  • Modifying Huina RC dump truck part 2 using WPL B-16, 1/16 scale 6 wheel drive (6x6) RC military truck undercarriage with high torque motor and 2 speed gearbox also used Fly Sky FS-i6S RC radio and 10 channel receiver, micro servo for steering, micro actuator servo to lift dump bed, micro servo to shift gear box, 30A Electronic Speed Controller (ESC) and electronic switch to turn lights on and off. Huina dump truck came with hard plastic tires/wheels and no suspension and would get stuck on almost any surface also the dump bed would not go up high enough to empty the box. With the use of the WPL 6x6 undercarriage, soft rubber tires, independent suspension, high torque motor with 2 speed gearbox this truck can handle most any terrain and any load. With the long stroke micro actuator servos long travel the dump bed will raise high enough to empty the box. The wheel base between the Huina dump truck and the WPL B-16 army truck were almost identical but there where a few differences between the frames / body's making for an interesting modification and machining an aluminum spacer plate to accommodate these differences and the strength to attach the micro actuator servo anchor for support to lift the dump bed. All and all this was a very fun modification and update build.

    Hi again, thank you for all of your help. I'm a bit confused on how to wire the truck. How do I connect multiple items to the power source? BTW I'll be 68 Sept. and I really enjoy this hobby and the way it challenges me to be creative.

      Hi Mike I subscribed to you're channel and thank you for all of your video's they are fun to watch, I wish I had a wonderful place like yours to play inside. I to really enjoy this hobby and I have RC everything plus my machine shop and a few others that will remain nameless and my wife will tell you I have to many LOL.
      How ever if you have watched some of my other video's during the winter months I get to play with the really Big Boy Toys in the Snow. I am retired but work seasonal for the City of Casper in Wyoming and I'm a PB driver (PistenBully) and I groom the ski trails for Hogadon Basin Ski Area here with a PistenBully 400 snowcat I've been doing this for 9 years but have been running snowcats for many years before that.
      So as far as power you will be connecting to your Radio Control onboard receiver to one of the empty locations to connect a servo or in some cases an Electronic Speed Controller (ESC) to operate electric motors or an Electric Switch (ES) to turn on lights and other electric devices. These devises from your ESC or ES need to be rated for 6VDC. The linear actuators that i use to lift the dump bed connect directly to the Receiver one receiver location for each actuator, I guess you could use a Y splitter but I programed the 2 channels to operate together with the use of one switch on my transmitter.

      Hi Mike I wanted to make one observation after looking at you're video's, it looks like your Huina 573 (Huina 1582) dump trucks are newer than my truck and when you dump a load the bed goes up higher than my unmodified truck did. The reason I mention this is because there might be some subtle differences between these trucks. One that is painfully apparent is they both get stuck way to easy and have No Suspension and the hard plastic tires really suck plus only the rear tires drive. Cheers; Markus

    To raise the dump bed there are 2 Actuonix Linear actuators L12 these are listed in the description above.

      Just a quick note to let you know that the liner actuators I have listed above are no longer available on Amazon but can be purchased directly from Actuonix in Canada for about $70.00 USD www.actuonix.com/l12-50-210-6-r make sure that you are looking at the L12-R actuators 210:1 ratio 50mm stroke 6VDC and then you can run them directly from your RC receiver.

    Your video is fantastic! Thank you. Can you explain how you made your adapter plate please? Also you stated that you "milled" some of the aluminum. What tool do I need to be able to do that and how much do I remove?

