Carving a palisman would fit that requirement, as you are carving it, and shaping it, and while doing so you are putting your intentions of what you hope the palisman will fulfill. During adoption day, giving a clear statement is clearly stating your intention, so my guess is that a palisman that is already sentient can make the decision if that aligns with their abilities. For Hunter its quiet beautiful as Cardinals are a native bird to the US, and in Native American Lore they are seen as messengers, connecting people to the underworld/realms, devotion and are seen as teachers and guardians, all roles Flapjack has and plays. Flapjack we assume was made by Evalyn for Caleb, as a symbol of her love, two worlds connected, and a protector as they are fierce defenders of their territory and mate. For Hunter, Flapjack continues his mission as devotion from Evalyn and Caleb, but also friendship, connecting him to people his age, and to a world that he never participated in aka childhood and friendship as well as the human world. He also frequently conversed with Hunter bringing him into his own person gradually teaching him to make connections and to come to his own decisions and thoughts, and protected Hunter throughout their time together. What more, Cardinals often do not migrate as many song birds, they are residential for the most part, so they will be present throughout the year from spring to winter, and Flapjack has remained steady throughout the years and is now always present in Hunter.
I do have to point out: Flapjack transferring his essence to Hunter is probably the only working instance of reviving a witch because Hunter is a grimwalker; aka part palistrom wood like palismen.

Furthermore is the how grimwalkers are made. They specifically have palistrom wood within them; this may be another explanation as for how Flapjack was able to merge with Hunter.
Don’t forget in “Hallow Mind” a palismen soul can live on in another being so it’s possible that Flapjack could still be “alive” but as a spiritual entity in Hunter’s Mindscape❤️🩹
@@mekiherring2088 That's possible. But I think someone needed to tell Belos that you can/ how to obtain the magic out of palisman and after that how to use it properly. When he meets Luz in the past he can't do magic on his own or he would have used it against her and Lilith. So I think he met the collector and they planned how Belos could get what he wanted. The endgoal is the draining spell but he also needs the means to achieve it. So the collector probably helped him figure out a way to get more power. This could include killing palisman and some "spells" other witches can't do, so he will always be seen as something special and the top dog on the isle.
3:44 I’m pretty sure Hunter is only seen communicateing with palisman which probably has something to do with the fact. That palistom wood is used to make grim walkers I could be wrong 🤷🏾♀️
Can Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur be your next Disney TVA show to do episode breakdowns after The Owl House ends in Spring? I heard that the show will start off as episodic, but turns serialized early as the show goes on.
So this may have been covered but thought I'd mention it anyway Palismin can let themselves be utilized if they deem that the situation requires it like with when Luz used both Owlbert and Flapjack. Also while it's never directly explained I do think Belos's magic when his staff isn't the obvious source being used is using either his glyphs carved into his arms or the magic The Collector taught him.
Palismen are such a neat combination of a witch's staff and familiar. An excellent, evocative addition to the Boiling Isles and magic system. I'd like to see this idea in more things!
I’d say you covered everything with this video. Good job 👍 I think if I were to have a Palisman it would probably be a Wolf or a Deerfox due to my free spirited and adventurous nature.
Eda wasn't exactly holding onto a piece of palistrom wood though, it's stated that she and King forcibly stole the wood from a garden club. Which makes you wonder what poor witch didn't get a palisman because of that. In addition, Luz's palisman's ability to shape-shift isn't necessarily the new standard. We don't have any other proof of palisman eggs being carved and then changing into something else. And we don't get any example of change in other people's palismans since, let's be real here, Luz isn't the only one going through emotional and mental change. If that was the case then technically all palismans should be able to undergo change and should've evolved throughout the show, with Willow and Gus, who went through big emotional arcs recently, having newly evolved palismans. Same with Lilith finding her place in the world and letting out her inner nerd. The same thing with Hunter, who has undergone far more changes than Luz ever has. (From a child soldier to a lost kid realizing he's a clone.) But this doesn't happen for anyone else. Stringbean, as cute as she is, is an anomaly with little to no solid explanation and no proof that she actually can exist by the laws of palismans before her. If anything, Luz carved an egg and Stringbean should've just been an egg.
I honestly think that Hunter being revived by Flapjack was 'cause hunter is a grimwalker. Grimwalkers are, also, made from palistrom wood. Ofcourse I could be wrong and palismen could indeed revive their wielder, but I think that this makes more sence! Nice video btw!!
I always love the design of each Palismen, to the point of curious on which specific demon or witch crafted said one. I always had the impression after seeing Eda's father his job was always helping young witches and demons craft their own palismen. Right down to him passing the skill onto Eda by giving her the seed.
