    I lived in that area. The whole area is still doing shitty. Notice how often lakeland, Clearwater, Tampa and Polk county are mentioned in the news. It's called a curse.
    There's an area around Texas like that too.
    If you want to look up the lynchings in MANOR, TEXAS around the 20s there's a story of an innocent black man being dragged to death by a car through manor Texas and to this day nothing prospers in that area.

    • @achristine80
      @achristine80 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I live close to Manor, Texas. And you’re right, many towns with a bad history tend to decline or just never prosper. I think the reason behind this is that once something horrible happens, people move away, and no one wants to live there. This makes the local economy fail. There becomes a lack of funds for upkeep in the community. Property taxes plunder devaluing the property and the homes. I hate to say it, and it’s so unfair, but the poor have to move where they can afford to live. The inner cities within Texas (Manor being on the outskirts) are so incredibly expensive. The average price for a home in Texas is over 300k.😮

I just told him to watch and listen. He was riveted. Not saying a word throughout. When the episode ended. He looked at me and just quietly said "Whoa." I explained that this is the stuff that certain parties in America still want to suppress and deny; the ugly truth they want to keep swept under the carpet. This is the stuff people don't want other generations to learn about and feel angry about because of how brutally wrong it was and is. Keep doing the good work, Jiles.

    Thank you for this video. I don't believe i have ever seen this covered so thoroughly anywhere online. I saw the movie as a child in the 90s and that was horrific but this opens up a whole new window on the scope of the thing. I have lived in rural north Florida a little farther north of Rosewood most of my life and sadly many people still harbor terrible prejudice and a shocking number of towns up here remain de facto segregated to this day. It's incredible to me. People need to know history.
    In a postscript, you mentioned it was unusally cold for Florida when the survivors had to take refuge but what many outside the state don't know is that throughout the fall, winter and spring months, we often experience very cold temperatures for prolonged periods of time. The weather up here in north Florida is much closer to that of inland Georgia and Alabama and i am glad that more didn't die of simple exposure on top of the insane violence. Thanks again for your work. This is an excellent channel.

    I am so glad you covered this. I was an outsider moving to Florida, like everyone seems to do, for a short time. So I didn't know the whole story about Rosewood, but a lot of people talked about it. My boss's parents were white people from Rosewood. They said that really, the more successful people in the town were black, because they came from people who were used to working hard, and they built businesses people could depend on. If you wanted quality work done on your car, it was the black community you took your car to. Same with all the businesses. So there was o crowd of whites who were used to the better people being the black community of Rosewood, and a crowd of whites who were jealous. You really covered this well.

    I know that movies about true events usually put a spin on certain things for dramatic purposes or entertainment. but the movie "Rosewood" directed by John Singleton really changed up a few of those incidents so much that I don't even know if I want to watch it again. Great to hear a more accurate portrayal of what happened

    I was a history minor, and digging up these stories of Black communities burned to the ground just makes the 'pull yourself up by your bootstraps' contention all the more infuriating.
    I will find your official submission process, but I'd love if, for Black History Month, you did a couple of shorts like this - Rosewood is an excellent start, but few people know about Seneca Village. The horrifying story of Black Wall Street in Tulsa would be a great topic, I think.
    ...and for this is monsters, maybe a story about the first Black American serial killer on record.

    I contacted you maybe two years ago, berating you about how one of your videos on TIM was racist. The video was NOT racist, I just reacted. I was obnoxious, belligerent, invasive, nasty, just downright rude. It was cowardly. I never would have done so in person.
    As a Black man, I carry the same pain that provoked my outburst everywhere I go 24/7. It’s like I’m living with an open wound gushing from my chest that people like to prod. This isn’t a justification, it’s an explanation.
    Thank you for this video. The wound I described is patched up, treated, and allowed to heal with every bit of content like this on the internet. Even comments give me hope. Knowing that there are allies out there that are unafraid and unwavering in their expression of solidarity is the light at the end of this seemingly endless tunnel. ❤

      I assure you, I never mean to put out any content that may be taken as racist, but I’m human and I may word something wrong. I am always open to constructive feedback in those situations. I personally find the whitewashing of history in the country to be sad and we can only learn from our mistakes if we accept that they happened. I hope you continue to find healing in your life, but I totally get it if you still feel pain. Take care of yourself!

      @@SomewhereSinister I want to clarify for anyone who sees this that the video I was angry about WAS NOT RACIST. It struck a personal nerve and I reacted. Was NOT the fault of TIM.
      Thank you for your response. It means a lot. Seriously ❤️

      None of these stories have been white washed, if anything it's the opposite. Most people in the world have relatives in their bloodline that were slaves at sometime. If you consider wage slavery then we are all still slaves. This story teller is forced to tell a story a certain way to appeal to broader demographics.

    • @SomewhereSinister
      @SomewhereSinister  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @james robbins That is complete and utter bullshit and you know it. I don't believe you are so stupid that you believe everyone has been slaves and it completely negates the slavery that happened in the US. What else do you believe? The holocaust didn't happen? School shootings are all hoaxes? Put down the koolaid. No, I tell these stories accurately to help offset people like you who want to ban books about slavery and racism in the US. Why are white Americans so afraid for people to know the truth about how we've treated (or still treat) African Americans, Asian Americans, and Native Americans? It's pretty telling.
      Please, do something to better yourself because with what you say now, you're either incredibly stupid or incredibly racist and neither are a good look.

    • @jamesrobbins2736
      @jamesrobbins2736 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SomewhereSinister Do you think you're going to end racism telling stories one sided the way you do? Acknowledging there was slavery since like the beginning of humans does not negate the slavery that took place in the US. All stories should be told accurately in their entirety. The US had a movement to end slavery after all the centuries of it being common. Why not be proud of that? Why make white Americans evil villains until the end of time? Your stories are black washed just like MSM did to the Jussie Smollett or Jordan Neely cases.
