Just getting caught up and I can't believe you're back in Japan. One of my favourite countries when it comes to the sights, the technology, and just the small quality of life things you can't get anywhere else. Japan is just built different.

We're constantly bombarded with how polite society is supposed to be in Japan, I was genuinely taken a back by how rude those guys were!
Interesting as I always hear how rude they can be to foreigners! But mean people are everywhere lol

Maybe it’s because what I heard recently foreigners have been so bad in Japan they being so bad in Tokyo doing law breaking that they gonna be weary of anyone visiting outside of Japan
Tom is experiencing just a little bit of what it’s like being a foreigner in Japan, Japan is for the Japanese, they only tolerate Gaijjn’s for the tourism, going to Japan with zero basic language is a bit naive but makes for a funny vlog 😂

Something I've been told before is in Japan (Nihon) that eating while outside is somewhat frowned upon unless your in a very foody place like a food markart or drinking next to a vending machine, but while out and about walking is no so good.

Another Japan travel tip, everyone in Japan is super friendly! They appreciate it a lot when you use their language even if its just a few words, walking into the ramen shop and greeting with konnichiwa would have made all the difference, arrigato gozaimasu (thank you) helps also. Its as like someone coming to the UK and asking if you were closed in a foreign language we would also not act in the nicest way
Mmm, so if someone came into a restaurant in the UK and spoke a foreign language, the restaurant owner would tell them to "get out" in their own language lol 🤔
@@davidholgate123 Japan can be extremely xenophobic its been WAY better as of late with the acceptance of foreigners, but recently Japan has been also dealing with a crap ton of influencers usually western english speaking ones that are causing major disturbances giving rise back to those xenophobic tendencies and also in tokyo a decent portion of the population understands and speaks some amount of english so hearing that guy tell them to get out in english is not that surprising all things considered if he noticed Tom was vlogging
VERY true. Just knowing the basics (Hello, thank you, good morning) in japannese will get you VERY far in japan. Pretty much all the shop owners and locals will love you and be glad to serve you as long as you've at least demonstrated you are making an effort, rather than just walking in and exclaiming "Hello!". I can attest to this as a white foreigner, just did a 2 week trip to Tokyo, had nothing but pleasent interactions because I would constantly bow to everyone and open up with Konichiwa

one thing to note tom, lots of businesses are being (nervous) of camera's/youtubers etc and tourists after quite a few bad eggs recently and also best to be careful of people trying to get you into businesses to scam you. also if you get turned away its also possible it less likely anger and more scared because they don't speak English and don't want to have the awkward situation of having to deal with non Japanese speaking tourists.
I just went to Japan in October, what a amazing country. I'm sure you guys will have your time of your lives there.

My first plane journey was also to Japan, with a change over in russia. So second flight boarded, also to japan! Some how went most of my life never needing to fly.

My mate has just moved to Osaka Japan and has only had the loveliest interactions from locals. They have been gushing over how nice and helpful and patient everyone is so it was really surprising to see the interactions in Tokyo be so different!
Alfie is having a trip of a lifetime and I love how the plane companies treated Alfie that is top tier right there!!!

Been to japan 3 times an ive never experianced that, my last trip me an my gf had beers bought for us at the motogp by a japanese man welcoming us to japan. Also ninjawifi came in clutch it was the first time id bought portable wifi there, we went partying in osaka with locals an loved it too
Not sure if its still a thing in Japan but there are restaurants that are for locals only and dont serve foreign people. As i recal there is usually some sort of sighn on the window or door.
Oh good god. I studied for 5 months before going to Japan, to avoid being a gaijin. I love you Tom but walking into a ramen bar and shouting hello makes my blood boil 😂 I was sweating watching this!!! And then eating on the street and expecting bins Agghhhhjjhh
I’m sure Bea has helped you out by now and I can see people saying the same thing in the comments that learning little Japanese phrases will really help. Those people were very rude, though what probably didn’t help was the time of night and having a baby with you as many places aren’t child friendly. The places you tried are probably more for drunk salarymen.
Btw, you have to try coco ichiban. It’s a chain restaurant but it does the best curry. I used to live in Osaka and I think I ate there once a week haha.

I called it. I knew your next destination was going to be Japan. When you first said hot and cold place. Then you said it’s 10hours to your next destination and I looked at the flight time from Dubai/japan 9hr55min 🤷♂️🤷♂️. Yes yes yes I can’t wait for the Japan vlogs
Me & my partner are disabled but looking to visit Tokyo in the next few years, I’m doing research into their accessibility and it’s better than a lot of places but still not great, I’m hoping we can make it work because it will be the holiday of a life time & our first adventure together!!

Yeah, it’s weird Tom. Flights out of DXB towards the far east in my experience are usually relegated to smaller planes. That was my experience going to Vietnam. The Airbus seems to only operate between DXB and the West (for the UK, GTW, HRW, MAN). Go figure

I went to the quality inn in Gatlinburg Tennessee the one across the road from a mountain coaster and it had European plug sockets in every room.

A number 1 of few rules in Japan is to look up time Schedule that way you can get food and to not get kicked out of places with a misunderstanding

Just a thought, when i travel, i buy e-sim packages for the country i go to. It’s often a lot cheaper and far more data available
That was a blessing 777 you went to Tokyo on, and yeah the engines are HUGE! The Boeing 737 (think of the Ryanair plane you went away in for your 30th) fuselage can fit through the outer diameter of the 777 engine. Mental
11:30 Tom its kind of actually a supra, some people call it the Supra Sedan, but it is a Toyota, it has the same engine as the old Supras :)

Yeah you will learn that not all Japanese people are polite as expected especially towards foreigners. But make the most of it and be brave! Don’t waste your time at convenience stores. Anyways welcome to Japan and hope you have a blast! Btw try to finish all the food. It’s considered rude to leave some behind especially at small restaurants. Tom has a track record of taking a bite and leaving the rest if he doesn’t like it.

Wow I’m so happy you guys are in Japan!! I’ve been in Japan for 6 weeks and sadly going back to the UK next week. Going to be in Tokyo again for a few days before the flight though which I’m so excited for! Have a great trip!!

Tom, just for future reference. When I visited Japan last year in November I bought an ESIM prior to arriving, you get way more data for a lot cheaper and don’t need to carry the wifi router and keep it charged all the time!