    • @snocatfun
      @snocatfun  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Mike thank you so much for you're kind comments and for subscribing to the channel.
      I'm not sure how to explain how I made my adapter plate so I'll start by saying that I have a small home machine shop in which I have 2 Lathes, 2 bench top Milling machines (one is a CNC machine), stick and wire welders, TIG welder, plasma cutter, 40 watt laser, SainSmart 3D printer, CNC engraver, stand-alone drill press, 10 ton hydraulic press and many more tools that are necessities you might find in a machine shop.
      So when I talked about milling my adapter plate I took a small bar of Aluminum 1/2" x 3" x 11" long and machined it to fit between the upper half of the Huina 573 dump truck frame and the WPL military truck lower frame. So the Huina dump truck frame was slightly narrower than 3" so I machined the bar to a width of 2.820" the same width of the Huina frame using a end mill cutter 3/8" in the milling machine.
      Next I cut away more material using the milling machine to match and leave holes in the bar stock to match the cross members in the WPL military truck frame and to leave room for the WPL electric motor and transmission that also gave me material to drill and tap holes to mount the WPL frame to the adapter plate. Also I needed room for the dump bed lift servos/ liner actuators to go from the adapter plate to the dump bed. One other reason to machined away Aluminum material was to reduce some of the weight as the bar stock was a little heavy.
      I know it would be a lot more work but I think a person (who doesn't have the machine tools) could drill holes in the corners and use a hacksaw and cut out these locations but it would be a lot of work to do that. Then you would use a file to clean up the saw marks and sharp edges.
      I hope this information will be of some help in making the modifications to your vehicle. Cheers; Markus

      Oh also Mike I hope you have a chance to look at video's part 3 and part 4. In video part 3 I completely take the adapter plate out to give you a better look at the Aluminum bar stock and the locations that I milled out with the Milling machine. Cheers; Markus

      Thank you. Q. Do you have an adapter plate that I can buy? I am an older person, 67, and don’t think I have the contacts to have one milled. If not, do you think plexi glass is ok to use?

    • @snocatfun
      @snocatfun  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Mike, we are the same age I turn 68 in May of this year LOL. No I don't offer an adapter plate for sale this plate took many hours of work to get to where it is today. I absolutely like you're idea of using Plexi Glass for the adapter, If I was to do this again I think I'd try you're idea and see how it would work and you can drill and tap Plexi if your careful. Yes it would need to be some hard plastic material that you are able to cut, drill and tap also maybe grind with a Dremel die grinder very nice idea. Cheers: Markus

    You were right I found the upgrade for the FlySky fsi6s for the throttle centering but as far as I know one was not included with the radio when I received it. My problem is with that radio the dials on channel six and seven for operating the tracks are self-centering but when centered the tracks still want to move like there is a very thin distance between neutral forward and reverse and I don't know how to fix this

    I’d like to know more about the bar stock you used. A more in-depth video of your mods, would be even better, for those of us that would and are making modifications to our Hunia and Top Race dump trucks. I’m especially interested in the placement and type of rams you used for the bed. Your mods are by far the best I’ve come across so far. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

    • @snocatfun
      @snocatfun  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Rickie thank you so much for the interest and comments, I understand completely about a more in-depth video on the Huina/Top Race dump truck mods. This was one of those things that I should have been recording while I was making the mods and up-dates. This has been a work in progress to get this far with many different steps and mods to get to where I am today. I just made an additional up-date with the addition of duel tires and wheels for the rear of the truck as I didn't think it looked right with only single tires and wheels. I was able to purchase aluminum duel wheels on Ebay that work great with the tires I already have on hand.
      The linear actuators that I use to raise the dump bed use the brackets that came with the actuators and they are anchored to the spacer plate (adapter plate) at the bottom and the other end attaches to the same location as the original lift assembly on the bottom of the bed. The adapter plate I used was a piece of 3" x 3/8" Aluminum bar stock that I had on hand and If I was to do this again I believe I'd use a piece of 3"x 1/4" stock as this would save on weight. I do have to say that I started with one actuator then went to 2 actuators because the single would not lift the bed under-load and even with the two servos /actuators it is marginal at best lifting a heavy load.
      With your comments I believe I'll do a disassembly / re-assembly video here shortly and hopefully this will help to answer some of you're questions, part 2 was an after thought as there really wasn't any information with regard to the mods I started with, so part 3 should give additional information. In the future when I start these projects I'll start with video of all the machine work that I do as I have even done some additional machining to the adapter plate because the new duel tires rubbed on the plate. It seams like anytime I want to make changes I almost have to start over LOL
      Anyway It's been a fun project and will likely do more in the future just because it's fun! Thanks again Rickie for your comments. Cheers Markus
