I lost my wife of 37 years in January. Every word of this song now has a whole new meaning. It's hauntingly beautiful and brings back so many wonderful memories. Oh, how I love you Cheryl.
Hi Daniel, so sorry to hear of the passing of your wife, Cheryl!! Stay strong and yes always remember the awesome memories together...we will all see our Loved ones again in Heaven one day. Blessings...this is a Beautiful song!! Life is so short. Love and be kind always ❤
I know it's been a year since you posted this comment but I'm truly sorry for your loss. While it's not exactly the same, I lost my mom when I was 17 years old (I'm 39 now) and in March, I lost my very best friend of 23 years. I also believe that we will see the people we loose again. I think heaven is a replaying our favorite memories and our favorite people coming to see us over and over again.
My Wife of 29 years passed 8/5/2022. For the last 2 weeks as she laid there, sometime aware, sometime not, I'd softly sing this song, as it was her favorite. No matter what, she would smile once I started, except the last 2 days. I think she was between Worlds. I still sang it to her. Rest in Peace Carolyn, thank you for loving me.
That's a beautiful image you have described There's something about music that brings out the most noble and loving parts of us. I hope you have plenty of close friends and loved ones who give you the support you need
Lost my love 43 years ago today 12/8/81. This was our song. I talk to him everyday and sometimes I cry. I've cried so much today. I do every year on the day he passed. Can't help it. I raised our 3 babies and never remarried. I know our spirits will be together again when the Lord calls me home 💜
Anyone still listening to this song in 2023 God bless you. Such a wonderful song. One of a kind. It's about love yet its so tragic and heart breaking for some reason. They def dont make music like they used too that's for damn sure.
I love this song as it is one of my favourites . I am frequently listening to it due it's peculiarity of singer's admirable voice expressing the love and the music rhythms which take one to the different world lovers.
I'm 74. This song brings back memories, feelings of my hippie era. Met my wife on the corner of Haight Ashbury in February 1968. Got married three months later. Still married 54 years later. Thanks to her and songs like this.
It's remarkable. Love being at a safe distance from this worlds influence, yet coming to us from ...... parts known only to the ones making the journey before us. My grandmother passed, but came back. When she opened her eyes all she said was this--" now I understand". She wouldn't tell me anything else. One hour later she went back to stay. I miss you grandma..
You are both truly blessed. I was not so lucky. Wife left me in the early eighties $87,000.00 in debt with a 5 and 10 yrs old to raise with no support but I got full custody of my children which was a gift from God. Both now grown with their own families and doing well so I was blessed but in a totally different way. God bless and keep on lovin each other. PS got 3 amazing grandchildren. Another blessing.

I agree with you 100%. Do you remember Procol Harum's tune "Whiter Shade Of Pale"? It has something hauntingly beautiful too...just to name one. I don't think we will ever hear music like this anymore😕.
Dude fr !!! The music now these days is just trash it's very rare to find a good song .These songs from the 50's- 90's ERs are just soul and gut wrenching with feel 💞💞nothing can top it !!
Nah, they still make great music today, you just have to step outside the mainstream produced-for-mass-consumption scene. And they made unimaginative junk back in the "good old days" too. It's just that the bad music from those eras didn't survive the test of time: nobody's playing it anymore, because unlike the "classics", most music is just a temporary fad. I'm not sure who coined this phrase first, but "90% of everything is shit". It's true today, it was true in the 90's (perhaps you repressed the memories of the euro dance music, house, new beat/acid, boy bands, child singers, etc...), it was true in the 80's, 70's, 60's, and probably goes back all the way to the dawn of man... Ignore that 90%; you want to be looking for the 10%.
My mom played this song when I was around 6 to 8 yrs old. I fell in love with the song and now she's passed I listen to it thinking about her and the time we had together. Such a sad and beloved song but she left a great legacy. I love you mom, thank you moody blues.
