The Hawkins bros are a fine example of what brothers should be together united for rock! The Robinson and the Gallaghers should take note ! Cheers mate! 3:47
Dan! This is Mat Mclean. You look EXACTLY the same as when as I last saw you in a rehearsal room in 1999!! Yes I was your co-session drummer with Liz Horseman!. They were fun times! I think I had a little TOO much fun, hence the departure, but it led to other things, as these things do!! Lovely to see you and looking so well my dear. xx
Justin / Dan, if Hasbro can crowd fund products why cant The Darkness crowd fund a video shoot! For each level of investment offer a different level of "extras" ie behind the scenes videos of it being shot, stills, concept art (?), interviews, early access to the video etc........mostly what us fans get out of it is pride and the feeling of involvement.......do it man, I reckon you guys would have great support from some very cool people that just want to see you guys produce something visually amazing!
This really touched me, two incredibly talented icons in your own rights and adding the sibling connection and how you can both chop it up together and bring your own individual and strong opinions, while being respectful and really hearing each other. Love the both of ya.

Keep up the amazing work and I'll see you this winter as we all celebrate 20 years of the greatest album of all time.

Died in the wool Darkness fan here. Interesting to hear the thought process of Justin and Dan on their output. I’m probably in the minority but I really enjoyed some of the more experimental stuff that they have done. I loved the concepts of Last Of Our Kind and Easter Is Cancelled. I’d rather they take risks and some of it not pay off than putting out straight up rock albums every 2-3 years. Hopefully these intentions translate into some interesting material
No, I loved Easter Is Cancelled too. Deck Chair is one of my favorite songs ever and that is not a traditional Darkness song. So, if they were trying to do "traditional" Darkness songs all the time we wouldn't end up with songs that are so beautiful!
100%. Those are two of my favorite albums. And Last of Our Kind is stone-cold one of the best Darkness albums of all time. I really think it's one of the most best rock Albums of the last decade.
Thirty minutes in…loving this so much! Thanks for having Dan, he’s super rad and it’s cool to hear more from/about him! You two are the Coolest brothers in Rock 🤘🤘🤘
Wow, I'm pleasantly surprised to see Dan! Super entertaining, while still being casual and comfortable - you two seem like you have an amazing relationship. So fun hearing stories from the early days and karaoke 😂 I can't wait to hear what The Darkness' new album will be titled!
I've got to say, That every time I watch your show, Im a little more amazed by the humanity of the members of the Darkness.(rockstars) My favorite part is the Love, laughter and respect between to brothers, and the relationship of fellow musicians in the same band! Hi Justin any chance you could film the recording of the album in dans studio, would be good to see the process, you guys are so close and funny, would make a great film 🤘🎸👍
Dan singing "My heart will go on" in a Karaoke is the greatest visual document ever seen! 😂 I have reminded one karaoke play station which one friend of mine had at home. When you started singing the chosen song it appeared a line in the screen... It marked if you followed the right tone. If you didn't there was a voice telling you "deaf contestant"😂 I loved see you, it was a funny episode today! ❤
2 absolute legends I remember when their band hit the scene just straight up rocking sings ,was a relief compared to alot of what was happening musically
I've never seen anything with Dan where he wasn't great to watch or listen to and this was no exception 🙂 Highly entertaining! Favorite part? The Celine Dion karaoke!! Nearly broke me 😂
Great discussion, lots of laughs, thank you from Cleveland, Ohio. Met the Darkness when you guys first came to town and had your little meet and greet at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Keep rockin', guys. Keep having fun.
Thoroughly enjoyed this in it’s entirety gentlemen. Great fun, wonderful anecdotes. A special walk down memory lane. Thank you for your duo greatness. The handsome Hawkins brothers. A joy to witness your beautiful bond. Thank you. ❤❤

