Are current XT and XTR derailleur cage upper pivot bushings still steel and hardened / durable ? Are older ones from the 1990's and early 2000's better .
@@gongalab How do you rate the 739 from 1996/7 , the 770 from 2001 and the 771 from 2002 ? I have new old stock of these . I have the 739 SGS on my Trek 4300 custom build and so far so good .
Normaly best test is to dismantle it and test it by hand grinder and comparing it among others. We noticed within history examination that 2 same rd s but different origin made in Malaysia or indonesia had different types of materials despite same series of RD. So your question is more for the shimano marketing what strategy they have with different origins. We have a collection of few hundreds of worn bushing pins from last 10 years but mostly rapid cases happened in last 7 years which indicates that changes happened in recent history. Im mechanical engineer and i open any arm to inspect and if seeing wear then we make better one which last forever and changing only locking pins which cost few cents.

Yes the history shows the older the better . New ones really can grind off easily with hand grinder.

This literally depends on gear and chain crossing pattern habits due to each individual riding styles rather than just series of rd