I always tought the "Pal" part came from the word "palo" wish is used in spanish to talk about wood, so Palismen from Wooden talisman. You learn something new every day :) (like, I learned, I dont want to sound condescending, this internet thing is hard and I am deathly afraid of starting fights, oh well, guess I will close this post)
Pretty sure Hunter being healed by and gaining the powers of Flapjack is a unique situation given his origins. In fact, I wonder if they kinda joined in a way? The Palistrom shortage isn't just bc of palismans.... it was also bc of all the grimwalkers belos was making and discarding. Also, other than Flapjack, do any Palisman have confirmed unique powers? Otherwise, surely Lilith and Eda could have done at least a LITTLE magic, with their palismans, post-curse?
we can say that the episode "Huting Palisman" is a kind of parallelism with Pokémon, instead of choosing the Pokémon you start the journey with, it's the Pokémon choosing you.and it is also clear why Luz has carved an egg, as well as deciding to your palisman what it wants to be it is also a reference to Pokemon Eggs, for those who have played the video game or/and seen the series will know that it is not known what kind of pokemon will hatch from the egg.
Flapjack gave his power willingly to Hunter. While Belos couldn't harness any of the magic because he was stealing and killing them. Also, it seems exceptionally likely to me that the Bat Queen was a Titan's palisman. As I recall, she only said that her witch was a very large person, not that he was a titan. She's probably staying where she is because her person was the titan that makes up the island on which the main story takes place. We'll see what happens in the final episode.
Flapjack didn't belong to Caleb he belonged to Evalyn they go over this in "Thanks to Them" when they show flapjack when introducing the concept of Evalyn. Belos also says "Goodbye Evalyn" when killing Flapjack.
He also says "caleb" when he first sees flap, and flap is shown with caleb in the drawing in YL, so he's most likely Caleb's. He probably only said goodbye Evelyn because to him, flap was a creature used by her to "ruin" caleb.
Tell me why I only JUST NOTICED that one of those palisman from the adoption episode is a goose with a bell in its mouth...Someone likes untitled goose game in the staff.
Presumably the fact he can barely hold himself together is due to Belos having consumed so many unwilling palismen. I suspect Hunter's health is better even now than Belos was after his first palisman consumption; the eyes on Belos are probably from some of the stronger palismen he's drunk, and they likely aren't _happy_ to be part of him. Flapjack - whatever is left of him - is definitely united with Hunter because he wants to be.
If I had a palisman, it would be a Platypuffin (Platypus-Puffin Hybrid that is essentially a platypus with a puffin beak, and fun fact: Puffin beaks and platypus fur both glow a cyan-purple color under UV light). What would your Palismen be if you could have one?
I think Flapjack is a cardinal because those are supposed to signify dead loved ones/relatives so it could be showing the connection between Caleb and Hunter
You probably don't know this but I gave Rebecca the idea of coming up with string beans for the name of Lucas Palace women and it being a snake shifter it was cuz I thought that it shouldn't have to choose one creature to be
I think when it comes to gaining power from a palismen after their death it depends on how it happened. In Belos’s case he killed them and took their magic forcefully so it ended up harming and mutating him, whereas in Hunter’s case Flapjack gave his life and magic willingly which saved his life and allowed him to gain Flapjack’s special power.
what if the transfer of powers between palisman and user was related to how the palisman perished...... belose just indiscriminately killed and devoured them while flapjack sacrificed itself to save its partner.
Can the palsiman be found on all the boiling islands or are they only found in a few places? If they can be found in different places on the islands, would they have different appearances depending on where they are? (for example, witches who live in desert areas have palismans shaped like a scorpion, coyote, vulture, and those from cold lands have palismans shaped like reindeer, walrus, or weasel)
Since palisman don't carve themselves I think it's safe to safe that no matter where the witch is from they can create a palisman that looks like anything. Also adopt a palisman regardless of what it looks like since they don't seem to need any specific climate to survive. Just a witch that takes care of them.
Flapjacks ability isnt teleportation. Hunter already showed this ability with his artificial staff. He then started using that spell using flapjack allowing flapjack to learn that spell aswell but at the end of the day its just that: a spell any witch can use (lillith and eda also used this spell during their fights against each other).
I think that Hunter gained Flapjack's powers because he *merged* with the birb or something similar, whilst Belos straight-up *ate* them. Augmentation and consumption are two vastly different processes.