I'm 34 and i remember as a kid at about 8 i was in my room, my dad would spend Sunday evenings playing music from his era and i heard this song playing one night and i was hooked. I went downstairs and made him play it about 10 times. Sadly passed away a few years back but i thank him for introducing me to this kind of music
Bro, I'm sorry for your loss. I can relate all to well.. my dad passed 5yrs ago.. he was the big music listener, he played everything but mostly classic rock.. . This song has a special meaning for me also. My dad and I flew to tuscon Arizona and were heading for Mexico the next day.. we were driving down a long stretch of road, he let me drive the rental car on a single lane road, this came on the radio and it's now a nice memory for me..
@@mikelund57 thankyou for your comment, I too am sorry for your loss my friend. Your memory of you and your father sounds really nice, its amazing to have memories like that. Music is strange in a way, that it brings back the memories almost more vividly, hard to explain. Funny, alot of times I would play my dad my music i liked to get him to approve that modern music was good, I would say 80% of the time he would say "hmmm, its just noise" 🤣
@@sirbiscuit6403 ya know it's funny how now in our ear, we look back at the 80s and 90s, and how parents didn't appreciate or approve of.. like you said, your father said it was noise..it's all I hear now.. there's a few small bands that have some really good stuff.. I'm born in 75 . I listen to classical music to classic rock. Big band and jazz. Love music
This is one hell of a song, and will always be one of my absolute favorite songs of all time! They seriously dont make magic like this anymore, that makes you really think or get into your feelings.
I am 68 years old and I remember when this was a new release. Even back then we knew we were blessed with a timeless classic rock song. I am so glad the song lives on for younger people to appreciate.
Yes,I am also 68 and I remember listening to it for the first time thinking how beautiful and ethereal the music was. May I suggest the music of Joan Osborne to you… if you do not already know about her.
CROVAN 87546 THE SANDRINGHAM Idk how you can consider yourself a big music fan if you’ve never gone hunting for it. There’s an insane amount of music being made, with more eclectic styles than ever before.
I say the same that's the climax line ur rite all the way I wanna be a flying 🐎 🐴 horse maybe a palomino Pegasus is there such n animal known2man if so ur on 4the ride of ur life never touching grounds anywhere ever again that's what this song does4me I sang it at resorts shaking trembling I cured a bit of stage fright this ain't easy on both parts the heart singing n the brain stage fright best of health this lifetime n the next etc!
I'm listening to this and realizing how fast life Goes by~ 1 second you're 20 years old riding a Harley across the United States and then you look up and see that you're in your 60's looking at terminal cancer Don't waste a second of it, Live your Dreams with God by Your side 🙏
that way before i was born. my mom had the whole collection of old CDs and she use to play for us to listen to all the time on that trip to California and to Los Vegas also.
We need a comeback of oldies.... Real music that stirs the soul. Real musicians, beautiful words and feeling in their deliverance. Today is lacking, and I'm very grateful to be almost 56 years old and was born in the sixties when music was real. Bring back real. 😍
My thoughts exactly 💯 %,when we were blessed but never new,we cry for ourselves now selfishly for what we have lost. Really we were and are the lucky ones having such loves in our life!
The lead singer has one of the most underrated voices in history. He’s never off key, he always hits the mark, and their songs are not easy to sing. But he’s always dead bang on in everything.
This song reminds me about my wife. It was her favorite song before she lost the battling to cancer, I wish I could change the hands of time, I miss her smiles, she was always there for me and our lovely daughter, and I never miss a moment with her, life could be so unfair most times, there is some pain, I will cry in vain but won’t let you know how I will feel yes, I will miss you to the core! but some times i wonder why bad thing always happen to good people. She’s always in our hearts
This was my mam & dad's song, they used to play in college. My mam remarried and moved away, she passed away 23 years ago. He still has letters he never sent & still listens to this with tears in his eyes. If you love someone make sure they know it, life really is too short.
@@Shawney-jf6kc God help us all is right. You wouldnt hear modern young artists coming out with deep, meaningful, heartfelt music like this any more really. Thats so sad, we've lost so much in this age of rapidly advancing technology
Mike Oldfield wrote the album Tubular Bells played all 40 instruments on it and recorded it and co produced it at the age of 19. They really don't make musical geniuses like that anymore.
