Decent price? I’d say 40$ for 600 pcs on 2023 is a miracle! Maybe it’s just me but the price was a huge draw for me personally

I’d say volume of stuff wise it’s not as strong as the price per piece would suggest, but $40 is still very good

      $1 in 2000 is a $1.75 today. So our $40 was $23. For 600 pcs

I think this is the best set in the new Indiana Jones line. Best value, mostly an improvement from the original version, a figure of a major character that never got made for the original theme.

This set looks really good on paper in terms of price-per-piece ratio and number of minifigures included. Like you said, it's probably a better display set than playset, and the section sticking out from the back does add to the perception of depth. A good set to pick up even if just for the minifigures.

The bucket handle pieces on the Ark Of The Covenant look a little simple, but I can't think of a better way to represent those angel statues either.
It would've been cool if it could open up, but there isn't really anything they could reasonably fit in there without making it too oversized.

    • @tyleranderson5183

      I agree.
And adding a light brick (in the upper wall) to make the ark glow would have been awesome.
I hope if this theme continues, Lego revisits this scene for an 18+ edition, where they can apply all these improvements.
And hopefully they remake the idol set into an affordable playset!

They missed a huge opportunity to make a 2x4 crate piece to be the body of the Ark. a lot of sets get new piece designs. how hard would it have been to have made a chest (that could be used in countless themes sets).
overall I love the set. my only nitpick is the Ark and the technic liftarms on the sides. they should have been covered so they couldn't be seen from the front view, or at least made those tan.
I agree that the statues use modern pieces, but are similar to very old designs in many ways.
    excellent review as always

"Snakes... Why did it have to be snakes?"
    Good review, Jang!
Everything about this whole set itself is decent, but the thing that makes people say it's amazing is the lower-than-expected price.
The price often taints people's view of a Lego set overall - sometimes it is the difference between a great set and an okay set, or even a "bad" set in more rare cases.

I agree that the sticker on the back should have included a couple more mummies for the look. In general, I think this set is pretty perfect besides that and a couple little accessibility problems (it would have been nice if a plate had connected the spot where you go through the wall and then through the back extension). For $40, it feels physically huge. It's space very well used.

I didn't really grow up with Raiders of the Lost Ark, but that won't stop me going for this in the future; it's definitely a bit overhyped from others but that was probably due to lack of context. I think this is so well received due to it being so relatively well priced for what's loosely a diorama set, which probably would've doubled the price of this if this was made as a diorama type "collector's" set.
I'm not in a rush to get this due to IRL priorities but I wouldn't feel too uncomfortable going for it and the Fighter Plane Chase set though as they're decently priced to begin with.

I used to have many of those old Johnny Thunder sets when I was a kid back in the late 90's. They looked way better than this, both in terms of display and action features, in my opinion. This set takes a lot of space and pieces to deliver very little, I mean, this is just a stretch of a tomb or a temple, it doesn't look as whole as the old sets did.

Price is OK but can't help the fact there's no real representation of the interior of the temple to be a bit disappointing...It doesn't have to be something extravegent, just something simple with a suggestion of an interior space maybe with the mummy, some hyroglyphs, a hidden chest, a spiderweb, literally any details just to give a sense of space, the weird box thing with nothing but a mummy drop down function and then the rest being technic mechanisms is kinda weird and doesn't really add anything...
