For Kimono/Yukata, the Left-side always comes on the outside. This is true for all Japanese clothing including Judo, Kendo, or Karate. The only time Japanese wear the Right-side on the outside is for funerals. (The dead are clothed that way too.)
When summer comes, I remember the Gion Festival and this upload. Seems so hot and humid in Kyoto in July. Unfortunately due to the global pandemic this year, I heard that the festival was canceled in 2020.