@@alomon7738 I think I'd read he was originally a drummer. Either way, I'm glad he ended up on guitar. His solo's always remind me melodically of a mix between George Harrison and Angus Young in the best way.
My favorite part is you-guys inside jokes. That I had no idea of what you were talking about, but was very very funny. And when you were telling stories about your Dad. And... the countless rolled "cigarettes" and beers. Very amusing!
As podcast host this was really interesting to watch. The difference is its not an interview, its more of a chat between brothers talking about stuff they have done together. Really great to watch and given me a few ideas ❤😊
Greetings from Nashville! The Darkness needs to play the Ryman auditorium here -- that would be epic. Love the channel and really enjoyed the back-and-forth with your brother!
It is incredible to notice how their voices can be so similar and yet so different. The timbers are familiar, I mean, the colors of their voices kind of have the same noticeable genetic traits... but Dan has a much lower tone of voice, while Justin really shows that he is the guy with that leading voice bright gift. Congratulations, guys. I'm a singer and you have made me enjoy music again! Thank you so much! From Brazil.
I loved this! Watched a lot of it on my lunch break at work and was laughing my head off at my desk (thankfully everyone else was still at lunch). I really wanna hear Dan sing Delilah now!
We need a Part 2 of this. Superb! It has taken me a week to watch this as I went away for a few days after starting to watch. One of the funniest things I have seen for a while, but the mutual respect and brotherly bond shines through, despite everything they have been through. I say despite because don't forget, Justin buggered off for a while and left the guys in the lurch for a couple or so years which must have caused some rancour at the time maybe? But here they are now as strong as ever, making great music and making us laugh with tales of the Darkness antics from the past. Loved the part when they suddenly realised they were talking about the same gig. Boys eh? LOL ❤
There is a special bond with siblings and this comes across here! Brilliant stuff about kicking a*se on stage - I'm in a weekend cover band in Edinburgh and get a lesser but similar feeling - Forget the bins and the painting to be done and get out there and kick some a*se! Only a cover band but it keeps us going!
🎉If you haven’t heard his band Stone Gods before you’re missing tf out! Silver Spoons and Broken Bones is a great album. At least as good as any Darkness album.😊
This is amazing watching 2 brothers, 2 band mates, 2 musicians talk music also I believe in a thing called love first song I learnt to play, could watch you both talk all night, England's finest
Flares!!? Can't wait to actually see them! 👀 By this point the black leather jacket is just Dan's personal, mobile sauna that he can take everywhere he goes to. 😅 Oh yeah, the white tee. Please give it another go, maybe sleeveless??👌Since I've had this new job, less running for me too, it sucks the life - no, the joy of living - out of me. Wow, what details of live production techniques, you both having discerning ears and eyes of course! What songs are you going to play on the PTL 20 tour? More B-sides and less often heard ones, please. 🙏🏻🙏🏻 Yes, I still want to buy an LP. It's exciting to wait for a new album to drop. 👍 Listening to interesting stuff here... The computers'll definitely screw up when they're supposed to mimick Dan's singing. 😂 Aw, love that your Dad went with you to buy you some gear and how seriously and honestly astounded he must have reacted with that guy weirdly and loudly singing Black Magic Woman into the microphone! 😅 Several great, great stories!! Crawling up the stairs on all fours with International Dave!! 😂 Loved them, thank you both. 🙂👍🏼
I truly enjoyed and appreciated seeing Justin and Dan talking away like two close friends. Such a far cry from many band mates who do not always share a common respect for each other. These two actually dearly care for each other and have a great repour together as band mates and brothers. Plus they show real interest in each others artistic views about the musical direction the band might pursue and agree on what they would like in the overall process. Great insight into how these two very talented artists interact with each other. We need more!!
two super heroes saving rock n roll for all of us, every time Dan is talking and pauses for even a brief moment, I keep thinking another amazing guitar riff just came to him. He is a riff machine , a proper real deal guitar god. Dan is so awesome and he just said 'bits and bobs'' which is fucking awesome !
Loved this and have the following comments. Dan's assertion about album tracks being sometimes the best is bang on as well as b-sides. I really love Tollund Man, Planning Permission and Five Times (currently my most listened to TD song at the moment. Hammer and Tongs is still a great song, and that whole album is a gem, I particularly like Conquerors.
I was waiting for this episode so much!! I’ve been a massive fan of you both for ages! Glad to find out that you get along so well and both are so knowledgable!
Wow...Dan really channeled John Lennon’s look in this one It was the first thing I thought upon seeing him 😂 Great convo...enjoyed your easy brotherly vibe.
ALBUMS! The deeper tracks are the ones that people will hang on to.. shows the real character of the band as a whole- the singles are gloss..normally..unless you are Queen!
Lovely episode with Dan! Great to hear about those early demos and hand written lyrics and album title suggestions. I can't wait for the super duper deluxe over the top 20th Anniversary box of Permission to Land. Loved the discussion on albums versus singles and the "grid" versus making art. I have personally loved The Darkness because of the musical diversity. It would have been easy to ride the PTL template and drive that into the ground. I respect what The Darkness stands for and am probably more excited for the new music you create in the future than the PTL 2O. I love new music, keep it going Hawkins brothers!
In reference to Dan. Composing a song should be a natural progression without the nonsense of many charts. Makes perfect sense to me. Thoroughly enjoyed the brother Hawkins interaction. Very special. ❤❤
Really great chat between the brothers Hawkins. Nice laid back discussion, talking generally about the music industry etc. Albums are still the best way because some tracks are hidden gems. EPs are great but the content has to be vetted to make the cut whereas album tracks are a mish-mash and the ones that aren't stand out tracks become cult hits.
This was an awesome interview! I too just saw The Lemon Twigs -- because of you Justin, through this channel. l first found Starcrawler (excellent in concert btw) which ultimately led me to The Twigs. They were so humble, surprised they had filled The Great Hall in Toronto. I cannot stop playing Everything Harmony! Looking forward to seeing The Darkness in Detroit, and hopefully Toronto!
Thank you for doing this, to the both of you. Enjoyed so much about this convo. Esp love the story about the “perfect” mic placement. My wife & friend met you guys at an In-store appearance here in Atlanta, Georgia, circa early 2000s. She says you guys were hilarious & later, put on a killer show. No surprise

I look forward in anticipation to the next Darkness album being more experimental as per Dan's suggestion!
ALBUMS! The deeper tracks are the ones that people will hang on to.. shows the real character of the band as a whole- the singles are gloss..normally..unless you are Queen!
Get Dan on again as this was a great episode. Loved all the stories.
Absolutely bloody loved this, really felt like I was sat there! So natural and so entertaining, love it!❤
In reference to Dan. Composing a song should be a natural progression without the nonsense of many charts. Makes perfect sense to me. Thoroughly enjoyed the brother Hawkins interaction. Very special. ❤❤
By far my most favourite video here on TH-cam ❤
Hold up. When did Justin start smoking on camera? Very insightful conversation. Can't wait for the 20th anniversary tour.
Yes so cool, thank you 💓
It's been a while since the bins were mentioned, I'm glad to hear about them again 😂
Love the etiquette lesson of crawling up the stairs 😂😂
As one of the 20 people who listen to BBC Staffordshire, you've made me sad Justin.
This takes me all the way back to Yoxford primary ..... you guys and the band are awesome. What a journey you're on. Tip top. 😊
No surprise
Loved this episode. You've inspired me to get in touch with my brother right away ❤
Looking forward to see the Darkness in Hyde Park this week!
