18, had the opportunity to buy one for myself, had to choose between that and the D28, went home with the D18, just records way better IMO

    • @jfar3340
      @jfar3340 ปีที่แล้ว

@@tinongtravels7182 D18 is better than the D28 for sure. I prefer the HD28 for its ''reverb like'' character (scalloped braces), but it's more scooped than the D18, which is more middy and more woody dare I say b/c of the mahogany. Anyway cant go wrong with these dreadnoughts.

I bought my dad a D-41 for his 70th birthday. His first ever, and now I am hooked on wanting one next. The family history is a plus, as was meeting Chris Martin (former CEO of the company) in person recently. Much more than just a guitar, more like a lifelong piece of history and art.

In 2008 I got my first job after grad school and I had always wanted a Gibson J-45. I was playing an ancient Epiphone at the time and I decided to treat myself. I could never find a J-45 I liked and the salesman in the shop gave me a D28 to try. It was perfect, bought it the next day. Still have it, never selling. If I were to get another Martin it would be that 000-15M. My dream guitar would be the 1937 D28 Authentic I suppose.

The dream Martin I now own is a Martin D-17 Gloss Top mahogany that they stopped making in the early 2000s (not the new D-17s with the stained spruce or shark). The only gloss top and binding Martin mahogany series ever made. It's super warm with a bright shine, and I love it so much! When you're playing it, it sounds super boomy and massive, but as soon as you back away a bit it turns into this really balanced sound. That allows it to fit into a mix without being too muddy, but still have that massive feel. Gotta love that Martin sound!

Love the sound of the 10k one. With age comes wisdom and in some cases being able to afford the guitars we sometimes desire. I think of it as a nice separate 401k plan that when I leave this world my loved ones can enjoy them or release them back into the used market. Keep up the good videos. I truly appreciate them.

Thanks for the vid. Love the SC13. I bought a D41 Ambertone from Sweetwater in March of this year at 53 after years of saving up for it. I've played various acoustic cutaways live over the last 30 years or so just plugged in with Piezo pickups. I bought a Fishman Aura box a few years ago and that helped but nothing sounds as great as a well mic'd high-end Martin in a live setting for a one man acoustic act. It has changed my whole stage setup and I shed several pedals and now just use two mics on one stand, and I also now sit to perform so I can mic that gorgeous guitar to give the instrument and the fine folks at Martin guitars their proper due. In the 25 years of performing prior I always stood to play but this is one guitar worth sitting down for and is by far the nicest instrument I've ever played or owned.

A long, long time ago (1966) I owned a D-28. It was a fine instrument. Several years later I found a D-41 that was a good guitar as well. I’m not a guitarist but both my wife and son are. She has a 1989 J-40 rosewood that has Martin low end for days. Plays it all the time as a worship leader. She just gave her 1971 000-18 to our son to use in his Nashville recording studio. She bought it new for $300 in 1972. He has an all mahogany 00-15. We just saw a gorgeous GPCe-28 with Baggs Anthem in a shop near us and we’re deeply tempted by her “next” dream guitar. . . but $3300 short on cash. Definitely a Martin family.

My lifetime favorites, retirement guitars; OM-18 Authentic (Adirondack 0ver Mahogany), Custom Shop OM-28 (Alpine over Madagascar), Custom Shop 00-42 (Adirondack over Madagascar) and the "Lady" 2005 OM-45 (curly Engelmann over flamed Tasmanian Blackwood, alternate torch, carved gold tuners). I sold a few others on along the way as I worked my way up with some good guitar trades. Previously had a D16e and 000M. Good but not the full house Martin sound like my D35 and the D12-28. #3 is an OMC16e Ovankol with Fishman Matrix electronics for playing out. The Ovankol has alot of midrange punch while maintaining the bass and crisp highs Martin is known for. Something about the upper end Martins that just feel good in the hand and please the ear like no other. Any of the 15 series or above fit the bill for me.

A few years ago I FINALLY got my bucket list acoustic. The almighty HD28. It still smells like a cabinet shop every time I open the case. This thing is a cannon and it never ceases to amaze me that that kind of sound can come out of a wood box with strings on it. At 62 I finally bought my first Martin, an OM-28. The 28 has the best bang for the buck sound wise...particularly compared to the 42. Ive had a Lawsuit Takaminie HD-28 (solid top, lam back and sides) since 1978 and for what it is it does sound great. The OM-28 though, in addition to being so much more lively because its solid wood, is WAY more balanced. As a day 1 JM fan I looked at his OM JM version but the wider fingerboard works for his massive hands but not my humans sized hands. The OM at 1 3/4 is still wider than my dreadnaught which is perfect for all those expensive JM chords