Cuttings can be taken from plants and used to grow a clone of the plant. That's most likely how the Bat Queen came by her babies. Since she already had a form, her babies took her form rather than becoming new palistrom trees.
Correction, based on what amity says in FTF, ghost was definitely carved, not adopted. Amity had to state a wish to get her to move, implying she was wood before. If ghost was adopted, she would already have a former wish and it would make less sense for her to not move or for amity to conveniently have the same wish as a palisman she just so happened to grab. Its like stringbean, they didn't come to life until their witch figured out their wish.
I think the reason Belos didn’t get more powers from all those palismen is because they didn’t willingly gave up their lives to extend his where as Flapjack chose to give up the last of his life force to save Hunter thus giving him powers (idk if that made any sense at all)
Just one thing about Hunter being revived by his Palismen and inheriting Flapjack powers. Hunter is a Dreanwalker, is not a human or witch. Not only he is made of Palistrom wood but many other special/magical materials. This may be the reason why he was able to be revived by a Palismen and inheriting Flapjack powers. Its very unlikely that the same could happen to human or witch.
The reason belos can use magic is the glyphs on his arm and the artificial magic staff is also that since it’s also red, hunter got flapjacks magic because he willingly gave it to hunter belos just ate the palisman so he never got it from them, hunter already used the “teleporting” power with the artificial staff so no flapjack didn’t give hunter the ability
I don't think witches carving their own palismen is the norm. The only two people that have been confirmed to having carved their own palisman is Eda and Luz. Eda's father Dell used to be a famous carver of palismen. That wouldn't make sense, if all witches carved their palismen themselves. It seems much more likely, that palismen are mostly made by skilled professionals and then distributed to other witches either through sale or gifting.
This may just be me…but I always assume that the unique ability’s of palismin are due to what the user’s combat style is…Luz didn’t seem to know what she was doing when stringbeen shot that blast, whereas Hunter teleports all the time, Luz only did it once with flapjack to close distance, and because flapjack was the closest palismen…but again, I could be confused wrong, this is just how I interpret it
Luz never did it at all, that time where it looked like Luz did, it was just Hunter disguised aa Luz via Gus' Illusion magic. Hunter has been the only person to do it. Plus he also did it with his artificial. The only difference is the color of the spell, reflecting the staff (yellow for flapjack, red for the artificial staff)
While I wasn't too sure if palistrom wood is only blue like the sample Luz had, I do think we have at least seen a tree. In the background when Belos approaches his hideout, there's a large stump with torn ends spiraling like the seed Dell had, and a knot hole with angular pattern resembling a interlock. (Come to think of it, we haven't seen interlocks outside of Ep 10, what would Litith's or Luz & Co's have?) A smaller tree grows within - perhaps by Eda from her dad?
I believe Dell is said to have been a palismen carver by trade which would imply that, at least back when the wood was plentaful, paying someone else to carve one for you was also an option.
If there exists such a things as a Pal-Is-Man, then there must exist somewhere out there a Pal-Is-Gun. And the person who would wield such a magical weapon would definitely be a part of the GOC.
When it comes to belos, he doesn't probably doesn't inherent any palisman powers cause they probably have to be freely given in a process like flapjack giving their's to hunter and because belos stole the magic of palisman he doesn't get their individual powers.
I think the palisman ability transfer thing might be something that can only happen when your palisman willingly gives you it? Maybe? That’s the only explanation for belos having no clear transferred abilities that I can think of.
Id assume that a palismen's power would only transfer if it were out of willingness, such as Flapjack giving their life to Hunter. While stealing the power for yourself would be a curse or toxic like that of Belos.
I think the reason why Hunter gained Flapjack's powers after the little guy died, while Belos doesn't appear to have Palismen powers is that the Palismen needs to willingly give its powers to a person for them to properly receive said powers, so the reason why Belos has no Palismen powers is because none of the Palismen he had killed wanted to give their powers up to a power-hungry tyrant like Belos Oh, I also feel that the reason Belos has that creepy melting power is because of his monster form or something of the likes
I think amity got hers elsewhere than the adoption day. I don't recall her being in that scene. Her family is extremely rich, so its possible they could afford to buy palistrom wood
I think flapjack was evelyn’s palisman and when he saw hunter he was reminded of caleb and stayed with him but his real owner was evelyn until she died
I’m Perry’s sure flapjack was the only one to actually save his owner cuz hunter was not a witch or human cuz he a grimwalker and they out of a stone thing (forgot name ) and palisman too
I’m pretty sure that palismen cannot revive or extend the lives of their owners. It only worked with Hunter because as a grimwalker, he’s made up of palistrom wood as well as other objects.