Beautiful music like this Puts Taylor Swift's crap to shame!! Everyone acts like she's done something so amazing. You listen to this song and it is absolutely beautiful, not the bubble gum/high school crap that is being aired today. I love the Moody Blues... This song was played in the movie "Shattered" with Tom Berringer. I already loved this song, but after seeing that movie, I love it more...
I'm 57. I loved this song when it came out simply for the music itself. It's been in the very back of my mind for a very long time. But now I have finally found true love, and the words have so much meaning now.
“Has it ever struck you that life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quick you hardly catch it going?”― Tennessee Williams
I was in my early 20s and living in England when this was released. Still one of the great songs from that classic era. As good today as it was then. Along with 'A whiter shade of pale' by Procol Harum. Nice to see a younger generation discovering these songs which bring back so many memories for my generation.
This song is better than shade of pale but the keys r nice2pale that's only thing words here blow pale ways away just my opinion best of health no matter the differences we all may encounter upon !
THIS IS ME AND MY WIFE'S SONG WE MADE 5 BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN WHILE THIS SONG PLAYED IN THE BACKGROUND THOE SHE HAS SINCE PASSED AWAY IN 2013 AFTER 32 YEARS TOGETHER I WILL ALWAYS STAY TRUE TO HER KNOWING ILL SEE HER AGAIN UNTIL THEN RIP CATHY LOVE YOU ALWAYS EDDIE
Nights in white satin Never reaching the end Letters I've written Never meaning to send Beauty I'd always missed With these eyes before Just what the truth is I can't say anymore 'Cause I love you Yes, I love you Oh, how I love you Gazing at people Some hand in hand Just what I'm going through They can't understand Some try to tell me Thoughts they cannot defend Just what you want to be You will be in the end And I love you Yes, I love you Oh, how I love you Oh, how I love you Nights in white satin Never reaching the end Letters I've written Never meaning to send Beauty I've always missed With these eyes before Just what the truth is I can't say anymore 'Cause I love you Yes, I love you Oh, how I love you Oh, how I love you 'Cause I love you Yes, I love you Oh, how I love you Oh, how I love you
I used to listen to this when I was 18 thinking about my first love! 😭 I look back & laugh at my dramatic ness but he was the first guy to crack my heart open & I loved him deeply
im not from this generation period when this song was released... but i love it, my mum showed me this when i was a kid.,.. to this day i still tear up and smile when i hear it. its now a dedication to my mother who passed away 2006, this is her song from me.
Always made me think( how sad it was never knowing I am in this way of life, talk about SHOCK WELL DAM STRAIGHT IM MIND BLOWN TOTALLY& NOT ONE WILL TELL ME ANYTHING WHY WHY????
Music from the 60's always felt like someone reaching in my body and grabbing my soul. It relaxes me so much, that it feels like I'm floating. And I'm not from this decade, I was born in 1980. But, grew up listening to music from the 60's & 70's.
You have great taste....I was there and it was exciting , new , overwhelmingly wonderful , a great time to be alive and everyone was into music...everyone xxx
I was in high school when this song was released. Quite a few of my classmates were big fans of The Moody Blues. Some years later I saw them in concert. But since then this song hardly comes on the radio. I listen to an oldies station which once played this song so often, now it doesn't come on at all. Two days ago I was in a store which plays 50s, 60s, 70s tunes. This song was playing when I entered, and I recognized it right away. Within seconds I was nearly fighting back tears. Some reading this may agree, others disagree. But music today can't compare to works of art and genius from my youth. What a shame, children growing up today will never know really good, sensual, emotional, profoud music like this. They will never know what it was like sitting in a park, riding the bus or going to the beach and hearing great songs like "Nights in White Satin".
Cannot agree more! Today music is such a rubbish. So glad my parents listened to this kind of music and passed it on. Greetings from a 35-years old woman from Zagreb, Croatia.
Quelle envoûtante chanson d'amour que j'ai découverte en... 1975, et cette orchestration si belle et mélodieuse, un peu sixties dirons certains, c'est la tout son charme aujourd'hui encore.
This song and unchained Melody are the two greatest love songs in history. As a true romantic and warrior poet I morn the los of such great music and the passing of the generation that created it.
