      Zoe Hong I really love to watching you illustrating, and really love to see your experience when you're taking about something and that's makes me focus and understand you more. So, for me I prefer to do it separately to be more focusing with what you doing or saying. Thanks a lot for all your videos, they are very useful for me 😊

    Its been a month now I'm watching your videos. i know you received a lot of appreciation, so i won't bother to mention it again but this video enlighten me to decide carefully, i just recently applied for BTEC fashion and clothing at the college here in Birmingham ( vocational course in Uk). and i do think i made the right decision instead of going into a foundation degree to a university because its more cheaper and it will give me enough time to build my skills and knowledge in my preparing my portfolio. Thank You Zoe, you are a star!

    Loved this video! I live in Australia and am currently going to uni for engineering (i just really love watching your videos i find them soothing, also i want to try designing and making my own clothes and doing some drawing). At my school we have this program called access and inclusion that helps students with any kind of disability from mental to physical :) we also have a doctor's office on campus with psychologists there too. I use them and they're so helpful. I didn't realise this wasn't a common thing until you mentioned it i thought all schools had it.

    • @zoehongteaches
      @zoehongteaches  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know a lot about specific ones. Many competitions require you to be sponsored through your school program. Cash prizes are definitely nice. They're nice to put on your resume, especially in the beginning when you don't have a lot of work experience. Can you be successful without them? Yes. Does winning competitions mean you're guaranteed a job? Unless that is literally the prize, no, there's no guarantee.

    Whats your Opinion about private fashion schools? I'm not really sure about America but here in Germany we have a lot more private Schools that teach fashion (you still get a Bachlor of Arts in the end) and in general they seem so much better equiped and like they can teach you so much more than state schools. But I'm not sure if going to a private school could be a disadvantage later in life when your trying to find a job?

    • @zoehongteaches
      @zoehongteaches  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      When people look at your resume in the US, I really don't think people think about public vs private schools. Most people don't even know which ones are public and which ones are private. Each school has a reputation of their own. I don't hear a lot of "oh, she went to a public school" when it comes to fashion schools. It's a school by school scenario. I went to a private school. Another thing, I know private and public school mean opposite things US vs UK. I don't know which version Germans use.

    Hi zoey. I am at a point in my life where i need to start thinking about what schools to apply to so i appreciate it that you posted a video like this. If you have the time could you answer this question i have: You mentioned LA as being not one of the big four places but still a central place, would you consider miami to be one? (I live in florida and there are very few schools here and the ones that exist are in miami)

    Hi @Zoehong you've probably answered this but... I've been debating school for a while I keep enrolling and dropping out, mainly bevause the only schools in my area are traditional schools not art schools and other things, blah blah. My question is how do you feel about the difference between learning fashion at a art school compared to a traditional school? I know you went to art school and you don't like to speak on things you don't know, but may be you can help me out.

    i am going to do a fashion design course in a school, but i am very scared i chose the wrong school, and i am worried i am not prepared enough to enter into the course, as i still can't illustrate or even do certain seams, and fabric is another thing i am still ensure of. I regret nt going to a fashion college and doing courses for a couple hundred pounds, instead of spending 22,000 per year at school on student loans.

    Hi Zoe
    This year i will graduate from my Science Economy Highschool and I decided that i should be going to a fashion school cause i love and have so much passion for it so I figured to study Fashion Desigb at Lasalle College here in Morocco to get my bachelor's degree and then i will go study abroad in the same school (Paris or Rome or Canada ) as it's available in many countries
    If you have any feedback on this school please let me know
    What do you think?
    Greetings
    Khalil

    Hi Zoe! I love your videos and i have to ask you: do you think i can become a fashion designer without knowing how to draw? I am really into fashion and I have a lot of ideas but i can’t put them on paper. I tried following your drawing videos and some others’ but no results.

    • @zoehongteaches
      @zoehongteaches  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      >>do you think i can become a fashion designer without knowing how to draw?
      No, but you do NOT have to be the most amazing drawer ever. If you want an industry job, you need to be able to communicate your ideas and you absolutely need to learn how to draw flats in Adobe Illustrator. If you want to start your own company, I guess you could get away with not drawing but remember: for every skill you don't have, you have to hire someone to do it. Do you have the money for that? Have you tried sketching using templates?

    • @negrusebastian4056
      @negrusebastian4056 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      When it comes to money, i can't afford going to school, i will have to get a student loan, and not knowing how to draw is the only reason I think i will not be studying fashion not only because of the pressure of the portfolio and the expectations of the professors, but also the employers who might turn their backs on me if i don't show them proper and solid sketches of my ideas. And about the templates, i most certainly will be buying yours from etsy but for now i just tried some from google images and i couldn't get the proportions right. And because of my crappy drawing skills i'm thinking about buying a sewing machine and materials and start doing my thing (which might be a lot harder than taking some basic, 5th grade drawing lessons).

    Hey Zoe. I struggle with deciding if pursuing an MA degree is worth it when it comes to creative industries. My undergrad is in Studio Art/Photography but now I market study abroad programs....lol. I had considered an MA in fashion marketing/communication to aid transitioning into a different career path but do you think postgraduate work is even necessary to do so?

    • @zoehongteaches
      @zoehongteaches  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would recommend you look up jobs you want to apply for and the listings will tell you the level of education required, as well as other prerequisites. Even if the listings are expired (but still pretty recent!), you can find the info you need. If you find that practically every job you're interested in requires a degree, I would look into that.

      Brandin Foster for me as a fashion designer who graduated from a fine and applied arts, major of fashion.. I ended up as a fashion designer and doing nothing with arts (drawing, painting or any kind of arts that don't related to fashion). I did study all kind of arts before I specialized in textile and fashion design, but now I consider myself as only a fashion designer. I like painting, but I have no time for it, I spend all my working time improving my skills of fashion. Maybe some day I will do some painting, but I think it will be all referred to fashion too.