From Encanto where they can like talk to stuff like they have like super magical powers but there's still more you didn't do like like the first girl we meet can know What Casita says
fun fact (i just noticed this), but when you take away the "pali-" from palistrom you're left with "strom" which means "tree" in multiple wester slavic languages
Here I thought Pal came from Palisade, Spears or staves kept in a defensive manner usually to protect castles or homes, that can also be wielded offensively. (Yay for dictionaries).

Don’t forget in “Hallow Mind” a palismen soul can live on in another being so it’s possible that Flapjack could still be “alive” but as a spiritual entity in Hunter’s Mindscape❤️🩹
@@mekiherring2088 The collector could have teached him this. He knows tricks the witches don't.
This could include killing palisman and some "spells" other witches can't do, so he will always be seen as something special and the top dog on the isle.
flapjack didn't give Hunter any abilities, Hunter could teleport without him as the golden guard. Its just Hunter lmao
@@bluefireflyz1319 when does he do it?

I’m pretty sure Hunter is only seen communicateing with palisman which probably has something to do with the fact. That palistom wood is used to make grim walkers
I could be wrong 🤷🏾♀️
We see eda talk to owlbert
Can Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur be your next Disney TVA show to do episode breakdowns after The Owl House ends in Spring? I heard that the show will start off as episodic, but turns serialized early as the show goes on.
I LOVE LUZ'S PALISMEN STRINGBEAN THE MOST!
I'd like to see this idea in more things!
it took me half of the 1st season to realize they were saying palisman, not talisman XD it makes so much sense after figuring out the correction
I believe consuming the palismen kept Belos alive, since there's no other way a human could have survived for hundreds of years.
Hey I got a theory about flapjack I think he's a phoenix
I honestly think that Hunter being revived by Flapjack was 'cause hunter is a grimwalker. Grimwalkers are, also, made from palistrom wood. Ofcourse I could be wrong and palismen could indeed revive their wielder, but I think that this makes more sence! Nice video btw!!
I love that luz’s palisman is like a dark star, or at least it’s ‘energy’ is kinda of like that
I always love the design of each Palismen, to the point of curious on which specific demon or witch crafted said one.
If someone giant needs a palisman , would he/she have to remove a whole tree to carve his/her own?
If that's how the Bat Queen was carved, then yes
'Twas probably a Teenage Titan
Flapjack didn't belong to Caleb he belonged to Evalyn they go over this in "Thanks to Them" when they show flapjack when introducing the concept of Evalyn. Belos also says "Goodbye Evalyn" when killing Flapjack.
He also says "caleb" when he first sees flap, and flap is shown with caleb in the drawing in YL, so he's most likely Caleb's.
He probably only said goodbye Evelyn because to him, flap was a creature used by her to "ruin" caleb.
Fun fact: Pal means a big wooden stick in polish
If you carve/adopt a Palismen, could mental illness in the witch lead to the palismen abandoning their witch?
If I had a palisman, it would be a Platypuffin (Platypus-Puffin Hybrid that is essentially a platypus with a puffin beak, and fun fact: Puffin beaks and platypus fur both glow a cyan-purple color under UV light). What would your Palismen be if you could have one?
My palisman would be a pegasus named Storm.
I would do it like Luz. Carve an egg and additionally hoping that not the one specific animal I have a phobia of is hatching.
Mine, an axalotal
Mine would be an quimera of a cat/snake/dragon or a plat/dragon I really don't know what a want
I would kinda want a spider but I also really like platypus’s so idk
When he was talking about talismans through history, I was waiting to hear the totem of undying
You think Pochita from Chainsaw Man could be considered a Palisman?
what if the transfer of powers between palisman and user was related to how the palisman perished...... belose just indiscriminately killed and devoured them while flapjack sacrificed itself to save its partner.
Just a witch that takes care of them.
i think most witches just carve them into animals that they already know about so yeah
I don't think the show actually confirms that Evelynn is a Clawthorne.
So, is anyone going to ask how the heck Lulu kept her palisman while she was top lieutenant of Belos?!
Would it be weird to want Hooty for a palisman?
Correction, based on what amity says in FTF, ghost was definitely carved, not adopted.
Amity had to state a wish to get her to move, implying she was wood before.
If ghost was adopted, she would already have a former wish and it would make less sense for her to not move or for amity to conveniently have the same wish as a palisman she just so happened to grab.
Its like stringbean, they didn't come to life until their witch figured out their wish.