Mike I have an HD 28 and I play in a cover band in which I have to switch often between electric and acoustic. When I discovered the SC13, I thought it would be the guitar I had always dreamed of: electric guitar neck and cutaway in a Martin package. Such a disappointment. Quality problems from the start, including the pickup..and though I tried to have it set up properly I just couldn't rationalize all the difficulties for a guitar of its caliber and cost. So back to the HD28 I went, which has been a reliable workhorse for me, though I'm not sure it's worth the retail cost of almost $3,000, especially considering some of the great boutique guitars out there.
I'd be curious to know what you thought of it, and anyone else out there who has played one. Was I just unlucky, or did Martin really take a great idea and blow it?

One of the guitars I once owned was a player grade 1965 Martin 00018. I got it on trade and did a complete overhaul - neck reset, refret, new bridge, saddle, and nut, had some cracks repaired, etc. One of the best guitars I have ever played. I have owned over 50 acoutstic guitars and this is one I wish I had never gotten rid of. Some others on the list are a custom shop Gibson SJ200, a boutique guitar called "Grace" amde by Luthier Lyle Crawford that was a koa body, my first "high end" guitar - a Taylor 114ce. I will own another vintage 00018 one day. For now my go to is a Bamburg SJB. If you haven't heard of Jeff Bamburg - look him up. He builds stuff that will blow your socks off.

Thank you.. you’re a great player. I own a 000-16 SGT. It was a budget compromise from the Eric Clapton model. As much as I like the Dreadnaughts, they’re just a bit too big for casual playing around the house.

I went to buy an HD-28 last month. I ended up bringing home a Lowden S-32c. After really comparing the brands, I would probably buy a high-end Yamaha or a Boucher over a Martin. They're still amazing guitars, I just find the others to be my preference.

@A I've seen a few of his videos, but I've always liked Yamaha. I got to liking the Boucher when I was trying out dreadnoughts. Martin is a safe choice, but you pay more for the name.

I own a Martin D-28 and I consider it my dream guitar. No matter how I'm playing it never lets me down. If something sounds less than good or great it's definitely not the guitar's fault. Mine is one of the Reimagined models from 2018. If you look up the artists through the years who have played a D-28 the list goes on and on. It's one of the most iconic models in the history of Martin guitars. Thanks for the interesting video.

I liked the OMC-28e (cutoff - not currently in production) I was trying out in 2018. Smoothest playing acoustic ever. Easier for me to play than the Collings OM-2H I ultimately bought, but the Martin had slightly less sparkle and clarity.

My only Martin is an OM-28 reimagined, and it's by far the best guitar I've ever owned. I played about thirty different OM-28s in the years leading up to the purchase, and this one was by far my favorite--worth the wait!
If I ever got another Martin it would probably be a D-18, or maybe a O0-18 or 000-18.

All Martin guitars, just like all Taylor guitars, sound and play great (in all price ranges).
After years of thought, I decided to buy the venerable D18. Absolutely loved it. Then, I played the D28. I liked the sound better, but the appearance of the D18 better.
Then, I came across a lonely DSS 17. A sloped-shoulder Martin? The strings were ancient, but I was intrigued.
I walked in to purchase a D18, left that day with the DSS 17, and did so without a single regret.
They were all incredible, but the DSS 17 was the best for me.

I've owned 4 Martins: a 1926 Koa O18K, a 1968 00-18, a 1989 000-21 (custom,) and a 1996 D-18 Golden Era. The one I still own and play is a 00-18 made in 1968. It's not terribly rare and not from a famous era, but it is a great guitar- balanced, dry, loud, and punchy.

My first Martin was a D28 bicentennial ,then I got a D18 vintage series, a couple of D35s, a DC16-GTE. Then i got a Takamine Lawsuit D-28, which was cool. Of course all over the years I've had to part with all of them, and now I have a Taylor 200 model. The only one I really want now is a D-41 DF, the Dan Fogelberg model, or at least an older D-41. Life deals her blows, perhaps I will survive long enough to get one someday.

I bought a U.S made 00CX1AE in 2004, because $600 was as much as I could afford. I love that thing! It’s thin-bodied and easy to play, it sounds relatively full and as far as intonation goes it’s as stable as anything. I now have other prettier, solid wood guitars that I expected to supplant my laminate Martin, but my 00CX1AE is still my usual go-to.

I loved your guitar with the cutaway was a great solid choice, but my favourite tones were the D-18 can't match a dreadnought resonance, but the D-45 was almost the same fantastic sounds but less of a sized guitar, So I'd like the D-45
