Thanks for this, I have had this set of shifters apart in a bag for over a decade. This has helped get them back together, awesome!

This is awesome! The 5:42 guidance was game changing in making this work for me. Other viewers note that depending on the mechanical version of this shifter that you have (i believe there are 2 version), you may only have one washer to add at 13:24. Thanks for sharing these videos!

Cheers, yes 2 versions (maybe 3), I did a video of the other. Only the 3 speed side is different if I recall

I took this thing apart without a manual in 1995 it was a pain in the ass to get it in the right position with the feders and everything without TH-cam. I managed it after a whole day to get it back together 😅 A friend sold it to me fallen apart and i upgraded my Mountainbike to Deore Dx shifters on that day . My father said to me , you will never ever manage to get it back all together.

You are a legend ATBOY!. I have a ST-M020 7 spd that is in serious need of a rebuild. Can I use something you have already posted as a guide? I have looked everywhere, you have the only reference I can find. Anybody here have any helpful input? Thanks and Thanks ATBOY for your awesome videos.

Have you seen the video of the ST M050? Ressembles the M020 a lot more and likely same mecanism inside

Thanks so much for this. With mine, the top screw that holds it to the lever housing fell out while riding. I put it back together and it all seems to work OK, but the shifter doesn't stay in position- it always jumps back down to the smallest sprocket. I've taken the lower cover off and removed the mech from the lever housing and it looks like everything is together correctly.
The main (outer) pawl looks to be doing what it should, but I can't see how the mechanism is meant to stay at the set point (in the selected gear)- is it those inner pawls that handle this?
