Given the risks to health I’m glad the suit actors get paid well. But they really should give better wages to KR and Sentai actors, especially given how much work they have to go through within a years time
50,000 yen a month? That's a livable wage here in Philippines but that's too low for a first world country salary. God damn, toei and bandai low balling their actors, i wonder if they give royalty to lead kamen rider actors for merchandise sales as incentive. Now you kinda understand why some are not coming back to reprise their roles.
I didn’t know that these actors make so little. But then again, even the top Japanese actors don’t even make as much compared to western actors because of how much these agencies take
I'm not sure if the pay included any live events, commercial, or movie deals, but even so, the reported number is criminal given how much work they have to put in.
I hardly feel surprised about this, considering that tokusatsu shows are funded only by toy companies & according to Marvel's 616 episode 1, they're made on a shoestring budget
From what I’m seeing, it seems like Tokusatsu is pretty much Japan’s SNL: this is where actors go to potentially make their big debut. If Tori Matsuzaka (Shinken Red) is anything to go by, it sometimes works.
$600? Yikes. They're cheaper than Saban! But I guess it can be kind of the same stateside. Comparing again by way of Power Rangers, Adelaide Kane once posted a video refuting claims she was rolling in dough with money from Reign and other stuff by breaking down how much goes to her manager, lawyer, business manager, social media, publicist, hair/makeup etc.
Remember where sentai and kamen rider makes most if not all there money is toy sales and merchandise sales. If one sentai is a bad season and has less toy sales the actors will get paid less. They are kid shows in general some American fans are mainly teens oradults mainly we grown up with power rangers and wanting to know where it comes from.
@@kamenriderblade2099 yea but most agency's are helpful because they have information regarding the auditions so that the actors can prepare for the auditions better.
Pretty sure the suit actors earn way more than 50k yen per year. That's just the average background production guys like lighting etc. Suit guys should definitely get more with the physical danger involved. At the very least the main suit actors doing the difficult stunts should be paid more than that.
so what im getting is despite ALL the money toei makes from Rider and Sentai they (and these crappy agencies too it seems) SEVERELY underpay their actors. Which is a goddamn shame considering how many actors debut with these series and go on to be beloved. Something has GOT to change here this isn't right, this is why discussing your wages and organizing is important.
Fuck man that makes me sad. I make more than shes does and I'm just a no name IT guy. I don't even that much compared to other people in my part of the field.
Sadly, Japan is highly known for its toxic work culture and this is just the tip of the iceberg. There’s a clear difference in cultures when actors from Power Rangers can discuss the treatment on set without ever risking their careers
Suits are more expensive than effects IMO, unless they're having a Hollywood-grade effect. Especially in KR production ( Weekly Tokusatsu, so Godzilla is excluded).
Tokusatsu shows are often considered apprenticeships for young actors, some of whom are still in their teens when being casted. Some, like Mizushima Hiro (Kabuto) and Odagiri Jo (Kuuga) become very successful afterwards. Others, like the actor who played Blade, fade into obscurity and have to rely on becoming a porn actor to make ends meet. It's a brutal world.
Now im starting to understand why not every actor sticks around and signs up to movie appearances...even if they love kamen rider
It's more than just money but yeah money is a big factor
Interesting video, really good insight for the toku fans who don't know much about the behind the scenes yet demand so much from the actors.
Given the risks to health I’m glad the suit actors get paid well. But they really should give better wages to KR and Sentai actors, especially given how much work they have to go through within a years time
As an actor myself, I can confirm that the agencies take 50-60% of the money.
Name one movie or show you've appeared in.
Rofl why should he have to ?

To be honest , suit actors basically stuntman wearing heavy armor.
Not to mention the amount of workload needed to be put in by suit actors in each project
which is hard

you know damn well they're not giving them royalties lol The Execs are pocketing every single yen earned from all merchandising.
No wonder toei is rich they pay their actors toooo lowwwwwww

Why was marvel talking about tokusatsu
@M. G. S headquarter um because one of their variants of their superheroes _had_ a tokusatsu? (Japanese Spider-Man of Earth 51178)

It means masahiro inoue is amazing, although the pay is low. He is very happy about his role, salute
Man, I knew they must not have gotten paid much but this is kind of shameful considering how much money these shows make.
This doesn't really fall under Toei, it's the agencies they work with

Sounds like Agencies should be eliminated, they're a unnecessary leech on the acting society.
Yea. But to get future jobs and such, being In an agency is crucial.

Sadly yes, it viewed as a second to third-rate thing. That's why you can see recently that most of the main cast are stage actor/gravure Idol.
