She's a silly one.
My guess is yellow = sulphur. We have a lot of that here in Lake County, California. We have art of old mines here too. The oneoutside by back door...I’m not certain butit is either ..silver, quicksilver..Mercury or gold. There’s a big mine near my property that’s an old Gold mine, The Big Chief mine. However, it’s got no roads close to it and these hills are treacherous with Mt Lions, Bears and, Rattlers. They can keep their gold, cuz I admit that it’s way too dangerous for a single person in her mid 60s to attempt! That’s when I actually miss my ex hubby of 30 yrs...fishing and exploring! Enjoy life while you are still young and healthy and have Sarah.....Best advice I can give you guys...don’t get caught up in the complicated world...enjoy the world around you! I lived in Spokane for 4 years inthe late 70s when we were newlyweds.....but as I stated previously....I hate snow.....cold and frozen nose hairs! I get some snow here...but not like Spokane! No black ice .....no frozen fog!

It's some fun stuff to see, very colorful.
This is fairly close to home, I need to check it out! Maybe not inside the mine.. that gives me heebie jeebiez!!!!

Looks like the perfect adventure day to me! What more could you ask for! I find a lot of that yellow stuff on a lot of our rocks as well! I have no idea what it is. There is a few places where you can find it seeping out of the the ground, almost like a small soil change. I haven’t been able to identify if either. I love your dogs “blowin’ in the wind” face! Priceless!😂

I’m glad you have common sense in old collapsed areas near old mines.lltoo many guys have testosterone blocking their neurons.,.go into an old collapsed mine walking thru muddy water ...right where there could easily be a wence? Wince..,dam...hole in the floor!

At least the hike up the hill was rewarded with a stunning view! The yellow mineral crust could be limonite. I have some specimens from the riddle nickel mine in southern Oregon.

Love the videos and the knowledge you share. Wondering if you have resources on the processing of malachite. I see tons of videos on resin malachite. I can appreciate that there maybe be variations. But your video, from what i can see looks like it is just a mineralization on the surface and i may be incorrect in that assumption, but did see at the end what you showed after you broke off a chunk. But often see slabs of it, or the faux, for sale. Do you have any video on the processing of the malachite or azurite?
I do not have any videos up it as we often just keep some of it as specimens and don't really do much lapidary with it.
Wow! Im worn out from your hike! That looked like it was pretty rough going! And i wont say it was for nothing, because you dont get views like that from the ground level! But you guys got better samples from the road! The mine was interesting. And it was all just the oxidation and water, that was leaching it out. But it made for some brightly colored water! But all in all, you had a good hike, you got to spend some time out in nature with your wife, and leika got some exercise! and im worn out just watching you! Thanks for the adventure!
I couldn't agree more! I think its really interesting to see these historic mines and try to imagine what it must of been like to live and work there.
At one point in the mine I thought it was a micro mounting photo, then you moved. Big thanks for doing the leg work, literally. Where will you find time to go through all those magazines you just got. No moss on you!

That was some interesting mineralization on the mine walls. a lot of sound advice for anyone doing any exploring around old mine works. definitely wouldn’t want to take the fast trip to the bottom of a mine for sure!

I'm not sure, I spent a fair amount of time looking at it but couldn't come up with any thing solid.

Hey guys, after caving like this make sure to wash your boots, gear, and clothing thoroughly if you plan on going caving again. White Nose syndrome has been spotted in washington and washing your stuff will protect our little bat friends from deadly fungi.
Good advice.
We do give things a deep cleaning after going into mines.

The tailings is where to look I think, way better than inside the mine.

Omfg that, to me, is literally terrifying! You sir are a brave man. I love what you said about the angry mama moose, only i think that really applies to all moose lol. They’re generally incredibly mean animals and likely to attack completely unprovoked and they are HUGE, not something ya wanna tangle with. I used to visit Yellowstone park every year and i have walked through and pet herds of reindeer elk (including babies with their mamas keeping close watch) and bison without any real fear for my safety. Some of them seemed to genuinely enjoy the pets and ear scratches, one of the baby reindeer elk kept following me around and nudging me for more ear scratches, the ones that didn’t want to be messed with simply walked away. Obviously they’re all very familiar with tourists and used to people being around from the day they’re born and i certainly wouldn’t try this outside of Yellowstone. A single moose though, we wouldn’t even stop the car within 15-20 yards of one. Angry is definitely in moose dna lol. You covered black bears, grizzly bears and snakes, and i totally agree with your sentiment on those as well. However, you didn’t mention mountain lions and i am curious on your thoughts there.
Awesome video, as always. I’m live in the tri cities area and always enjoy your videos on places that i can actually go. Currently binge watching them all, even if I’ve already seen them before, to help me decide on a location for my 3rd annual ‘everyone forgets my birthday anyway so f*ck it lets go rock hunting’ trip on the 15th. 3 days away and I can’t wait! Rock hunting has turned one of the most depressing days of the year into my absolute favorite. Your website and videos have been extremely helpful in that change by providing all the info needed on how to get there, what to bring, what to look for and if it’s a place my kids would be OK going so we can have a fun, safe and productive day. I’d love to go rock hunting with you, Sarah, and your doggo sometime when y’all go out just for fun and not making a video, that would totally rock! Yes, i know, probably the most overused and cheesy pun, i had to say it anyway.
As for mountain lions we don't really worry about them, we always have our dog with us and we make lots of noise talking and stuff, but even dogs and noise like talking and walking around will not necessary scare off a moose so that's the one animal I'm slightly concerned about.

I haven’t had any problems with wildlife unless you count ticks, and all the animals I have seen were nude. Hopefully nobody finds nude animals inappropriate lol. It’s really cool you were able to go inside. All the old mines in Missouri where I’m at are flooded. Our geology is like a giant wet sponge here.
I'm tired of indecent animals, think of the children and put some pants on already.
Nice finds! My weak spot is for copper and nickel minerals where the color is bright green - blue, sadly the copper deposits here are in minor amounts and in chalcopyrites.

Love those loose lips! Don't go sinking any ships Laika! That's a beautiful piece you put under the microscope. I have to admit, I was a bit concerned about the trip into the mine. I was afraid there'd be one of those bottomless vertical pits! Glad it was uneventful.

She's a mutt that we rescued from the shelter. We had the DNA test done and it came back saying shes mostly a cattle dog husky mix.
