What sucks is most games now are released without physical copies available. Even physical copies eventually go bad or become damaged. That why in all honesty I’m okay with ROMS, emulation and even just down right piracy 🏴☠️. Without piracy some movies, games, music would be lost to time eventually due to the rights holders not producing new mediums for newer technologies (VHS, cassette tapes etc). 28 days later was never available legally in a digital format to stream for yearssss and physical copies on eBay are around 80 and up. There are ways around DRM which is nice I fully support and respect people who are doing the lords work preserving all this media. So, regarding Pokemon infinite Fusion: The AI dex entries are placeholders until custom entries are written and inserted into the game. As for the sprite removals, the artists knew from the very START that they would relinquish any control they had over the sprites, which isn't much considering they don't own the designs they are based on. That was in the community guidelines from day one. This is nothing more than a nothingburger started by someone with a stick up their butt.
If artists relinquish all control over the sprites, why is there a removal request process in the first place? Adding AI into a mod made possible by a ton of artists seems a bit tactless to say the least. Refusing to remove their work will also likely limit how many people contribute in the future, not wishing to be associated with a project using AI. Is it really worth it for some randomly generated "lore" that won't even make any sense in the first place? Who asked for placeholders.
@@AMidgetWalrus Except the game was NOT made possible by a ton of artists. You realize that the mod started BECAUSE of AI generated sprites right? Sprites that then were replaced with custom sprites that artists volunteered to make right? AI is at the very core of this project and always will be. What would you prefer: AI generated placeholders that actually do make sense and are only there until they get replaced much like the sprites themselves or taking the dex entries of both pokemon and fusing them together into some nonsensical garbage? @@Kevinnn111 If not entirely possible, it at least made it relevant. Nobody would have cared about it if it was a simple face swap like the placeholder fusions have. The custom sprites are one of the core draws of the game, and without them it would have fallen off ages ago. The AI use adds nothing, and shows blatant disrespect to the artists that helped popularize the game.
TL;DR at the bottom There's actually a good (but bad for us) reason for SEGA to just straight up lie and collaborate with mini arcade companies while not making mini consoles: No matter what SEGA does, the mini console will be able to run roms/discs, the community is just that dedicated. So in other words, even if SEGA pulls a PS1 mini, we'd still be able to play all the games we want, which based on current events, is not something SEGA wants us to do.
