  • BMW ZF6HP XHP Stage 3 Flash V3 Review: Is it quicker?
    This week the XHP app had some mega upgrades including the latest revision of the ZF6HP transmission tunes. The new tune was boasting some huge changes and bring the ZF6 some of the ZF8 tricks. It certainly seemed like it was a big upgrade, we couldn't wait to test it out.

    Just for the record, a buddy of mine around here had the same car as me; same tune, mods, 07 n54 e90 rwd. We did several 40mph roll races, and we were door to door every single race. When he put the xhp stage 3 on, we raced again. Every time we shifted I could see him nudge a solid 1/4 car on me. This was on mhd's stage 2+ v8 map, 93 octane. The xhp is absolutely worth it just for the fun factor, aswell as the consistency. Stock trans tune seems to do some funkiness and holds the torque back on shifts every once in a while. XHP is just dead nuts, faster and very solid shift every time in manual mode, and the downshifts will actually chirp the bov.... I never drive the car in D, so I can't say how that part of the flash feels. Oh yeah, and with XHP you can remove the annoying auto upshift "feature", and actually smack limiter (bad idea for the crank hub on a high power n54). This is mostly nice for sliding around, as sometimes you might rev it a little high and itll upshift, either killing your fun or sending you into a ditch. Just my .02, great video ya'll!

    Nice video man. If you’re on stock turbos shift at 6rpm from 2ng gear and up. First gear can go to 6800. Also to help with the launching, you should get an anti lag switch from BMS. I’ll be getting one soon, and I’d be interested in a DIY!

      Regarding the shift points, with all the 100s of runs we have done with the vbox, higher shift points result in faster times in this car. As does starting in first, which a lot of people disagree with. Have you spent much time with a draggy or vbox on the street testing shift points? This car does have the antilag chip, but the extra boost just lights the rear tyres up on a normal road. Im sure it would be a different case on a track or if you did a bit of a burnout to warm the tyres up. But on the street it's slower in this car.

    I've been following you since this N54 project started because I just bought an E92 335xi and want to do more or less your same mods. You are very concerned about 0-100km/h times, but I think it's an unfair comparision between the different mods and upgrades on the car. IMHO you should test always to compare 100-200 and 80-120 in different gears to be able to have a good comparision. It's just my honest constructive criticism. Please, keep it up with the videos about this project, can't wait for those 17T to be installed :)

    Very interesting testing. Thanks again for doing this stuff. Even though it looks like a lot of fun really LOL. I'll tell you for me the way the stock ZF shifts in the E9X models is frustrating because it has such a delayed response just when you really need it to have a quick response. Like in crazy traffic and you're in the wrong lane and in order to get home you need to change to the correct lane or you'll be driving for ten miles before you can get to another off/on ramp so you see that one chance for the opening that will get you to the ramp and you take it but the shift AS WELL AS the delay from the turbos makes you hesitate just enough to make you into the biggest safety hazard ever now and you cause the guy you have now unintentionally cut off to hit his brakes big time and almost (Or possible actually) hits the guy you are now cutting off in the second lane as they totally curse you out and now think you are the biggest turd on the planet for being a BMW driver that thinks he owns the road and is just an all out cock no matter! LOL. Whew that was a bit of a tale lol. But I think you know what I mean. So I'm going to try it since I love driving like a tool.

    Great vids guys, saw your channel from Joe Achilles' recommendation. I had mhd stg2+ on my e91 335i along with the Xhp stg3. It was savage, found in sport it hung onto the gears a little too long in 2nd when driving normally. It was very harsh and hammered the gears home so only suited to a proper spirited drive. The manual mode was great but again when driving in town, down shifts gave a purposeful jerk. I've now swapped to an e92 335i and am in the process of mapping to stg2+ again and xhp soon. Seems the latest updates to sport mode is now smoother and manual isn't as harsh? Would you agree or would reserve sport and manual to only fast driving?

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Beaves 85. Joe is a bit of a legend, such a nice guy, even if he only likes all the posh beemers.... :P With the old xHP, i agree completely s mode was way to harsh on the down shifts, i could drive around it in manual, but apart from doing acceleration runs with the vbox, i never really used sport mode. For town driving i was always in d mode. D mode now is so good, i will without a doubt use it for daily driving. S mode is now good enough for some spirited driving through the twisties, the way it blips the throttle on the downshifts really smooths them out. However if i am doing any real naughty stuff i will probably just use manual still. But the update is so worth, really changes the way the car feels to drive.

Itching to get an xhp flash now and get out on the road after the current lockdown here in the UK. Keep up the good work and look forward to future content 👌

    Alright first I believe the car was spinning more than before, and it was definately faster shift times, but:
    You need to hold the first gear more for sure. Holding the first gear till u hit 7k or so will help your 0 to 100 for sure even if the boost tapers off a bit up top. The reason being is that the higher ratio multiplies torque more so it accelerates the car much more than second gear even when the car is not in its power band. I definately would try delaying that first to second shift. The ots tcu tune mainly targets stockish cars where boost tapers off a lot up top and the car runs out of puff, not the case for u.
    I also noticed the car quite laggy in the lower rpms.. Thats probably how the tune is setup. Its tuned try to taper boost in and out of gear. If you want to keep running the ots tune, try to brake-boost it a bit off the line (not so much that it slips the tires) but that will help. Load up the converter a bit before releasing the brake pedal. I'm pretty sure you will break ur record with those two things done differently.

      Honestly i think if you are running a tuned engine it will help the gearbox. The increased line pressures and speed between shifts means less clutch slip. Gearbox has been great (better than in this video) and my 100-200kmh time is down to 6.43 seconds, which is putting a lot of load on the box. th-cam.com/video/eLC7S2-zZBE/w-d-xo.html

      Soo much smoother than it was before. As for reliability that will probably come down to how hard it gets used. But if these are well maintained they really seem to stand the test of time. The increased line pressure shouldn’t actually stress anything. If anything it will reduce the chance of clutch slip on shifts.
