  • Be careful! The standard cab lets you access the fuel pump by taking off the bed.
The crew cab requires removal of the tank! (But taking the bed off did make it easier.)

Can confirm those connections up top, the ones at the rear of the tank (maybe mine had a bunch of junk in them,) were a pain. Sure it didn’t hurt to have the bed off already.
Kudos to all you super DIYers. I watched everything and this was still a struggle bus. Every connection and fastener decided it was 23 years old and very comfortable where it was!

If anyone is watching this video, I just finished this job yesterday on a 2002 F150 5.4L Lariat Super Crew. The easiest way to do this is to have jacks at both ends of the tank, remove the driveshaft from the diff side only. Leave the yolk in. Start lowering your jacks slowly (one side at a time). It will drop down leaning toward the passenger side. Watch the tension on all the connections. Eventually you will have enough room (about 6 inches) to remove the 3 lines and 6 bolts holding the fuel pump in. Snake the old one out and pop the new one in. NO NEED TO REMOVE ANY OF THE LINES NOT ON THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY, OR THE TANK COMPLETELY. Did this job in my friends driveway start to finish by myself in under 2 hours. You can do this! EASY!

Kudos to you, this took me about 5 hours. Struggled with old hoses and fasteners. I basically did what you did too. 😂

I made the same mistake you did.I removed the bed to find out that the fuel pump was under the passenger part of the cab.Still had to drop the tank after all the work to remove to bed and scratching the hell out of the paint on the back of the cab.

Drop the tank, the first time it's a real chore. 2nd time it's super easy. You can do this working on your back with only the front end on ramps. Just keep the gas tank low to empty before dropping it down.

And if you’re like me and you broke down with 3/4 of a tank, 2 floor jacks (or like me) a floor jack cross beam work good to get it down. I strapped mine to the beam with a tie down just for a little extra safety.

why would you decide to take the bed off sooner than drop the tank?

You don't happen to live around the Beaumont Tx area do you? I think that's my old truck, or it's an identical clone, even has some of the same scratches lol. Does it have a giant beige Ford sticker on the tailgate?

The truck was bought by my brother new, and eventually passed on to me.

Since it is an old truck, why not just cut an access hole in the bed (or wherever), so you can easily access the top of the fuel tank to remove the fuel pump? Then cover the new access hole with wood or sheet metal.

Good point. We got pretty comfortable removing the bed and it also made getting to the tank straps much easier.

i just have to wonder what was wrong with the old system of two bolts holding the fuel pump to the side of the block, like in my old '64 Falcon.

Cuz if you actually saw the vid,, you saw their reaction when they found out the fp,, want under the bed but under the cab

  • @bbrown9487

So you gotta drop the tank

    • @TheFritz423
      @TheFritz423  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes but it's way easier if you remove the bed first.