Never heard this song till now. This hits different 🔥 I’m young but appreciation for good music has no age or generation. It’s what makes these songs truly timeless classics ❤️
Ah man, there's a lot out there that you will really feel... white rabbit is another good one, tons around this era. Zeppelin, Stones, Curtis Mayfield, Al Green. It goes on
In 1969 when this song came out I was in the 3rd grade , my music teacher would play this record with the words on the overhead projector and we would sing along ! I think of that everytime I hear this song ! Loved it then as much as I do today ! At the age of 58 ...
After years of heartache and pain I have finally found my soul mate. I never thought I could of found love like this. This song is as deep as the love I feel for him ❤ Absolutely beautiful ❤
When I heard this song many many yrs ago in my teens my step dad put it on in the car and said wait till you hear this song..I said what the hell are you listening to that's not music ...as I got older I'll eat my words this is what you call music they don't make music like this anymore. ..powerful music....
I am totally addicted to the orchestrated ending. I keep running it back many times. The whole song is truly touching though. Brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it.
Im listening to this song now and the other day, my mother told me she gave birth to me listening to this song playing in the background at the hospital. I feel like it was in a way destined to be this song out of any other. It just touches my soul.
I was a young pre-teen when this came out. Still my favorite love song of all time. I wooed my wife of 38 years with this song back in 1979. Simply the best and most beautiful song ever.
Yes, granted that if it wasn't for Dark Shadows I probably would have NEVER actually heard this song in it's entirety. I actually didn't know how haunting it is, and how much of it I can definitely relate to. I don't for one minute think that this is a kind of love song that is meant for a happily ever after. Instead I think it about knowing what real, true, honest, soul-mate kind of love is, and not having that love, for one reason or another. That my friends is a fate worse then death, and when I hear this song, it is exactly what I feel. All those times I wrote letters that aren't meant to be sent, but meant to be a sort of comfort that maybe they will realize these things without it. And when you see people in their happiness, they don't have a clue what that torture is. I may not be a child of the 60's, but I am not a modern robot void of emotion and truth.....
I've loved this song since I was young. My parents raised me on oldies stations and classical music. Something about this song always moves me so deeply, I cry without fail every time I hear it. My first love, and my first long term relationship, I told him I wanted this to be our song, and he agreed. He sadly showed me he was undeserving of such pure beauty, so hopefully someday I'll meet someone truly worthy of sharing this song with. As others have said, I love this song so much I want it played at my funeral. It's a truly timeless masterpiece.
I must have been 8 or 9 in 1988. My uncles would bump this already classic song by then. Listening to it in 2019 just days after I turned 40, I am glad my uncles had awesome taste in music.
What an awesome song after all these years, I just turned 70 and this song is priceless, so well done, the lyrics and the instrumental part, you rock Moody Blues!!

How beautiful your mom must of been to play this for you as a child. One of my most favorites.

She's smiling down on u everytime u listen to this.. God bless.. this life is so uncertain but this song captures it just for a sec at least
God Bless you and your Mum
Love music

Nights in white satin
Never reaching the end
Letters I've written
Never meaning to send
Beauty I'd always missed
With these eyes before
Just what the truth is
I can't say anymore
'Cause I love you
Yes, I love you
Oh, how I love you
Gazing at people
Some hand in hand
Just what I'm going through
They can't understand
Some try to tell me
Thoughts they cannot defend
Just what you want to be
You will be in the end
And I love you
Yes, I love you
Oh, how I love you
Oh, how I love you
Nights in white satin
Never reaching the end
Letters I've written
Never meaning to send

Music from the 60's always felt like someone reaching in my body and grabbing my soul. It relaxes me so much, that it feels like I'm floating. And I'm not from this decade, I was born in 1980. But, grew up listening to music from the 60's & 70's.
👍
You have great taste....I was there and it was exciting , new , overwhelmingly wonderful , a great time to be alive and everyone was into music...everyone xxx
Same. Everything in those decades shaped the era we rocked and rolled our butts to in the 80s and 90s.

I think your exactly right about this song. I'm 42 and still trying to find anything at all remotely close to this.