I think we can all agree the Palistrom trees are endangered because Belos used them for his dozens if Grimwalkers
I think the reason Belos didn’t get more powers from all those palismen is because they didn’t willingly gave up their lives to extend his where as Flapjack chose to give up the last of his life force to save Hunter thus giving him powers (idk if that made any sense at all)
So there's probably a Dragon palisman out there which is actually cool
She does wield Flapjack in TtT, though...
@@vincentmorris8431 When was this? Does she teleport?
@@bluefireflyz1319 when fighting possessed Hunter; she gets ahold of his staff and does the yellow dash thing
@@vincentmorris8431 gotcha lemme look
Bro literally got defibrillaTed with his best friends soul
While I wasn't too sure if palistrom wood is only blue like the sample Luz had, I do think we have at least seen a tree. In the background when Belos approaches his hideout, there's a large stump with torn ends spiraling like the seed Dell had, and a knot hole with angular pattern resembling a interlock.
(Come to think of it, we haven't seen interlocks outside of Ep 10, what would Litith's or Luz & Co's have?)
A smaller tree grows within - perhaps by Eda from her dad?
Another reason why Palistrom wood was so scarce is because it makes up the body/flesh/hair of grimwalkers.
I believe Dell is said to have been a palismen carver by trade which would imply that, at least back when the wood was plentaful, paying someone else to carve one for you was also an option.
Stringbean is so precious
Hey is eda still powerless if she palismen
If there exists such a things as a Pal-Is-Man, then there must exist somewhere out there a Pal-Is-Gun. And the person who would wield such a magical weapon would definitely be a part of the GOC.
Do you plan on doing an episode breakdown on For the Future?
When it comes to belos, he doesn't probably doesn't inherent any palisman powers cause they probably have to be freely given in a process like flapjack giving their's to hunter and because belos stole the magic of palisman he doesn't get their individual powers.
You need to check out the Wingfeather Saga animated series
I think the palisman ability transfer thing might be something that can only happen when your palisman willingly gives you it? Maybe? That’s the only explanation for belos having no clear transferred abilities that I can think of.
Id assume that a palismen's power would only transfer if it were out of willingness, such as Flapjack giving their life to Hunter. While stealing the power for yourself would be a curse or toxic like that of Belos.
Just like to mention that Eda wasn't holding onto that piece of Palistrom wood, she straight up stole it from a gardening club 😂😂
I Wonder if there's a plot line where hunter becomes a "real boy" for lack of a better word and if flapjack somehow has something to do with it
I think the reason why Hunter gained Flapjack's powers after the little guy died, while Belos doesn't appear to have Palismen powers is that the Palismen needs to willingly give its powers to a person for them to properly receive said powers, so the reason why Belos has no Palismen powers is because none of the Palismen he had killed wanted to give their powers up to a power-hungry tyrant like Belos
Oh, I also feel that the reason Belos has that creepy melting power is because of his monster form or something of the likes
I think amity got hers elsewhere than the adoption day. I don't recall her being in that scene. Her family is extremely rich, so its possible they could afford to buy palistrom wood
“Flapjacks was dark yellow”
Da- *DARK YELLOW?!*
Sir, i think you mean ✨g o l d e n✨
I think flapjack was evelyn’s palisman and when he saw hunter he was reminded of caleb and stayed with him but his real owner was evelyn until she died
5:16 why did you do that i'm crying again
can someone tell when the last episode coming plss?
I’m Perry’s sure flapjack was the only one to actually save his owner cuz hunter was not a witch or human cuz he a grimwalker and they out of a stone thing (forgot name ) and palisman too
Can someone tell me the name of the show that the imp demon image came from? I’m seeing it everywhere.
I love the owl house🐝🦉🦎🐍🐈🐥🦅🦇
It's crazy with ranie theme
I’m pretty sure that palismen cannot revive or extend the lives of their owners. It only worked with Hunter because as a grimwalker, he’s made up of palistrom wood as well as other objects.
From Encanto where they can like talk to stuff like they have like super magical powers but there's still more you didn't do like like the first girl we meet can know What Casita says
The reason flapjacks powers was given to hunter is because hunter is maid out of palistrum wood
Didn't hunter always do the little flash thing because with his staff (before flapjack) he would zoom away
fun fact (i just noticed this), but when you take away the "pali-" from palistrom you're left with "strom" which means "tree" in multiple wester slavic languages
Here I thought Pal came from Palisade, Spears or staves kept in a defensive manner usually to protect castles or homes, that can also be wielded offensively. (Yay for dictionaries).
I thought hunter understanding flapjack was hunter being a grimwalker
